David Steinberg is happy to let his friends bring the funny.
Once a stand-up comic himself, Steinberg became one of the most prolific directors of television comedies including "Seinfeld," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Designing Women" and "Mad About You." He explores the nature of humor by talking with pals who are among the form's top stars -- from Martin Short, Jerry Seinfeld and Billy Crystal to Ellen DeGeneres, Larry David and insult czar Don Rickles -- on the Showtime series "Inside Comedy," premiering Thursday, Jan. 26.
"We were going to do a movie, a documentary film," Steinberg explains to Zap2it, "then everyone we asked to be in it said, 'Yes.' Everyone. Steve Carell (an executive producer, with Steinberg, of the project) said, 'If we do this as a film, Mel Brooks will get only four minutes. Chris Rock will only have three minutes.' And each interview was something like 40 minutes long, »

Ranked: Every Saturday Night Live Cast Member Ever, From Worst to Best A highly scientific survey that will surely lead to no disagreements. By Phil Nugent We are gathered here today to rank the — what is it? Jesus! — ninety-two past and present cast members of Saturday Night Live, in ascending order of their contribution to the show. This is no way to make friends. But while no one will be completely happy with the results, let's at least stress one of the ground rules: for the purpose of this experiment, these performers are being graded solely on the work they did on SNL itself. If we were talking about their entire careers, Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Rock, and Joan Cusack would be clustered at the top. As it is, they're not even serious contenders for the top twenty. 92. Victoria Jackson (1986-1992): Jackson's cute-ditsy-idiot act got pretty [...] »

Welcome to "That Happened This Year," MTV News' look back at the huge entertainment stories that were absolutely everywhere for a hot minute in 2011 but feel like they happened forever ago or faded so quickly from our collective memories that when we were brainstorming the year that was, we literally couldn't believe they happened this year!
Even the idea that Jennifer Lopez's career comeback began less than a year ago seems to defy physics. Did she somehow interrupt the space-time continuum in an effort to alter the very nature of time, where one year seems like three or four, to fool us into thinking she never really went anywhere?
For all intents and purposes, La Lopez's return to the top began on January 19, 2011 (we can't believe it either), when the tenth season of "American Idol" premiered on Fox. And in one fell swoop, nearly six years of box office »

Sean Combs -- better known as either P. Diddy, Diddy, Puff Daddy or Puffy -- has been in love with Rat Pack-style culture for nearly a decade. "I was watching 'Ocean's 11' and I just couldn't relate to it," Diddy told the New York Daily News back in 2005 about the George Clooney-fronted remake. "You have all these black icons, Chris Rock or Chris Tucker in comedy, Denzel Washington and Jamie Foxx in acting, me and Jay-z in music, what about us? It's about time to put the greatest black icons in a film together. We're not running around in 'do-rags and low riders anymore." Six years later, Diddy finally has his own 'Ocean's 11' -- though it's just a 30 second vodka commercial, seems partially inspired by 'The Hangover' and doesn't include any of those big names mentioned by the rapper/actor previously. »

I love Sundance and it will have more than its fair share of truly indie films. However, when your movie stars Bruce Willis (Lay the Favorite) or Chris Rock (2 Days in New York) or Kirsten Dunst (Bachelorette), it's not really an "indie". It's a low-budget drama or comedy. The Slamdance Film Festival, on the other hand, is comprised of true indies. It runs concurrently with Sundance and its motto is "By Filmmakers, For Filmmakers" because it’s the only festival fully programmed by filmmakers. If you're at Sundance and want to take a break from the crush of long lines and want to see a movie you'll probably never see anywhere else, head over to Slamdance. Hit the jump for the list of 18 features and 10 documentaries playing at the 2012 Slamdance Film Festival, which runs from January 20 – 26th in Park City, Utah. We've also included images from the films. Narrative Feature Competition Program, »

I just read that Chris Tucker has to sell two of his houses because of financial problems. Can't he just get another big movie job and pay them off? Why didn't he just pay cash for the houses when he had the money? —Manana V., via the inbox This is the same Chris Tucker who once shared a photo spread with Chris Rock in Vanity Fair's Hollywood issue, but also who, according to IMDb, has not released a film since 2007. So is this a one-percenter problem or a genuinely 99-percenter tragedy? Here's what I can tell you ... Even among onetime A-listers, or B-plus-listers, getting a job isn't all that easy. Most entertainers "are still like the girl on Saturday night »
Ah, another movie, another attempt to get back home to New York City. In this trailer for the third installment of the popular Madagascar series, our fearless (Ok, a little fearful) friends Alex the lion (Ben Stiller), Marty the zebra (Chris Rock), Gloria the hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Melman the giraffe (David Schwimmer) once again have their work cut out for them. This time, however, the action takes place in and around Monte Carlo as the foursome try to evade animal control. (Trust us, it'll make more sense after you watch the clip above.) Oh my! What to do? How can they possibly get through Europe without attracting attention? Well, how about joining a traveling circus? Um, yeah, good luck with »
