Paradigm ups four to agents

Paradigm Talent & Literary has upped four agent trainees to agent status, two in the production department and two in the New York office. In the production department, where co-heads Frank Balkin and Jonathan Silverman recently received multiyear contract renewals, Jasan Pagni and Chris Stormes have received promotions. Pagni joined Paradigm in August 2001, while Stormes joined the agency in April. Pagni worked at Skylark Films and Marty Katz Prods. Stormes came to Paradigm from CAA. "It's been exciting to be part of and to watch the growth of this department over the past two years," Balkin said. In the New York office, Scott Metzger and Tim Sage have been upped in the motion picture, television and theater department. »

'Cookout' pic heats up with Queen Latifah

Queen Latifah is grilling up The Cookout. Joining her in the Lance Rivera-directed Lions Gate Films project -- which Queen Latifah co-wrote with her Flavor Unit Films partner Shakim Compere -- is a roster including Quran Pender, Ja Rule, Eve, Jonathan Silverman, Jenifer Lewis, Meagan Good, Tim Meadows, Farrah Fawcett and Danny Glover. Cookout, which is before the cameras in New Jersey, stars Pender as Todd Anderson, a basketball star who becomes the No. 1 NBA draft pick. To celebrate, he organizes a "cookout" in his new mansion with his crazy friends and relatives. »

Klein, Light get tickets to 'Stones'

Comedian Robert Klein and Judith Light have signed on to star in CBS' comedy pilot The Stones. Meanwhile, Jonathan Silverman has been cast in another CBS comedy pilot, Crazylove, Park Overall has joined NBC's comedy pilot Alligator Point, and Michael Rispoli has been tapped for ABC's drama pilot 10-8. The Stones, from Warner Bros., KoMut Entertainment and producers Jenji Kohan, David Kohan and Max Mutchnick, centers on boomer parents (Klein, Light) whose decision to get divorced rattles their twentysomething children. »

Showtime cages 'Free' adaptation

NEW YORK -- Showtime will adapt the nationally syndicated comic strip Free for All into an animated series for its primetime schedule in the summer. Animation studio Film Roman will produce seven episodes of Free, a cartoon comedy depicting a pair of cynical friends whose world includes a drunken ferret and a homicidal grandmother. Free was co-written and executive produced by Merriweather Williams (SpongeBob SquarePants) and Brett Merhar, who created the original strip. Film Roman president and CEO John Hyde and Richard Hull also are executive producers. Voices for the series will be supplied by Jonathan Silverman, Jeremy Piven, Juliette Lewis, Mitzi McCall and Sam McMurray. »
