Romantic Ending for 'Friends'

18 December 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Spoiler Alert: The final episodes of Friends will end with Phoebe and Mike's wedding and possibly Rachel and Ross's reunion, according to reports in British newspapers. Lisa Kudrow's dippy character and Paul Rudd will tie the knot in a lavish finale - and a twist in the romantic plot between Jennifer Aniston's character and Matt LeBlanc's Joey will result in Rachel getting back with original love Ross, played by David Schwimmer. A source tells the Daily Express, "The last shows of the final series will tie up many loose ends. Two endings are being shot to keep fans guessing as to all the permutations. But what is fixed is that Phoebe and Mike finally realize their love is true and that they should marry. There are the usual comical ups-and-downs with Phoebe as she first decides to give all the money for her wedding away to a children's charity. But then she goes and asks for it back, reasoning that because she never had a prom or a graduation, she deserves a big wedding. Rachel and Monica are the bridesmaids. There will also be a special guest star bridesmaid. The mystery actress is expected to get together with Joey, leaving the door open for the reunion between Rachel and Ross that the fans and the cast have been dreaming about." Rachel and Ross have had an on-off relationship ever since the beginning of the global hit series, and have previously married on a drunken trip to Las Vegas and had daughter Emma together. The final season is currently being filmed, and will be broadcast next year. »

4 December 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Ben Affleck has lost his crown as the celebrity poker champ after lucking out in the first round of a televised star-studded card challenge. The movie hunk beat Friends star David Schwimmer, Don Cheadle and actress Emily Procter to secure a match-up with Sex & The City actor Willie Garson, but lost to him in a tense finale. However Affleck didn't go home empty handed - he and all the losing card sharks on Celebrity Poker Showdown, which aired on Tuesday , were given $5,000 for their favorite charities. Meanwhile Garson, who credits his gambling skills to his father who was a semi- professional blackjack player, was given $100,000. He'll also progress to the grand final, to be played and televised later this month. »

Hyde Pierce Envies 'Friends' Cast's Youthful Look

25 September 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Frasier star David Hyde Pierce was consumed with envy when he met the cast of sitcom Friends at Sunday's Emmy Awards - because they all looked so young. The 44-year-old actor admits seeing Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc in the flesh did little to make him feel youthful. He says, "The Friends, I noticed, look exactly the same as they did 10 years ago. If you see an early episode of Frasier it looks like a children's theatre production. I realized that the reason is that all started in their mid 20s and went to their early-30s, and we started in our early-30s and now we're in our mid-40s. A whole lot of stuff happens to you in those years!" »

LeBlanc's Icy Final 'Friends' Season

11 September 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Matt LeBlanc is reportedly causing hostility on the set of the final season of hit comedy Friends amongst his co-stars by focusing more on his spin-off show. The actor - who will be reprising his character Joey Tribbiani in a new series - is reportedly boasting about his continued coverage on television, something which has left co-star David Schwimmer fuming, according to Britain's OK! magazine. A show insider says, "He says things like, 'When I'm the only one on TV next season, we're going to do things a little differently.' Most people just turn away and roll their eyes." Sources claim Schwimmer - who plays whining Ross Gellar - is angry he hasn't been offered a spin-off series of his own, something which is causing friction in his off-screen friendship with LeBlanc. The insider adds, "Matt has tried to make him feel better by offering him guest spots on the show." »

LeBlanc Will Reap 'Joey' Rewards Single-Handedly

29 July 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Friends hunk Matt LeBlanc is set to earn big bucks from his character spin-off series, Joey - although none of his former cast mates will be involved. As Joey Tribbiani in the long-running American sitcom, Matt - and his five co- stars - each earn $1 million per episode, but the newlywed actor will receive just $500,000 for the spin-off. However, a deal entitling LeBlanc to a greater share of the show's profits will mean he ends up earning more than before, according to TV network NBC. LeBlanc's Friends co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry will not appear in the new show. Executive producer Kevin Bright says, "It would be a mistake to start looking in that direction. This show needs to stand on its own." No script has yet been written for the spin-off yet, but sources say the show sees Joey move to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career, where he will doubtless be joined by a love interest and ensemble cast. »

Aniston's TV Tot Vanishes

9 May 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Friends fans have been closely analyzing the show after the past few weeks - because Jennifer Aniston's character Rachel appears to have abandoned her baby. Aniston's fictional daughter Emma, conceived with David Schwimmer's character Ross, arrived into the world late last year on the hit comedy. But in recent episodes, Rachel has been shown at various locations like the coffee shop and the spa - as well as on dates - without reasonable mentions of her offspring. Writer Michael Speier of Hollywood trade publication Daily Variety notes, "The fact that today's top-rated comedy would play the birth card for all its worth as did last season - and then pull the plug - is a little strange. "The history of recent TV tots may provide the motivation. Murphy Brown showcased Candice Bergen's kid - and then got rid of it - while Mad About You ratings took a dive after baby Mabel was featured over and over again." »

7 May 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Will & Grace star Eric McCormack is set to shift behind the cameras to make his feature directing debut. The Canadian actor has signed up for Disney flick What You Wish For, which he'll also write and star in. It is expected to begin filming next year. McCormack says of the romantic comedy, "It's about a normal married Midwestern couple whose marriage is turned upside down because of a celebrity sex fantasy. "The idea is, no matter how happy a person is with his partner, there's that one hot actress or athlete you'd allow them to sleep with, knowing it would never happen. Here, it happens." McCormack joins the likes of Friends heart-throb David Schwimmer and former ER actor Eriq La Salle as series stars who have made the transition to directing. »

Secrets from Matt LeBlanc's Hawaiian Wedding

7 May 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

David Arquette made the most of pal Matt LeBlanc's fantasy Hawaiian wedding at the weekend - he took surfing lessons on Kauai's north shore. Arquette joined his wife Courteney Cox and her Friends co-stars Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow at the lavish ceremony, where 200 family and friends toasted LeBlanc and his fiancée Melissa McKnight and then dined on mahi-mahi, grilled tuna and oysters. LeBlanc made sure his big day was kept under wraps - he hired out all the helicopters available on the Hawaiian islands - for the exclusive use of his guests. Noticeable absentees from the celebrations included the actor's Friends pals David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry, who were working on theatrical commitments in Chicago and London respectively. Aniston's husband Brad Pitt also missed the big day because he's filming Troy on the Mediterranean island of Malta. »

Mystery Surrounds Hawaiian Celebrity Wedding Plans

2 May 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hawaiian paradise island Kauai is hosting a top celebrity wedding this weekend - but locals aren't sure if it will be that of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin or Matt LeBlanc and Melissa McKnight. A host of stars are currently vacationing on the holiday isle, but locals are puzzled as to exactly who will be saying their 'I-dos' in an ocean-view bluff. Many, including British newspaper The Sun, believe the ceremony will have a Friends feel to it - because Matt LeBlanc is holidaying there with his long- term fiancee who he has just signed a pre-nuptial agreement with. LeBlanc's TV comedy co-star David Schwimmer has just left the island and some of the sitcom's top writers and producers have booked into the island's luxurious Princeville resort. Meanwhile, Jennifer Aniston has pulled out of promotional duties for her new movie Bruce Almighty this weekend. Oscar-winner Gwyneth Paltrow has sparked rumors too, after her publicists confirmed the actress is also vacationing on Kauai with her fey Coldplay rocker boyfriend. Local Dennis Long says, "I've never seen so many celebrities here at one time and there's definitely a big wedding taking place. There are lots of rumors but vendors are being asked to sign a confidentiality agreement, so no one is really talking. Some people think Ben and Jen are the couple who'll be walking up the aisle." »

'Friends' Design Their Own Recliners

22 April 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Television superstars Friends have designed their own reclining chairs for a charity auction. The six actors - Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc - all went to work in order to raise funds for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Reclining chairs played a major part in the show when roommates Joey and Chandler invested in a pair, considered to be the ultimate in lounge room comfort. Perry's chair is covered in blue velvet and has a swivel tray, cup holder and remote control storage. A sleek black leather chair with bent wood sides was designed by Cox and Kudrow is cloaked in brown leather. The items will be auctioned on internet side eBay between May 12-22. »

Brad Rejects Jen's 'Friends' Reunion Plan

11 February 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood hunk Brad Pitt has turned down the chance to play opposite his wife Jennifer Aniston in Friends for a second time - for artistic reasons. The Fight Club star appeared in an episode of the hit comedy series where he played an old school friend of David Schwimmer's character Ross Gellar with a hatred for Aniston's Rachel Green. After a rave reception from the show's fans, the cameo earned Pitt an Emmy nomination, but he is still not interested in repeating the experience. He says, "You can do these things once. Then that's it. Doing it again just wouldn't have the same impact." And a source adds, "Brad diplomatically explained to Jen he saw himself as a serious actor." »

'Friends' Cast to Diversify

31 January 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Friends bosses have decided to add a little diversity to their cast - by bringing in a love interest from an ethnic minority. The hit American TV show has long been criticized for the fact its cast lacks diversity - despite being set in the New York, one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities, all six lead stars are white. Now the sitcom's bosses are set to include a new paleontologist character for several episodes - and she'll be a potential love interest for David Schwimmer's character Ross and Matt LeBlanc's Joey. The show's bosses are making it clear that they want an ethnic minority actress for the role and are currently looking at "all races and ethnicities" say casting sources, particularly African American, Latino, Asian, Middle Eastern and/or American Indian women. »
