The Hollywood Reporter

“The movie is groundbreaking in a lot of ways,” asserts Ryan Reynolds of Deadpool, the blockbuster comic book adaptation released last February that he produced and stars in, as we sit down at the offices of The Hollywood Reporter to record an episode of the Awards Chatter podcast. “It usurps certain tropes of the superhero genre that were well-ready to be usurped. It also had just an unabashed commitment to its R rating. As I look back — and hindsight is obviously 20/20, but — it knew what it was, and I always knew what it was. I knew exactly how to play this guy [the irreverent title character], and I felt, in some weird way — not to »

"La La Land" Makes Golden Globes History! See Complete Winners List!

8 January 2017 4:40 PM, PST | Manny the Movie Guy | See recent Manny the Movie Guy news »

Damien Chazelle's "La La Land" made history at the 74th Annual Golden Globes winning all 7 nominations including Best Picture Musical/Comedy! The film won Best Actor (Ryan Gosling), Actress (Emma Stone), Director, Screenplay, Score, and Song! Previously, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was the record-holder for winning 6/6 and both "Doctor Zhivago" and "A Star is Born" 5 for 5.

A big congrats to Chazelle and "La La Land!"

The biggest upset for me? Natalie Portman's "Jackie" performance was overshadowed by Isabelle Huppert in "Elle." I thought Portman, wigs and make-up included, embodied the role of our former First Lady!

In the TV category, "The Night Manager" was the big winner taking home three awards (mostly for performance for Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Laurie), followed by "The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" and "The Crown" each with two.

Lionsgate’s musical took the best musical or comedy award at the 74th awards show on Sunday night.

Moments earlier, Emma Stone, who kicked off awards season with the Coppa Volpi win in Venice last autumn, had been named best actress in a musical or comedy for her role in the film. Stone dedicated her win to aspiring actors around the world.

La La Land converted all seven of its nominations on the night. Shortly before Stone’s award, writer-director Damien Chazelle picked up the screenplay prize following his earlier win for best director.

Collecting the directing prize earlier in the night, Chazelle thanked his producers “for not blanching at what must have seemed like an utterly insane proposition.”

La La Land’s Ryan Gosling won best performance by an actor in a motion picture - musical or comedy and star struck a sober note as he accepted his award.
