Billionaire gives world the In The Army Now sequel no one wanted

24 May 2012 1:30 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Remember In The Army Now, the hit comedy of 1994 that had audiences rolling in aisles, gasping for air between fits of laughter, and racking up hundreds of millions of dollars in box office returns? No, because none of the preceding sentence is true except for the fact that In The Army Now did, indeed, come out in 1994. (To put things in perspective, its nearly $29 million gross was only good enough to make it the third-highest grossing Pauly Shore movie.) But that’s not stopping billionaire Alki David, the CEO behind FilmOn.TV, from funding a sequel starring »

No One Wants an In the Army Now Sequel, Do They?

24 May 2012 9:45 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Pauly Shore and Andy Dick "reunited" yesterday on Dick's web series, and the two sort of agreed to collaborate on a sequel to In the Army Now. "I've always said we should do In the Army Again," Dick said, and Shore agreed. "We just need a script and someone to back the project and I'm in," Shore said, which sure does sound iron-clad and like a plan that will absolutely 100 percent work out perfectly, ending in a blockbuster feature film. ("In the Army Again"? How about In the Army Later? Or Out of the Army Now? In the Navy Now? No bad ideas in a brainstorm.) Now all that's left to ponder is how to orchestrate a Son in Law sequel! Carla Gugino, wait by your phone. »

'Castle,' 'Grey's Anatomy,' 'Hawaii Five-0,' 'Once Upon a Time': Find out what's next in the Spoiler Room

I had a revelation recently when chatting with my colleague Mandi Bierly about her sharing a dish of lobster mac and cheese with Pauly Shore during a recent interview. (You could ask her for details on that story, but that’s really all there is to it.): My life is weird.

In the past week, I’ve party-stalked Charlie Sheen (with no luck getting two minutes alone for an interview), talked about Titanic with Ringer’s Ioan Gruffudd (he’s in it!), watched Megan Mullally steal from my colleagues, and hung out with the cast of the fantastic new drama Scandal. »

Back to the Comedy Well: Anchorman, Dumb & Dumber, Twins 2

3 April 2012 12:57 PM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

“Finally! Yes!” “Really? Again?” Those were the quick, general reactions this week as new developments signaled serious movement on Anchorman 2, Dumb & Dumber 2, and a left-field sequel to 1988′s Twins involving Eddie Murphy. Social networks have been abuzz with this ambivalence, and with good reason. “They’re back! But will they be the same? Can they?”

Part of me wanted to leap into the air — then magically freeze frame — when Will Ferrell strolled onto Conan O’Brien to play the jazz flute and announce a sequel to his quotable 2004 hit, Anchorman. A wave of elation hit when ComingSoon broke the news this weekend that not only is Dumb & Dumber 2 happening, but the Farrelly brothers say Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are returning to shoot the sequel in September. (2003′s Dumb & Dumberer was a prequel the Farrellys had nothing to do with.) Then, the surge of indifference when THR reported Arnold Schwarzenegger, »

Pauly Shore Goes From Mob Family To Moonshine On 'Whiskey Business'

26 March 2012 2:41 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

For members of Generation X, Pauly Shore will forever be "The Weasel" from MTV. In the mid-'90s he parlayed that success into a string of movies where he essentially played the same California laid back character. But since that time, he's expanded into other types of roles, like his latest as the son of a mobster who runs away to the country in "Whiskey Business" (Sun., 7 p.m. Et on Cmt).

The original movie has the now 44-year old actor playing Nicky Ferelli, a guy who runs from his mob family -- where he's been framed for murder -- and finds himself in a small town down south. He uses his skills from back home as a flair bartender to make some impressive moonshine, which gets him on the radar of the local law enforcement, led by the Sheriff, played by John Schneider.

EW Extras: Pauly Shore talks the 20th anniversary of 'Encino Man,' bud-dy!

23 March 2012 1:11 PM, PDT | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Encino Man, that little film in which two high school students, social climber Dave (Sean Astin) and outcast Stoney (Pauly Shore), find a frozen caveman (Brendan Fraser) buried in Dave’s yard, thaw him out, and enroll him in high school. Knowing that the DVD’s only special features are the original trailer and a three-and-a-half-minute production featurette — the highlight of which is watching a movie producer use a gigantic cell phone on set — EW decided to celebrate by creating its own set of extras with help from Shore.

23 High School Movies That Get The Passing Grade

15 March 2012 1:17 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Considering it's where most of us (bar the weird home-schooled kids) spend our crucial formative years, where we have our first fights, our first loves, our first tentative steps into adulthood, it's no surprise that high school has long been a popular setting for movies. A range of genres (though generally leaning towards comedy) have taken place in those hallways, particularly from the 1980s onwards, when John Hughes, among others, made an entire career out of the lives and loves of 15-18 year olds.

The latest film to head back to class is "21 Jump Street" (review here) the big-screen reboot of the '80s TV show, which stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as youthful-looking cops who are sent back to high school in order to bust a drug-running ring. While you might assume this to be another lazy remake, you'd be very wrong, as Tatum, Hill, co-writer Michael Bacall, »

Review By J Astro

At home alone the other night, I agonized between my top two choices for the evening’s entertainment; the newly released DVD of Final Destination 5, or a copy of Pauly Shore’s Encino Man that I picked up on the cheap. “I’ve already seen Encino Man,” I thought to myself.  “Yeah, but you’ve basically already seen Final Destination four times before, too” came my internal reply.  Ooooh! Burn! Good one, me!

But seriously.  When I throw myself behind a series, I’m usually in it for the long haul, no matter how bad things get.  I stuck with the entire Saw franchise, »
