Why Emma Watson Chose Beauty and the Beast Over Cinderella

12 hours ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Disney has been making an absolute killing with their live-action adaptations of animated classics in recent years. This year, they have easily one of the most highly-anticipated movies of the year with the live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, which will feature Harry Potter star Emma Watson as Belle. As it turns out, this wasn't the first time the studio tried to get her to play a classic Disney Princess.

In a recent interview with Total Film, Emma Watson revealed that she turned down the role of Cinderella in Disney's 2015 adaptation. She also revealed that she wasn't holding out to play Belle, because at the time, she had no idea Beauty and the Beast was even happening. Here is what she had to say about it.

"I didn't know they were going to make Beauty and the Beast at the time I turned down Cinderella. But when they offered me Belle, »

Amazon’s ‘Bosch’ Gets a New Showrunner in Daniel Pyne, Adds John Mankiewicz as Ep

15 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Just as nature abhors a vacuum, so too does a show abhor a showrunner vacancy. With “Bosch” topper Eric Overmyer decamping to head “The Man in the High Castle,” executive producer Daniel Pyne will be the new showrunner for “Bosch.”

To assist, “House of Cards” executive producer — and frequent Pyne collaborator — John Mankiewicz will be joining “Bosch” as an exec producer. Overmyer remains an exec producer on the series.

Among Pyne’s film credits are “The Manchurian Candidate” and “The Sum of All Fears.” He made his directorial debut with the indie cult film “Where’s Marlowe?”, which he co-wrote with Mankiewicz. Together, they also created and produced “The Street,” a syndicated police procedural starring Stanley Tucci, and “The Marshal.” Pyne’s television work includes “Alcatraz” and “Miami Vice,” on which he and Mankiewicz first worked together.

Mankiewicz has served as an exec producer on “House of Cards” for the last four seasons. His »

Emma Watson turned down Disney’s Cinderella before joining Beauty and the Beast

20 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

This March, Emma Watson is set to bring Belle to life as the star of Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, but the actress has revealed to Total Film that this isn’t the first Disney Princess she’s had the opportunity to play, having turned down the title role in 2015’s Cinderella.

“I didn’t know they were going to make Beauty and the Beast at the time I turned down Cinderella,” said Watson. “But when they offered me Belle, I just felt the character resonated with me so much more than Cinderella did. She remains curious, compassionate and open-minded. And that’s the kind of woman I would want to embody as a role model, given the choice. In a strange way, [Belle] challenges the status quo of the place she lives in, and I found that really inspiring. And also, she manages to keep her »

Beauty & The Beast: Emma Watson Talks Up Her Love Of Belle, Plus New International Poster

13 January 2017 4:04 PM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

You can say a lot of things about Disney, but you can’t say the studio doesn’t know how to exploit the hell out of nostalgia. As the producer of many of film’s greatest animated classics, they’ve shaped many of our childhoods, and as a result, have also shaped many of our futures.

In a trend that’s been nearly impossible to ignore, they’ve been remaking some of these classics into big budget live-action productions. Thus far, the result has been mostly positive, with only such films as Maleficent and Alice in Wonderland muddying up the waters (though to be fair, one is a re-imagining, and the other is a sequel, so…). The next movie on the slate to get remade is none other than the 1991 Best Picture nominee Beauty and the Beast.
