New Avengers: Age Of Ultron TV Spot

30 January 2015 1:38 AM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

It might not be receiving the Super Bowl TV spot treatment, but Marvel has made sure we’re all still anticipating Avengers: Age Of Ultron with a new ad. Cue the heroes squabbling and the robotic drones causing havoc…There is a lot here that we’ve seen in previous trailers, but some of those moments are expanded upon and you’ll find plenty of new footage lurking within the relatively short trail.Among the highlights this time? Plenty of mystery about a strange medical procedure, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) accusing Tony (Robert Downey Jr.) of meddling in things he doesn’t understand, more Hulk versus Hulkbuster action and James Spader’s technological terror Ultron threatening to tear the team apart from the inside. And if the growing tension between them present here is any indication, he might just succeed...With Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, »

29 January 2015 3:53 PM, PST | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

The Avengers: Age of Ultron promises to not only live up to all the hype, but possibly be better than its predecessor. After releasing two incredible theatrical trailers, Marvel has dropped a new TV spot for writer/director Joss Whedon’s Marvel sequel three months before the film’s release. There’s a lot packed into this quick 30 second TV spot including Captain America facing off against Ultron’s robot henchmen and Hulk going up against Tony Stark in his Hulkbuster armor. Disney wisely opted not to buy ad time for the film during this weekend’s Super Bowl, and instead they’ve put it out ahead of time for our viewing pleasure. Written and directed by Joss Whedon, The Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, James Spader, Stellan Skarsgard, Samuel L. Trailer Trashin’: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are Back in Avengers: Age of Ultron

23 January 2015 1:02 PM, PST | CinemaNerdz | See recent CinemaNerdz news »

It’s an embarrassment of riches for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (McU), dear readers. Hot on the heels of last week’s examination of the Ant-Man teaser trailer, this week’s Trailer Trashin’ looks at what will probably be the biggest movie of summer 2015, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Premise: With S.H.I.E.L.D. destroyed and the Avengers needing a hiatus from stopping threats, Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) attempts to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program with Ultron (James Spader), a self-aware, self-teaching, artificial intelligence. But the plan backfires when Ultron decides that humans are the real enemy and sets out to eradicate them from the Earth, and it is up to Iron Man, Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Bruce Banner/The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Clint Barton/Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), along with support from Nick Fury »

In Order Of Disappearance DVD Review

20 January 2015 4:30 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Director: Hans Petter Moland

Cast: Stellan Skarsgård, Kristofer Hivju, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Pål Sverre Hagen, Bruno Ganz, Anders Baasmo, Tobias Santelmann, Jakob Oftebro, Hildegard Riise

Certificate: 15

Run Time: 116 minutes

Snowploughing Citizen of the Year Nils Dickmann (Stellan Skarsgård) is proof that ‘Norwegian kids shouldn’t disappear because of obnoxious parents looking for them’ in Hans Petter Moland’s latest film, In Order Of Disappearance.

Set amidst Norway’s mountainous winterscape, Moland and Skarsgård’s fourth collaboration is a noirish ‘Pulp Fiction went to Fargo’ comedy that sadly fails to measure up to the wit, violent humour, and humorous violence of Tarantino and the Coen Brothers.

Don’t get me wrong – I actually enjoyed this film…a lot, and was disappointed when I missed its screening at the Sydney Film Festival back in June, 2014.  Kim Fupz Aakeson’s screenplay contains numerous moments of brilliance like Nils’ showdown with Striker (Kristofer Hivju »

How would you program this year's newest, most interesting films into double features with movies of the past you saw in 2014?

Looking back over the year at what films moved and impressed us, it is clear that watching old films is a crucial part of making new films meaningful. Thus, the annual tradition of our end of year poll, which calls upon our writers to pick both a new and an old film: they were challenged to choose a new film they saw in 2014—in theatres or at a festival—and creatively pair it with an old film they also saw in 2014 to create a unique double feature.

All the contributors were given the option to write some text explaining their 2014 fantasy double feature. What's more, each writer was given the option to list more pairings, with or without explanation, as further imaginative film programming we'd be lucky to catch »

We’ve included a few choice co-productions in 2015’s pick of the year’s most interesting-looking pictures, which bolsters our list in both size and breadth (and mostly means we Brits can claim partial credit for ace-sounding dystopian flick The Lobster).

Midnight Arrives In New Cinderella Trailer

2 January 2015 11:51 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

As Disney goes through the motions of updating many of their classic animated films to live action, CGI-infused adventures, we can expect some to be good (Maleficent) and some to be questionable (Alice in Wonderland). It’s anyone’s guess which category Kenneth Branagh’s new version of Cinderella will fall into, but at least it looks suitably bright and shiny with more emphasis on practical mis-en-scene than the usual CGI.

The latest trailer for Cinderella landed on New Year’s Eve, making the most of a plot that revolves around the stroke of midnight. Here we see the beauty of Branagh’s palette, with bright and lavish sets, gorgeous costumes and some convincing CGI geese. Cate Blanchett is on hand to lend some evil gravitas to the proceedings, while Helena Bonham Carter appears to be having a wonderful time as the fairy godmother who helps Cinderella (Lily James) go the ball. »
