Simpson Prods. has 'Repo' rights

19 November 2002 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Lary Simpson Prods. has optioned the feature film rights to the novel Repo Girls, written by LaVerne Harvey. The unpublished novel is described as an action-comedy about two down-on-their-luck young women who quit their mundane jobs in a kitty-litter factory in favor of an inspired life of repossessing cars from crazy swamp rats in central Florida. The book is based on part of Harvey's life story. The project is out to writers to adapt for the screen. Simpson will produce, with Lary Simpson Prods. head of development Amy Dean serving as executive producer. The deal was negotiated for the producers by attorney Tom Hunter. Harvey is repped by the Firm, which also is shopping the book to publishers. Simpson most recently was executive producer of Bad Company, starring Anthony Hopkins and Chris Rock. In 1996, Lary Simpson Prods. acquired the assets of Don Simpson Prods. following the death of Don Simpson -- Lary's brother -- in January of that year. LSP continues to develop projects based on the Don Simpson assets, in addition to separate projects. »

Chris Tucker 'Too Rich' To Feud With Chris Rock

27 June 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Chris Tucker insists there's no reason why he and fellow funnyman Chris Rock should be feuding - because they're both outrageously rich. At the moment both Tucker, 29, and Rock, 36, are writing and preparing separate comedies about a White House occupied by a black commander-in-chief, with both listed as directors and lead actors. Tucker's project is entitled Mr. President, while Rock's is called Head Of State. But while Tucker clearly came up with the concept as early as 1999, Rock is the one who'll start shooting his flick in July, which has sparked reports of a bad blood between the pair. But Tucker refuses to accept that he and Rock could even contemplate embarking on a personal feud, because they both have very healthy wallets. He says, "I've heard all the reports that Chris and I are supposed to be feuding, but why would we do that? There's room for everybody to do what they want to do. He does his thing and I do mine. And anyway, rich people don't get mad at each other and feud. You can't get mad when you live in a mansion!" »

Chris Rock Brands Giuliani 'Crazy'

5 June 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Controversial comedian Chris Rock has branded former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani "crazy," insisting he shouldn't be getting all the praise he does for his time in office. The star of the upcoming movie Bad Company says that since leading the people of New York back to relative normalcy following the terrorist attacks of 9-11, Giuliani has been heaped with praise. But Rock insists that the politician did nothing special--and he's still the "crazy" character many perceived him to be before the attacks. He says, "Rudy did his job--that's all he did. Hey, the guy went out of his way, I will say. But that's the gig. You know, I had a girlfriend who was sexually attacked years ago, when I was seventeen or whatever, and I nursed her back to health, helping with the swollen eyes, feeding her, getting her back to the point where she could go outside. But I was her boyfriend--that was my gig. It's not like they should put me on the cover of Boyfriend Monthly." He adds, "Put it this way, if Rudy Giuliani hadn't left office, he was gonna do something crazy eventually. That's just him--he's crazy. He would've had a dust tax on all the dusty buildings or something. He did a good job but that's what he was supposed to do." »
