Film Critics Name Their Most Anticipated Movies of the Fall — IndieWire Critics Survey

3 hours ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)

This week’s question: What fall movie are you most excited to see?

E. Oliver Whitney (@cinemabite), Screencrush.com

Is there any acceptable answer besides “The Killing of a Sacred Deer”? No, no there is not. (Unless you count December as ‘fall,’ which means the new PTA is my most anticipated.) “The Lobster” would’ve been my favorite film of last year had “Moonlight” not taken the top spot, and “Dogtooth” leaves me in a mix of amazement and horror each time I watch it. So new Yorgos Lanthimos is like a drug for me. But while I’m at it, I also can’t wait for “The Florida Project, »

Meyerowitz Stories Trailer Unites Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller and Dustin Hoffman

16 August 2017 9:23 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

"And the Oscar goes to, Adam Sandler!" Are those words you ever thought you would hear in your lifetime? As crazy as it may sound, we can't absolutely rule it out. The Meyerowitz Stories earned the actor a 4-minute standing ovation at Cannes and there has been considerable buzz ever since. Now Netflix has released the first trailer for The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) and it actually seems like this buzz may have been warranted. Plus, we get to see Ben Stiller punch Adam Sandler in the face.

Netflix stepped in and scooped up The Meyerowitz Stories after it premiered, which has been standard practice for them on the festival circuit these days. Not to mention that they have a contract with Adam Sandler that has him produce original movies for them, but those are the usual Happy Madison offerings that most people probably wouldn't watch unless they were free on Netflix. »

Daniel Doheny, Luke Spencer Roberts, Eduardo Franco, and Sadie Calvano have joined the cast of the Netflix comedy “Eggplant Emoji.”

They join Geraldine Viswanathan, who is in negotiations to star.

Netflix landed the spec by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider following a bidding war earlier this year.

Ben Stiller and Nicky Weinstock will produce the dark comedy via their Red Hour Films banner. Blake Anderson, Adam Devine, Anders Holm, and Kyle Newacheck, the creators and stars of the Comedy Central show “Workaholics,” are also on board to produce.

In the vein of “Superbad,” the plot follows a teenager who accidentally cuts off his penis during a camping trip. He and his friends rush to save the appendage before it’s too late.

Doheny just wrapped production on the Netflix pic “Alex Strangelove” while Roberts was most recently seen in “Fear the Walking Dead.” Franco »

First Teaser Trailer for Noah Baumbach's Film 'The Meyerowitz Stories'

15 August 2017 3:32 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Meet the Meyerowitz Family. Netflix has unveiled the first teaser trailer for Noah Baumbach's latest film, The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected), which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier in the summer. This quaint indie dramedy is about three siblings who reconnect and come together in New York for an event celebrating the artistic work of their father. Dustin Hoffman plays the father, a sculptor who has always been the dominant member of the family. Emma Thompson stars as his wife, and the siblings are played by Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, and Elizabeth Marvel. Everyone in this gives superb performances, especially Hoffman and Thomson, but the film is a bit dry. You're either going to love it or hate it, as it's a film about the struggles between grown adults and their aging parents. Check out the teaser. Coming Distractions: See Adam Sandler in an actual good movie in the first trailer for The Meyerowitz Stories

15 August 2017 3:21 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Every few years, some stray artistic impulse prods Adam Sandler to bring out the sad clown lurking underneath his normal angry clown, loud clown, and vacation clown performances, producing critically acclaimed films like Funny People or Punch-Drunk Love. Going off of the reception it got at Cannes, Noah Baumbach’s The Meyerowitz Stores (New And Selected) looks to be the latest in the “good Sandler movie” oeuvre, with our own A.A. Dowd praising the actor’s performance (and even moreso his co-star Ben Stiller, a comic actor with a more extensive track record in Baumbach’s seriocomic world).

Now you can get a hint of Meyerowitz for yourself, courtesy of Netflix and the film’s first trailer, showing off Sandler, Stiller, Dustin Hoffman, and Emma Thompson as members of the title clan, all singing a song about a guy named Byron (or possibly Myron). Baumbach’s film debuts on »

First Trailer for Noah Baumbach’s ‘The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)’

A new Adam Sandler movie is coming to Netflix, but don’t run away just yet. Rather than being part of his own comedy deal with the streaming giant, he’s starring in the latest film from Noah Baumbach. The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected), also starring Ben Stiller, Emma Thompson, and Dustin Hoffman, follows a family coming together, and now the first trailer has landed following its Cannes premiere earlier this year.

Adam Sandler has acted in nearly 50 feature films, the majority of which he’s played the lead. It won’t come as any great surprise to learn that The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) is amongst the best works of his career, comfortably scaling the lower denominators to reach those sparse upper peaks,” we said in our review. “Director Noah Baumbach draws from the 51-year-old’s main talents as both comedic songwriter (as in his early standup »
