Pray for The Possession’s New Poster

If you missed it the first time ’round, the trailer for “The Possession” (above) is definitely worth a look. I’m frankly surprised it’s a PG-13 horror movie. It looked way harder-edged than that. Familiar New One-Sheet for The Possession

21 May 2012 8:05 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The latest one-sheet for Lionsgate's The Possession is here, and it's familiar for two reasons: one, we've seen the image before, and two, we never realized how much it reminded us of The Exorcist until we saw it in poster form.

The flick centers upon a family who find themselves in possession of a haunted box and their struggles to get rid of its evil curse. The jumping off point is a true story culled from the Leslie Gornstein-bylined Los Angeles Times article "A Jinx In A Box" (July 2004).

Look for Ole Bornedal's The Possession starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Madison Davenport, and Natasha Calis in theatres on August 31st, 2012.

The Possession Poster: Girl Possessed by Demon

21 May 2012 12:44 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

The Possession poster "Pray for Her," reads the headline in The Possession poster. But why should anyone bother praying for "her"? Because the young girl in question has been possessed by a spirit — a dibbuk — that may eventually destroy her soul. Apparently a mix of The Exorcist, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Audrey Rose, Poltergeist, and The Host, The Possession is purportedly based on a true story about a young girl who becomes obsessed with an antique wooden box. Lionsgate will release the horror drama on August 31 in the United States. Natasha Calis plays the girl; Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick are her parents. Nightwatch‘s Ole Bornedal directed from a screenplay by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White. Spider-Man‘s Sam Raimi is one of the film’s producers. The Possessed‘s poster was found at Fearnet.com. »

Glimpse of Next Scary Movie Season in Trailer for 'The Possession'

18 May 2012 12:04 PM, PDT | Planet Fury | See recent Planet Fury news »

Another year and another young girl faces demonic possession.

The trailer for The Possession is out, giving us a glimpse of one of the horror films scheduled for scary movie season 2012. There are some familiar beats to the story: a young girl unwittingly gets involved in something a little demonic, there are infestations of exotic bugs, doctors are just mystified on how to help, and then the girl's eyeballs turn a weird color and all hell breaks lose.

However, the trailer reveals that The Possession does take a slight turn that's not commonly taken. It looks as if the titled possession is a little literal; there is a special little "someone" growing inside the young girl, and I'm sure it's going to want to get out and see the world around the third act. Does anyone remember the 1978 film The Manitou ?

Familiar beats aside, this might be a fun August film. »

'The Closer' Kyra Sedgwick on husband Kevin Bacon's 'The Following': 'A great part for him'

17 May 2012 3:02 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Kyra Sedgwick is closing one chapter of television in her household, but another is about to open.

Husband Kevin Bacon will star as an FBI agent dealing with a network of serial killers on Fox's midseason series "The Following," and Emmy winner Sedgwick -- whose TNT police drama "The Closer" begins its final run of six episodes Monday, July 9 -- has plenty of advice for him as he starts his first continuing TV gig since his early-1980s stint on the now-defunct CBS daytime serial "Guiding Light."

"It's so crazy," a laughing Sedgwick tells Zap2it about the couple's two series dovetailing. "I don't think that his could have happened while I was doing mine, but I guess it could have. It is so very interesting, though ... and I can only hope to be as supportive and loving and wise as he was for me."

‘The Possession’ Trailer Reaffirms Age-Old Belief: Don’t Ever Buy Anything at a Yard Sale

17 May 2012 1:00 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

By now, audiences should be burnt out on horror films that promise that they’re based on true events – after all, whoever heard about this stuff before it hit the big screen? However, Ole Bornedel‘s The Possession actually has a news article to back it up! And one from the Los Angeles Times to boot! Based on the article “Jinx in a Box,” the formerly titled Dibbuk Box centers on a young girl who buys a creepy box at a yard sale, plunders its weird little treasures inside, and finds herself possessed by one angry spirit. The film stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Madison Davenport and Natasha Calis, and it looks scary as all get-out. Perhaps even scarier than actually going to a yard sale (shudder). The film’s first trailer is a solid one, and though it comes complete with some standard horror film shots (flying things! gasping »

Eli Roth Returns To Directing With 'Green Inferno'

17 May 2012 11:10 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

It's been a long time since filmmaker Eli Roth's last directorial effort, but the hiatus is officially over — and judging by the title alone, the results are bound to be explosive.

The Hollywood Reporter has the news out of Cannes that Roth's next slated to direct "The Green Inferno," a horror thriller about... well, we don't know, actually. The story is being kept a secret for now, but Roth's certainly enthusiastic about his top-secret plans.

"I've had an amazing few years producing, writing and acting, and am very excited to get back in the director's chair. I've been working on this idea for several years, and was inspired by filming in [Chile] and cannot wait to get back," he said in a statement, referring to his recent experience shooting the movie "Aftershock" in South America.

Disturbing First Trailer for The Possession Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick

17 May 2012 10:11 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Considering all of the changes that director Ole Bornedal's (Deliver Us from Evil) new horror movie, The Possession, has gone through, one might easily conclude that the movie itself is possessed and not simply the little girl named Em (Natasha Calis) at the heart of the story. The Sam Raimi-produced movie has had its title changed — it used to be called Dibbbuk Box — its rating downgraded from R to PG-13, and even had its release date pushed back nearly eight months to avoid competing with Paramount's possession movie, The Devil Inside. Presumably, there are no more changes on the horizon — for the movie, not the little girl — because Lionsgate has finally released the first disturbing trailer for The Possession.

Watch: Trailers For 'What Maisie Knew,' 'Won't Back Down,' 'The Possession' And 'Maniac'

17 May 2012 8:20 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

While the following films have all been simmering quietly on the burner while we usher in the major tent poles of the summer movie season, their trailers promise that once the explosions and action die down, we can get back to normal (for the most part).

First up is “What Maisie Knew,” featuring the likes of Julianne Moore, Alexander Skarsgård and Steve Coogan in a Henry James-derived dramedy that is set to explore the complexity of modern marriage and family happenings, and it looks as if it could be a charming little indie from the directing team of “Suture” helmers Scott McGehee and David Siegel. In this contemporary reworking of James' novel, young Maisie spends life being shuffled around between her irresponsible divorced parents, and watches as they start to pick out new partners – all while their new partners fall in love with each other. The impressive ensemble seems to be on point here, »
