Stephen Lang’s Colonel Quaritch is the villain of all four Avatar sequels, Matt Gerald to return

10 August 2017 3:41 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Despite his apparent demise in Avatar, Stephen Lang is confirmed to be reprising his role for James Cameron’s upcoming sequels, and now Cameron has revealed that he will in fact be the main villain in all four of the new movies.

“The interesting conceit of the Avatar sequels is it’s pretty much the same characters,” Cameron tells Empire. “There are new characters and a lot of new settings and creatures, so I’m taking characters you know and putting them in unfamiliar places and moving them on this greater journey. But it’s not a whole bunch of new characters every time. There’s not a new villain every time, which is interesting. Same guy. Same motherfucker through all four movies. He is so good and he just gets better. I know Stephen Lang is gonna knock this out of the park.”

Jake, Neytiri, and the other Na’vi haven’t seen the last of Miles Quaritch.

Eight years ago, Stephen Lang’s bullish colonel terrorized Pandora as the head of Rda’s (Resources Development Administration) private security force, before ultimately ‘dying’ at the hands of Zoe Saldana’s Neytiri. But just as franchise mastermind James Cameron plans to bring back Sigourney Weaver for Avatar 2 and its many sequels, we’re now learning that Lang’s hardboiled military operative will continue to menace Jake (Sam Worthington) and the gang all throughout the Avatar saga. Perhaps Quaritch will be sporting some form of human exoskeleton in a few year’s time? Or will the antagonist go full cyborg in his mission to conquer Pandora?

Either way, ahead of production kicking off this fall, Empire sat down with James Cameron »

Weta Digital begins work on James Cameron’s Avatar sequels

1 August 2017 3:03 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Variety is reporting that visual effects company Weta Digital has started work on James Cameron’s four Avatar sequels, which are slated to begin principal photography this September.

“What Joe Letteri and Weta Digital bring to these stories is impossible to quantify,” said Cameron. “Since we made Avatar, Weta continued to prove themselves as doing the best CG animation, the most human, the most alive, the most photo-realistic effects in the world. And of course, that now means I can push them to take it even further.”

Avatar is the ideal type of film for us,” added senior visual effects supervisor Letteri. “Jim’s vision for the world of Pandora was always so much bigger than what we created for the first film. Helping him expand the language of cinema through new narratives set in such an expansive universe is the type of opportunity that rarely comes along twice. Projects »

You might not know her by name but you will most likely know her by reputation. She is one of the many actors that takes on parts you recognize immediately but don’t always take into consideration the first time around. Her roles are often those of authority figures and calm, almost maternal characters that are essentially there to bring a bit of order to the scene and instill a sense of rightness to the movie or show. Even if she plays a villain she’s bound to be memorable because of her strong sense of character. Here are a few things

Blu-ray Reviews: Robocop 2 and Robocop 3 Collector’s Editions

6 April 2017 2:32 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Let me get this out of the way up front: I think Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 sci-fi action classic, RoboCop, is a perfect film. With its mix of brilliant social satire, comic book action, dystopian sci-fi, and insane violence—a brilliant blend of ’80s aesthetics, Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner’s sharp script, a perfect cast, and Paul Verhoeven’s particular brand of genius/madness. It is the kind of movie that cannot really be reproduced… though two sequels and a 2014 remake certainly gave it a shot. That each came up short in different ways comes as no surprise. It only offers proof of the original movie’s magical alchemy.

Though they are disappointing in comparison to RoboCop, both of its initial sequels—1990’s RoboCop 2, directed by Irvin Kershner, and the Fred Dekker-helmed RoboCop 3 from 1993—attempt to replicate different aspects of the original and are not without some amount of charm, »

Blu-ray Review – RoboCop 3: Collector’s Edition (1993)

25 March 2017 2:20 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

RoboCop 3: Collector’s Edition, 1993.

Directed by Fred Dekker.

Starring Robert John Burke, Nancy Allen, Rip Torn, John Castle, Jill Hennessy, C.C.H. Pounder, Mako Iwamatsu, Robert DoQui, and Bruce Locke.

Shout! Factory has released a Collector’s Edition of RoboCop 2, so it’s not a surprise that they did the same for the third installment, which ended the series with a whimper, rather than a bang. Fans, though, will appreciate the nice audio-visual presentation, as well as the included bonus features.

Sometimes a movie, no matter how successful it is, doesn’t really need a sequel. Or the filmmakers may end up exploring all their premise has to offer after two installments. Of course, such considerations bear just about zero weight in Hollywood, where every studio needs as many franchises as it can handle. And sometimes those movie franchise ends up like the fast food franchises that sell the same bland stuff to everyone. »

'NCIS: New Orleans' Interview: Cch Pounder on Wade's Past, Sebastian's New Job and More

20 February 2017 3:16 AM, PST | | See recent BuddyTV news »

NCIS: New Orleans' "End of the Line" is going to bring up painful memories from Wade's past when a gruesome copycat murder on a streetcar reopens a former case. BuddyTV spoke to Cch Pounder to find out what to expect from this case.

"It was really nice for me to do something other than move a dead body," the actress shared when teasing the episode that sees a different side of Wade. And speaking of doing something different, while she pointed out that the nature of the crossovers doesn't allow for them to use the MEs that much since they're mostly about the action and chasing down someone, she'd love to "ruffle Mark Harmon's feathers because he's always been a very calm and steady character."
