Disney Dominates Weekend Box Office with Jungle Book and Captain America: Civil War

1 May 2016 2:07 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The last weekend in April is normally rather quiet at the box office, since it represents the calm before the storm that is the summer movie season. Next weekend, Marvel's Captain America: Civil War kicks off the summer movie season, but Disney's The Jungle Book has been dominating since opening earlier this month. The adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's timeless classic has won for the third straight week in a row, taking in an impressive $42.4 million, beating three newcomers who all underperformed, Keanu, Mother's Day and Ratchet & Clank. Captain America: Civil War also posted impressive box office numbers in its international debut this weekend.

Last weekend, The Jungle Book dropped just 41.1% to take in $60.8 million. According to Box Office Mojo, the Disney adventure only dropped an impressive 31% in its third weekend, earning $42.4 million from 4,041 for an impressive $10,502per-screen average. The movie has earned just over $252 million domestically and $684.7 million worldwide, »

Movie Review: Ratchet and Clank

29 April 2016 6:46 AM, PDT | CinemaNerdz | See recent CinemaNerdz news »

I would feel dishonest writing this review if I didn’t mention my attachment to the game series on which this film is based: I am a massive fan and have been playing them since Ratchet and Clank was first released in 2002. I have played every single entry in the franchise and have almost always been completely satisfied with my experience. Naturally, when I heard my beloved duo was making the transition to the big screen, I was delighted. Perhaps it was these admittedly high expectations that led to it being a generally disappointing experience, however there are a few reasons that I think I would have come to this conclusion regardless of my history with the franchise.

The film follows Ratchet (voiced by James Arnold Taylor), a young Lombax hoping to become a hero. Meanwhile, Alonzo Drek (voiced by Paul Giamatti) and his evil partners Dr. Nefarious (voiced by »

Ratchet & Clank, 2016

Directed by Kevin Munroe and Jericca Cleland

Starring James Arnold Taylor, David Kaye, Jim Ward, Rosario Dawson, Paul Giamatti, John Goodman, Armin Shimerman, Bella Thorne, Sylvester Stallone

Synopsis:

When the galaxy comes under the threat of a nefarious space captain, a mechanic and his newfound robot ally join an elite squad of combatants to save the universe.

It’s a big year for video game movies. While we only had one last year in Hitman: Agent 47 – which didn’t perform all that well – we’ve got a whopping four adaptations in 2016. But before we get to Warcraft, The Angry Birds Movie and Assassin’s Creed, we’ve got the smaller budget and smaller release Ratchet & Clank from producer Brad Foxhoven, who nearly brought Metroid to the big screen in 2006 with John Woo. So, how does Ratchet & Clank set the tone for the rest of the year?

As with most video game adaptations, »

Can Disney's Jungle Book Win Week 3 at the Box Office?

27 April 2016 10:29 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

After dominating at the box office for two weeks in a row, Disney's The Jungle Book will go up against three newcomers in the final weekend of spring, before the summer movie season officially kicks off with the May 6 release of Captain America: Civil War. Standing in The Jungle Book's way of a three-peat is the Warner Bros. comedy Keanu, Focus Features' animated adventure Ratchet & Clank and Open Road Films' Mother's Day. While The Jungle Book most certainly won't win on May 6, going up against Captain America: Civil War, it should have no trouble taking the top spot for a third week in a row.

According to Box Office Mojo, both Ratchet & Clank and Mother's Day are expected to open in approximately 2,800 theaters, with Keanu expected to debut in more than 2,600 theaters. Keanu is already a hit with the critics, with a 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while Mother's »

Jackie Earle Haley Eyed For Villain Roles In The Dark Tower And The Tick

14 April 2016 2:31 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Continuing his anti-hero/villain persona, actor Jackie Earle Haley is set to play the key villainous figure in Amazon’s reboot of The Tick. There, he’ll portray The Terror and go toe-to-toe with newly-cast Peter Serafinowicz, who plays the titular character. Haley’s baddie is billed as a powerful super villain and leader of an evil league of mysterious characters.

The Terror was featured in one episode of the short-lived Fox live-action version of The Tick back in 2001, played by Armin Shimerman, but it seems like Haley’s version will be a series regular.

On the film side of things, Haley is in talks to join Nikolaj Arcel’s big screen adaptation of The Dark Tower. In the vein of Abby Lee’s casting as little-known book figure Tirana, Haley is circling the role of Sayre, who’s described as “a menacing humanoid who is a vampire leader.”

'Ratchet and Clank' TV Spots Unleash the Sheepinator

4 February 2016 5:19 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

It's been quite some time since we've seen any footage from Ratchet & Clank, with our last glimpse coming with the second trailer released way back in October. Now that we're getting closer and closer to the April 29 release, Playstation Nation has unveiled two new TV spots, which showcases the transforming powers of a weapon known as 'The Sheepinator.' As you might have guessed, this crazy ray gun turns its targets into sheep. We're not quite sure how exactly that's useful, but The Sheepinator was a popular weapon used in the Playstation video game series this animated movie is based on.

The story centers on the title characters, Ratchet (James Arnold Taylor) and Clank (David Kaye), two unlikely heroes struggle to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek (Paul Giamatti) from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. Ratchet is the last of his kind, a foolhardy "lombax" who has »
