If two recently released art pieces for the Guillermo Del Toro-produced Book of Life are any indication, the upcoming film should be a vivid visual experience. In a new interview with the Hollywood Reporter, co-writer/director Jorge Gutierrez offers two stunning concept images (featuring kaleidoscopic city streets and ornate skies) for the upcoming Fox Animation film (see one above), while also discussing his vision for the project's bold look.

"It's a sad indictment of The Fifth Estate that it proves most convincing when its central figure breaks the fourth wall"
EOne, Blu-ray & DVD
Movies about technology are always at least five years out of date, so it's only fitting that it's taken that long for The Fifth Estate – Bill Condon's occasionally diverting WikiLeaks romp, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as comedian Bill Hader's Saturday Night Live impersonation of Julian Assange – to reach the big screen. With half a decade's worth of hindsight, the film effortlessly comes down on the right side of history (pro-WikiLeaks, anti-Assange, in case you were wondering) but finds more of a challenge in crafting a satisfying cinematic experience around a story that took place mainly online. Still, Condon isn't afraid to give it the old college try.
In a series of outlandish fantasy sequences, he depicts Assange and his fellow leaker Daniel Domscheit-Berg »

Former mixed martial arts fighter Gina Carano spent years beating up her opponents in the ring before finally becoming a bona fide action star in Steven Soderbergh’s 2011 thriller Haywire. The groundwork had been perfectly laid out; her looks, femininity, and physicality along with a built in fanbase made her an attractive candidate for action movies. Haywire was a critical and mild commercial success, but mostly functioned as a (very successful) platform for introducing the world to Gina Carano, action star.
What happens though when Carano is expected to carry the load of a film that doesn’t have the benefit of being directed by someone as gifted as Steven Soderbergh? That’s the question of the day as the first trailer for In the Blood has been released and it’s hard to not be more than a little underwhelmed.
We get to see Carano running around some unnamed »

★☆☆☆☆The somewhat mixed response to Robert Rodriguez's 2010 spoof trailer turned feature, Machete, was an indication that audiences were tiring of seeing him draw from his overused bag of visual tricks to deliver yet another cartoonish, Latino-flavoured actioner. His retort? Machete Kills (2013) - a sequel which not only wastes the talents of an interesting ensemble, but also amplifies everything which was wrong with the cynical and egregiously self-indulgent original. This time around, hulking ex-federale Machete Cortez (Danny Trejo) is offered American citizenship and a clean state by the Us Prez (Charlie Sheen).

New trailer time. One of the best female action stars to grace our screens over the past few years is former Mma star Gina Carano and here she is in one of her first lead roles of her career. In The Blood is being billed as the female Taken, and when you read the official synopsis below, you’ll see why. Love Gina Carano, and love the fact that she’s turning into the Cynthia Rothrock for today’s generation. Google her kids.

The first trailer and poster for John Stockwell's In the Blood, starring Gina Carano, are now available for you to enjoy. The actioner finds Carano's character on a violent path to track down the people responsible for kidnapping her husband during a tropical vacation. The interesting thing about this first look at In the Blood isn't so much the plot (we've seen similar stories in decades of male-fronted action films), but the fact that the gender roles have been inverted. You can see for yourself after the jump, but Carano isn't just playing the action star - she's the real deal. Also starring Cam Gigandet, Luis Guzmán, Amaury Nolasco, Ismael Cruz Cordoba, Treat Williams, Stephen Lang, and Danny Trejo, In the Blood opens April 4th. Hit the jump to check out the first trailer and poster. A while back, we talked to Carano about In the Blood during her »

While she has been subsequently seen in supporting roles in Fast & Furious 6 and the tv series Almost Human, many were excited to learn that she would be taking on another leading role in her latest project. Titled In The Blood, the film is directed by John Stockwell, who works from a script by Bennett Yellin and James Robert Johnston. It has been three years since Mma star Gina Carano stepped out of the ring and kicked ass on the big screen, with her first leading role in Steven Soderbergh's "Haywire." Since then, she hasn't rushed into the movie biz, only banking a role in "Fast & Furious 6" in the interim. But now she's back as the leading lady with "In The Blood" and the first trailer is here. Co-starring Luis Guzman, Danny Trejo and Stephen Lang, the film follows Ava, a newlywed whose husband disappears while they are on their honeymoon in the Caribbean. Little did they know the bride was Gina Carano. As you might expect, the grieving wife passionately and recklessly pursues the men she believes kidnapped and killed him, uncovering a conspiracy along the way. Basically, your standard genre stuff which is mostly a format to allow Carano to lay waste to a variety of bad guys, »

Just yesterday, we brought you images and details on the new action movie In The Blood starring Gina Carano. A lot of comments called it a gender-reversed Taken and now that the official trailer is here, that seems to be a pretty spot on comparison. While the production values seem to be mired in the direct to home entertainment range, In The Blood does seem to be a nice showcase for Carano's brand of ass-kicking, with a nice range of supporting actors including Stephen Lang, Danny Trejo, »

A few weeks ago, we got an exclusive look at L.A. Slasher, a new horror flick that is an indictment on reality television. Now, we get our first look at the poster:
L.A. Slasher, directed by Martin Owen (his feature directorial debut) offers a "biting social satire of reality TV." The L.A. Slasher abducts reality stars and kills them publicly, leading the public to wonder if they are better off without these non-celebrities. The film stars Danny Trejo (Machete), Mischa Barton (The O.C.), Dave Bautista (Riddick), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), and Drake Bell (Superhero Movie), along with porn actress Tori Black and reality "stars" Brooke Hogan and Andy Dick.

Machete Kills, 2013.
Directed by Robert Rodriguez.
Starring Danny Trejo, Alexa Vega, Mel Gibson, Carlos Estevez, Amber Heard, Vanessa Hudgens, Sofia Vergara, Jessica Alba, Lady Gaga, Michelle Rodriguez, Cuba Gooding Jr., Demián Bichir, Zoe Saldana, Edward James Olmos, William Sadler, Antonio Banderas, Tom Savini, and Walton Goggins.
Machete is recruited by the U.S. President to take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.
While the original Machete trailer was one of the highlights of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's 2007 double feature Grindhouse, containing more entertainment value in its two minutes than the entirety of Death Proof, the 2010 feature version failed to live up to the promise of the faux trailer. Personally, I thought it played things a little too straight, if you can say that about a film that has its protagonist abseiling from a »
