Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are 'Bourne' again. Are they Hollywood's top actor/director pair?

18 hours ago | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

In a development that feels more inevitable than surprising, Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are in talks to get back into the Bourne business. The two had sent mixed messages over the years, ever since Jason Bourne disappeared in the murky East River at the end of The Bourne Ultimatum in 2007, with the major roadblock being Damon’s insistence that a reluctant Greenglass direct, while Universal handed the franchise over to writer-turned-director Tony Gilroy. But with Gilroy’s Bourne Legacy, starring Jeremy Renner, failing to live up to the original three Bourne films at the box office, and Damon’s recent non-Bourne projects, »

Behind the scenes of Exodus with Christian Bale, Ridley Scott's Moses

4 September 2014 12:03 PM, PDT | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings has at least one sure thing going for it: Christian Bale. If you’re a little uncertain about Biblical adaptations or Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby, Zero Dark Thirty) as an Egyptian pharaoh, you know you can still trust in The Batman.

Bale leads an all-star cast -- Edgerton, “Breaking Bad”’s Aaron PaulSigourney Weaver (reuniting with Ridley for an Alien reunion), Ben Kingsley, and John Turturro. Featuring thousands of extras, Scott’s reimagining of the story of Moses is an ambitious project with a budget to match. It’s Ridley’s most expensive film yet – and he madePrometheus.

Interested in weird movie trivia? Well, Val Kilmer, who also played Batman, previously starred in The Prince of Egypt as Moses, and Exodus’ Ben Kingsley also played the titular character in 1995’s Moses!

Now it’s Bale’s turn.

Watch: New Featurette For Ridley Scott's 'Exodus: Gods And Kings' Starring Christian Bale & Joel Edgerton

4 September 2014 7:40 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Of all the big movies coming our way this fall, the one that looks the most potentially dicey is "Exodus: Gods And Kings," Ridley Scott's grand-scale retelling of the story of Moses. In theory, the idea of the director of "Gladiator" working with his biggest-ever budget for the first live-action take on the tale in fifty years should be an enticing one, especially with a cast including Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Aaron Paul, Sigourney Weaver, John Turturro, Ben Mendelsohn and Ben Kingsley. But footage has underwhelmed so far, and the film's been (correctly) beset by the decision to cast mostly caucasian actors in Middle Eastern roles, including Edgerton done up in make-up that we can only describe as Clementine Face (the Australian actor has expressed sympathy with the outcry, saying in a recent interview, "I do understand and empathize with that position," presumably while simultaneously trying to wash fake »

Exclusive Interview With Matthew Kowalchuk And Daniel Arnold On Lawrence & Holloman

1 September 2014 7:11 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Lawrence & Holloman is one of those movies you either love or you hate. Based on a stage play from Morris Panych, it tells the story of two very opposite men – successful and sunny suit salesman Lawrence and dour, depressed clerk Holloman – who become friends and, later, foes.

It was a bold move for a first-time feature director, Vancouver’s Matthew Kowalchuk, and Daniel Arnold, who plays Holloman, to attempt to take the text to a different medium. The play is challenging and darkly funny, and its transition from a two-person show to the big screen was full of challenges and changes.

Last week, I sat down for an exclusive interview with Arnold and Kowalchuk, who discussed why their film is like Barton Fink, the biggest changes from stage to screen and when it is ok for a dark comedy to cross the line.

Check it out below and enjoy!

Wamg Interview: John Turturro – Writer, Director, and Star of Fading Gigolo

20 August 2014 5:19 PM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Interview conducted by Tom Stockman August 14th, 2014

Despite his appearance and the roles you’ve often seen him in before, it turns out that actor John Turturro is one sexy stud! In Fading Gigolo he’s nothing like the nervous genius he played in Quiz Show, or the angry hothead from Do The Right Thing, or that weasel Bernie Bernbaum he played in Miller’S Crossing. No, in Fading Gigolo, which Turturro wrote, directed, and starred in, he played Fioravante, an honest-to-goodness gigolo whose eagerly-paying clientele include Sofia Vergara and Sharon Stone! With Woody Allen as Murray, his unlikely pimp, Fading Gigolo sounds like the most oddball vanity project project to come down the pike in decades. But Fading Gigolo was a funny, gentle, and surprisingly sensitive comedy with a witty script, amusing characters and a jazzy sense of life in New York that felt like an old-fashioned Woody Allen movie, »

John Turturro Wants A Big Lebowski Spinoff And Barton Fink Sequel

19 August 2014 8:44 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

As many have remarked over the past few years, we are now in a time of sequels, spinoffs, and reboots. Every major or minor character from every major or minor film seems to be getting their own movie right now. This makes it unsurprising that actor John Turturro is still angling for a spinoff film for his character from The Big Lebowski, as well as a sequel to Barton Fink.

Turturro recently talked with The Playlist (via /Film) about the possibilities for a Big Lebowski spinoff featuring his secondary but memorable character Jesus Quintana. Here’s what he said about that:

You know, [the Jesus Quintana film] it’s something that I would love to do and if I’m able to do it I would talk about it, but it’s something I would love to do that’s all I can say. I don’t want to jeopardize anything. You’ll hear about it if I know. »

Fading Gigolo | Blu-ray Review

19 August 2014 7:00 AM, PDT | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

After making a substantial profit at the box office during its Spring 2014 release (via Millennium Ent.), the mild media fury surrounding the continuing Mia Farrow/Woody Allen saga was still in popular parlance, which many assumed might hurt ticket sales. Apparently this wasn’t the case and critics and audiences seemed to embrace a chance to see Allen in front of the camera in a lightly entertaining role. Repeated viewings may crumble Fading Gigolo‘s mild comedic offerings, but its warm theatrical response should ensure a healthy shelf life.

John Turturro’s latest directorial effort was helped by the sizeable presence of co-star Woody Allen. But beyond drama from the gossip rags, Turturro’s got a perversely curious concept on his hands by casting himself as a reluctant gigolo with Allen starring as his affable pimp. That said, this central concept kinda sorta fizzles out as the film becomes a »

Interview: John Turturro Talks Making 'Fading Gigolo,' 'Big Lebowski' Spinoff, 'Exodus' And More

18 August 2014 9:05 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

It wouldn't be a mistake to call John Turturro one of the finest character actors currently working. But he's also an accomplished writer/director with four very different features under his belt, from his debut family drama "Mac" to the period theatre tale "Illuminata" and two music driven efforts, "Romance & Cigarettes" and "Passione." And for his latest turn behind (and in front of) the camera, he shifts gears again with "Fading Gigolo." Featuring Woody Allen taking a rare screen acting role opposite Turturro in a project that isn't one of his own films, the movie is presented within the framework of a sex comedy but with much more happening underneath. While 'Fading Gigolo' tells the story of florist Fioravante who is convinced by his friend to sell his more carnal talents to earn some big cash.
