First Reaction To Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods And Kings

17 October 2014 11:52 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

I always find it a bit strange when studios pre-screen random clips from upcoming movies, but with the racially insensitive hubbub currently surrounding Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods And Kings, any talk about the actual movie could do absolutely no harm. There’s the age old saying that “there is no such thing as bad publicity,” and the worst case scenario after screening some clips only involves a few negative articles running on random entertainment sites – at least people might forget about the race card, right?

I attended the last New York City pre-screening of the Exodus: Gods And Kings footage preview, expecting nothing more than a slew of clips in the vein of Darren Aronofsky’s Noah. Everyone knows the story of Moses, Rhamses, and the ten plagues, and everyone knows actors like Sigourney Weaver and Christian Bale, so what could go wrong when there’s a budget worth millions and millions of dollars? »

Exodus: Gods and Kings Preview: Can Ridley Scott Make a Contemporary Biblical Epic?

17 October 2014 10:16 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

We at Lr had a chance to check out about 40 minutes of director Ridley Scott’s new historical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings last night. Here’s what we thought.

The series of clips shown went from massive battles to small, intimate character moments that really tried to give you a sense of the grand scale the film is trying to work on as well as the personal story it’s trying to tell beneath it. Bible stories seem to be the new avenue for filmmakers to go down these days, and though Darren Aronofsky’s Noah left a little to be desired it looks like Ridley Scott is embracing his usual overblown sword and sandals method to tell this timeless biblical tale of Moses and Ramses.

The first clip began with both Moses (Christian Bale) and Ramses (Joel Edgerton) preparing to go off to war. We’ll get to »

Christian Bale Talks "Exodus": I Had No Idea About Moses At All!

15 October 2014 3:45 PM, PDT | TooFab | See recent TooFab news »

Christian Bale had a lot of preparing to do for his latest role! The sexy star -- who plays Moses in the new Ridley Scott flick, "Exodus: Gods and Kings" -- recently opened up about playing the bible figure (via The Hollywood Reporter) at a screening and Q&A presentation of the flick at the 20th Century Fox lot in Los Angeles. "The big one for me, other than realizing I had no idea about Moses at all, was just how complex a character he was," Bale explained at the event. "The Dark Knight" star also revealed that his religious knowledge was "below Sunday school," and that he really wasn't aware of the story until he began to brush up on some literature for the part. "He was a very troubled, tumultuous man and mercurial. But the biggest surprise was the nature of God. He was equally very mercurial," he continued. »

The Big Lebowski Pinball Machine Available for Pre-Order; Check Out Images and Video

2 October 2014 7:00 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Dutch Pinball has been developing a Big Lebowski pinball machine for awhile now, and they unveiled the results in a launch party earlier this week.  There is a fine attention to detail in the design of the machine.  The pop bumpers are modeled after the bra Julianne Moore wears in the fantasy sequence.  There is a very realistic White Russian off to the side.  The rolled up rug is a barrier---as you hit it, the rug starts to unroll and unlock six different "rug modes." Hit the jump for images and video of the gameplay. Dutch Pinball released a few official images, starting with a full view of the machine:   Here's a look at the feature artwork with Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi, John Goodman, Sam Elliott, and John Turturro.   This White Russian is actually painted on, but rendered to look 3D to the player.  A very cool detail. »

20th Century Fox Releases Epic New Exodus: Gods And Kings Trailer

1 October 2014 11:50 AM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

20th Century Fox has unveiled a new trailer for director Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated film, Exodus: Gods And Kings. The movie stars Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Aaron Paul, John Turturro, Sigourney Weaver, Ben Mendelsohn and Ben Kingsley.

This is a film that requires an IMAX viewing and one that would have been presented in Cinemascope years ago. The scale of it looks like Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments and going by the visuals from this new trailer, Scott has mastered Epic as an artform.

20th Century Fox previewed parts of the film for the media on Tuesday. Variety’s Awards Editor Tim Gray writes the film falls into the,

“they don’t make ‘em like that anymore” category, with big battle scenes and aerial panoramas of ancient cities, rustic settlements and military camps, all rendered in 3D CGI glory. And the footage really shifted into high gear »

Christian Bale is Moses in ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ trailer

1 October 2014 8:23 AM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Moses is the hero Egypt deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So says the lord.

I might be getting some movies confused there, but regardless, Christian Bale is back in action hero form in the trailer for Ridley Scott’s latest swords and sandals epic Exodus: Gods and Kings, a retelling of the Biblical story of Moses (Bale) and his exodus from Ancient Egypt under the rule of Rhamses (Joel Edgerton). Exodus is one of several Christian stories to hit the big screen this year, including Son of God, but it’s also finding Scott back in top form, away from the turgid and surreal drama of The Counselor and back to the period genre that won him an Oscar for Gladiator. Exodus also stars Sigourney Weaver, Ben Kingsley, John Turturro and Aaron Paul, and it’s set for a December 12 release date nationwide. Watch the fairly lengthy trailer, »

Exodus: Gods And Kings Preview; 30 Minutes of Footage Reveals Epic Scope

1 October 2014 8:09 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Last night I drove down to Fox to attend a special preview of footage from director Ridley Scott's upcoming biblical epic, Exodus: Gods and Kings.  While I can't really offer any opinions on the film since what we saw was both incomplete and a relatively small snippet (around 30 minutes) of the overall experience, I will say that this film looks massive and that they got an impressive amount of ground covered in their relatively brief (for a movie of this scale) 72 day production.  The trailer that hit this morning covers some of this ground, but there's a lot more that you're not seeing. Scott's epic stars Christian Bale - who was there to answer a few questions - as Moses and Joel Edgerton as Rhamses.  Hit the jump to check out our Exodus: Gods and Kings footage preview.  The film also stars Ben KingsleyAaron PaulJohn Turturro, and Sigourney Weaver. »

Brother vs. brother in new battle-heavy Exodus: Gods and Kings trailer

1 October 2014 8:06 AM, PDT | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

Moses gets a 21st century makeover in Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings.

Based on the Biblical story of Moses (Christian Bale) and Rhamses (Joel Edgerton), a pair of men raised as brothers, one born of privilege, the other adopted into the royal family when the Pharaoh decreed that all male Hebrew children be put to death.    Moses’ destiny was kept hidden from him until Nun (Ben Kingsley) tells of the prophecy naming him as the savior of the people, setting Moses and Rhamses into head-to-head battle over their beliefs.

Scott’s epic pays homage to the Biblical epics of the 1940s and 1950s while simultaneously romanticizing and modernizing the source material to better reflect technology and what audience-goers expect.  We’ve still got our burning bushes, and the plagues of Egypt, but thanks to CGI effects, the sheer scale of the film goes beyond the soundstages of the »

Watch: New Official Trailer for Ridley Scott's 'Exodus: Gods and Kings'

Fox has released the first full trailer for Ridley Scott's epic Exodus: Gods and Kings starring Christian Bale as Moses and Joel Edgerton as the Egyptian pharaoh Ramses. It's definitely going for the glossy, "this isn't your father's biblical epic" vibe complete with gold skirts, eyeliner, CGI and more eyeliner. The film has already taken a large amount of heat for the lack of diversity among its principal cast members, which also includes Aaron Paul as Joshua, the leader of the Israelite tribes, Ben Kingsley as Nun the scholar and John Turturro and Sigourney Weaver as Ramses' parents, Seti and Tuya. That scrutiny is likely to follow the film all the way to its December 12 release, but this one looks like it can be just as easily judged for its ethnic makeup as it can its literal makeup and just how stylized and over the top it appears. Charlton Heston’s Moses or Bale’s?
