The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Trailer Uncovers a Secret World

15 November 2012 6:31 AM, PST | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

There's a secret world of monsters and demons hiding in plain sight in the first trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

Lily Collins, Robert Sheehan, Lena Headey, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Jamie Campbell Bower star in the big screen adaptation of Cassandra Clare's popular young adult book series. Part Harry Potter, part Twilight, and as the trailer reveals, part a lot of other things, The Mortal Instruments is the first film in a planned series that follows Clary Fray (Collins) and her discovery of another world and her family's secret connection to it.

Sony has made sure to include quite a bit of action in this first look at The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, perhaps to help distance itself a tad from its overly sappy paranormal romance cousin, Twilight. There appears to be plenty of swordplay sprinkled throughout, and a flamethrower that pops up on a couple occasions. »

It’s really trying to be the next Twilight, isn’t it. Although Cch Pounder and Jared Harris add a little more weight to what could be the next big series for young adults.

First Trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones Starring Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower

14 November 2012 7:43 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Screen Gems has released the first trailer for the adaptation of Cassandra Clare's young adult novel The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.  The story follows Clary Fray (Lily Collins), a teenage girl who discovers that she’s descended from a sect of half-angel warriors who protect the world from demons.  As a teen drama with ties to the occult, The Mortal Instruments will draw comparisons to Twilight.  But the trailer---specifically the sword fights and flamethrowers within--- suggest more ass-kicking.  There is a big world and dense mythology here to explore, and the visuals help sell it better than the synopsis ever could.  It helps when you have Mad Men's eloquent Jared Harris to deliver the exposition in what sure looks like the "Giles" role. Jamie Campbell Bower, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Lena Headey, Kevin Durand, Cch Pounder, and Kevin Zegers also star.  Directed by Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid »

First Image From 'Mortal Instruments' Arrives, Four Testing For Male Lead In 'Divergent' Opposite Shailene Woodley

With "Twilight" wrapping up its final installment this week, there's clearly a certain amount of jostling to be the next big young adult franchise going on. "The Hunger Games" certainly has the early lead, but that franchise is already eyeing its 2015 endgame by hiring Francis Lawrence to direct the two-part finale, 'Mockingjay,' so the field is still fairly open. And there's plenty on the way, with two of the contenders starting to show their wares or shape up their casts. First up is "Mortal Instruments: City of Bones," the first part of the adaptation of Cassandra Clare's best-selling novel series, starring Lily Collins as a seemingly ordinary girl drawn into the secret underground world of the Shadowhunters who protect humanity from demons, led by the charismatic Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower). Lena Headey, Jared Harris, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Robert Sheehan, Jemima West, Kevin Zegers, Aidan Turner, Cch Pounder and Kevin. »

Lily Collins Battles Demons in First 'Mortal Instruments' Picture

I don't know anything about Cassandra Clare's young adult fantasy books, but I do know The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is the first in the film series and Screen Gems is hoping it will have some sort of The Hunger Games, Twilight and/or Harry Potter appeal as Ya franchises are all the rage at the moment. Today the first picture of Lily Collins (Mirror, Mirror) has arrived as she plays Clary Fray, a descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. Favorite Moments:

To be honest, this wasn't one of my favorite episodes. I didn't think the Dave/Alex house hunting bit worked at all (even though it featured the faboo Rachael Harris), and they should rethink re-paring them. There were some great throwaway bits, though. "The nervous tic in your boob." "That thing's jumping like Kriss Kross." "Welcome To Max World™®""Cch Pounder!"I so want Jane to go with me when I buy a car.

Warehouse 13: Early Review of 'We All Fall Down' (Midseason Finale)

1 October 2012 7:19 AM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

If you've watched the first nine episodes of Warehouse 13's fourth season you've likely noticed the darkness that's overtly encroached on its tone. That tonal change, discussed in my interview with Saul Rubinek and Eddie McClintock when the season premiered (available here), was seriously controversial among fans of the signature lighthearted approach that marked the series' first three incredibly well-received seasons. Well, tonight's midseason finale is precisely the kind of nightmarish installment those comedic-oriented fans were afraid of.

In "We All Fall Down" the team discovers Lena's fate and its cause, prompting the core cast to demonstrate rarely seen depths of their dramatic acting chops. Aaron Ashmore, Cch Pounder and special guest Brent Spiner all deliver praiseworthy performances but it's the main four [Rubinek, McClintock, Kelly and Scagliotti] that really knock this one out of the park. While each of the primary leads has been emotionally distraught individually in past episodes, the cumulative weight »

Cloud Atlas

Once Looper hits theaters, we get the feeling that all of the hype and excitement bubbling beneath the surface for the Watchowski’s Cloud Atlas will explode, and it will become the most anticipated film for a while, until the moniker passes to Twilight Skyfall.
