Michael C. from Serious Film here for a few good laughs.
Any future film historians examining the tail end of 2010 will likely mark this year as dark days for screen comedy. Comedy icons Woody Allen and James L Brooks rolled twin gutter balls, while mainstream audiences lined up around the block to watch the star of Taxi Driver do 98 minutes of boner jokes. As if to rub salt in the wound, the Golden Globes saw fit to nominate an inexplicable slate of comedies that were, with few exceptions, unfunny, unexceptional, or in some cases downright awful.
Still, if you managed to look beyond the large pile of high profile duds there were plenty of laughs to be had in 2010. So here for your consideration is the year in comedy. Not the best movies overall, »

Last night, the annual Kennedy Center Honors paid tribute to a new batch of entertainment superstars, including Sir Paul McCartney, and the grizzled Merle Haggard. Also being honored was a little talk show host out of Chicago you may have heard of named Oprah Winfrey. Sitting up in the VIP balcony with the leader of the free world and his wife among others, Oprah shook her head as Chris Rock sauntered onto the stage, knowing what was coming. And Rock didn't disappoint. Employing a variation on the "your mama's so fat" snaps, Rock let loose with a couple "Oprah's so rich" jokes that the Harpo head honcho gamely endured. Rock quipped, "Oprah's so rich China owes her money!" And like that, we were at a Friars Club roast. His next zinger was a little racier, and that's when [...] »
On the CBS broadcast of the 33rd annual Kennedy Center Honors, Oprah Winfrey was one of the honorees to receive recognition from fellow celebrities. Oprah pal John Travolta and Barbara Walters provided some harmless remarks, but luckily comedian Chris Rock arrived on the scene to offer some uncomfortably hilarious jabs at both the "most powerful person in the world" and the guy sitting next to her (Barack Obama). »

Us comedian will play one night at the O2 arena in London
Jerry Seinfeld, arguably the leading light of modern American comedy, announced today he is to play his first show in the UK since 1998.
Asked to explain the long stay away, Seinfeld told the Guardian: "Well it's not because of the food. I like the food, I'm a big fan of brown things. I've been very busy here in the States and I just wasn't even aware that there was an audience [in the UK] that really wanted me to come back until we spoke to a promoter who was very confident."
He will play one night at London's 20,000-capacity O2 Arena on 3 June next year. Tickets are on sale from 9am tomorrow. His only other European date is in Oslo.

Deadline reported that the story will be about two “veteran valet parking guys at a South Beach hotel who witness a murder and find themselves running for their lives.” Long time partners Kevin James and Nick Bakay will be penning the script for the film.
You may not exactly know Bakay’s name but he is the guy who has been collaborating with James since his rise to stardom with The King of Queens along with the films like Paul Blart: Mall Cop and his soon to be released film, Zookeeper.

The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star was among the guests attending the Children's Defense Fund benefit in New York City on Monday night.
Rock helped raise money by offering to serve a winning bidder breakfast, and when auctioneer Ali Wentworth failed to secure a huge donation for the prize, the clever saleswoman upped the odds by insisting he carry out the task naked.
According to the New York Daily News, she told the crowd, "Okay, if you donate $25,000, Chris Rock will bring you breakfast in bed. Chris Rock will deliver breakfast in bed naked if you donate $25,000."
The risque offer received the backing of Rock's wife and board member Malaak Compton-Rock, who shouted out, "He'll do it!"
The lot was finally sold to Hargitay, with Wentworth warning the absent funnyman, "Chris, get ready to get naked for Mariska Hargitay!" »
For three years Robert Townsend has been working as one of the more prolific and successful web series directors around, trying to do good with a number of projects with socially progressive non-profit One Economy. With over 30 years in the industry, Townsend is an understated but respected player in black Hollywood. Perhaps best known for his sitcom The Parent ’Hood and film Meteor Man – at least to me! – Townsend continues to work, making documentaries and films, most recently directing and producing a number of successful web series, including Diary of a Single Mom and the upcoming Los Americans. “It’s for the web but we’re trying something different,” Townsend said in an interview. For Townsend, these series, targeted at multicultural audiences, are not just a job but a philosophy. Diary, whose third season premiered last week, tells the story of a single mother, Ocean (Monica Calhoun, The Best Man, »

On Sunday's VH1 Divas Support the Troops special, comedian Kathy Griffin made a joke about Bristol Palin's apparent lack of weight loss while participating on "Dancing With the Stars." Bristol responded that she hoped people didn't have to pay money for Kathy's routine.
Now Tuesday morning (Dec. 7), the ladies of "The View" have weighed in on the subject during their Hot Topics segment.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck says, "I think it's something that she needs to cut out ... How is that not bullying in a way? It's pathetic, but it's bullying."
Joy Behar, interestingly enough, says that even though "thou shalt not bad mouth another comedian," she agrees with Hasselbeck and also points out that Griffin should have known her audience better. »
Oprah Winfrey received an award at the 33rd Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday night, December 5. The chat show host was one of five celebrities, along with Paul McCartney, country singer Merle Haggard, Broadway composer Jerry Herman and dancer Bill T. Jones, honored at the event held at the White House in Washington DC.
Oprah, who was accompanied by her long-term partner Stedman Graham, and Paul held hands on stage as U.S. President Barack Obama addressed the crowd, saying the recipients had "given the nation the extraordinary gift of the arts".
He added, "Although the honorees on this stage each possess a staggering amount of talent, the truth is, they aren't being recognized tonight simply because of their careers as great lyricists or songwriters or dancers or entertainers."
"Instead, they're being honored for their unique ability to bring us closer together and to capture something larger about who we are - not just as Americans, »
She's a Good Samaritan - and a good sport. Oprah Winfrey endured some good-natured jokes about her wealth, influence and humanitarian work from the likes of Chris Rock, John Travolta and others at Sunday night's Kennedy Center Honors gala. Travolta told the audience that he'd been "used" by the talk-show queen, 56, in a nefarious plot to help victims of Hurricane Katrina - telling him to fill his private plane with food and medicine and meet her in New Orleans. Immediately. "Take note, world - that's how you use people," Travolta said. "You do the right thing. You do the Oprah thing. »

In an interview he recently did with TvSquad.com, Ice-t sounded off on a few things regarding his character Detective Odafin “Fin” Tutuola on Law & Order: Svu. “I would like to find out where I live,” he said. The actor and former rapper has appeared on the series since 2000 but acknowledged his character’s life remains a mystery. “I don’t have a car.”
Overall, he stated “…I’m happy with Fin, I’m happy” but he would like to see a romantic relationship develop. “Every time a girl gets in my sights — it seems like I have a love interest that never works. They had a reporter show up once and I kind of flirted with her, but she disappeared. Then we had the new Ada [played by Paula Patton] show up one episode and we kind of had a moment, and [Patton] actually left to go work on Mission Impossible.”
