Rod Steiger moved with his mother to Newark, New Jersey after her divorce was final. He dropped out of Westside High school at age 16 and joined the Navy. He saw action in the Pacific on a destroyer. He returned to New Jersey after the war and worked for the VA. He joined an amateur acting group. He then joined the Actors' Studio using his GI Bill benefits. See full bio »
