Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre produced its first show within the city limits with his play "Our Late Night." It opened July 8, 1977, was directed by Gary Houston and featured Laurie Metcalf, Joan Allen, Alan Wilder, John Malkovich, Moira Sinise, H.E. Bacchus and Terry Kinney.
