Foxy fans may want to avert their eyes. In the new movie "Alex Cross," "Lost's" Matthew Fox plays a mixed martial arts fighter/ruthless assassin who murders the wife of a Washington, D.C. detective played by Tyler Perry.
So, yeah, he's the bad guy. But what's worse is how Fox has transformed himself for the role. The always fit Fox seems to have gone to Mickey Rourke-in-"The Wrestler" extremes to model himself as an Mma fighter. In the picture above, Fox seems to be in the middle of some kind of cage match, clenching his teeth malevolently as he twists an appendage possibly out of its socket. In the back, some dame looks on -- intrigued by Fox's negative body fat and prominent veins.
"Alex Cross" is directed by "XXX's" Rob Cohen and co-stars "Breaking Bad's" Giancarlo Esposito, Jean Reno, Edward Burns and Cicely Tyson. »

Time magazine just released its annual 100 Most Influential People list, which, in addition to bigwig politicos, pop stars and sports sensations, features a fair share of actors. Among the stars dubbed "Most Influential" were Oscar nominees Viola Davis and Jessica Chastain, Oscar winner Tilda Swinton and "Homeland" star Claire Danes. The feature also included profiles on each of the honorees. Cicely Tyson, who had a small role in "The Help," wrote about Davis: "I was privileged to work on this film and humbled that Viola believes my career has been a benchmark for hers... She affords me great hope for the future." Judd Apatow raved about Wiig, whose "Bridesmaids" proved once and for all that women are funny: "I remember seeing Kristen Wiig on her first episode of 'Saturday Night Live.' I don't remember the sketch, I just remember her. She was so confident and funny right out of the gate. »

Jean Dujardin Perhaps I'm the only person on the planet who thinks that the Academy Awards ceremony should once again be held in late March or early April. I believe that would have several advantages. (Photo: Richard D. Salyer / ©A.M.P.A.S.) For instance, the Oscars would no longer be just one more awards ceremony during the frenzied awards season; instead, it would have its own slot, far apart from the "lesser" ceremonies preceding it. Just as importantly, by having the Oscars stand apart from awards-season madness, favorites could lose their momentum weeks before Oscar ballots would be due (whether by mail or via online voting) — which theoretically might mean more frequent surprises. And finally, a later date would give Academy members more time to watch, consider, rewatch, reconsider the usual 35-45 nominated movies — or any of each year's 250+ eligible movies, as an Oscar ceremony in the spring »

The Artist was also the first silent — well, apart from one line — Best Picture Oscar winner since William A. Wellman's Wings won the Best Production Academy Award (not yet known as "the Oscar") and F.W. Murnau's Sunrise was voted the Best Unique and Artistic Production in early 1929 — at the Academy Awards' first ceremony. James Stewart, Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, The Philadelphia Story George Cukor: Oscar Actors' Director Pt.1 Additionally, the "gay sensibility" nonsense ignores the fact — and that is a fact — that George Cukor was equally adept at directing male actors. Clark Gable may have gotten Cukor fired from the Gone with the Wind set, but the extensive list of Cukor-directed performers nominated for Academy Awards includes Fredric March (The Royal Family of Broadway), Basil Rathbone (Romeo and Juliet), Charles Boyer (Gaslight), James Mason (A Star Is Born), Anthony Quinn (Wild Is the Wind), and no less than three male Oscar winners: James Stewart (The Philadelphia Story), Ronald Colman (A Double Life), and Rex Harrison (My Fair Lady). Cukor also guided numerous other male stars, including Spencer Tracy (five times), Cary Grant (three times), John Barrymore (three times), Melvyn Douglas (twice), Robert Taylor (twice), Joel McCrea (twice), William Holden, David Manners, Laurence Olivier, »
