Great Job, Internet!: Let’s gaze into the abyss of movies with 0 percent Rotten Tomatoes ratings

9 June 2017 9:40 AM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

There are two types of bad movies: The ones the zeitgeist deems bad (like, say, The Room, Birdemic, or Academy Award winner Crash) or the ones the critics refuse to adorn with their approval. The following video is concerned with the latter, though there is a little overlap with the former, if only for the fact that movies like Manos: Hands Of Fate never culled a sizable amount of reviews.

This Looper video listicle compiles 10 films currently holding a 0 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. There are a few easy targets in there—Manos, obviously, as well as that ubiquitous staple of shit cinema, Mac And Me—but there’s also a few would-be blockbusters and some forgotten symbols of misguided ambition.

For example: Have you even heard of 1981’s Heartbeeps, the robot-centric comedy starring Andy Kaufman, Bernadette Peters, and “a garbage child robot”? Or Roller Boogie, the ...

Emmy Contenders 2017: Supporting Actress in a Comedy

Kate McKinnon took the prize last year and could repeat her win, thanks to several memorable “SNL” episodes that saw her reprise Hillary Clinton in the heat of the election, not to mention her touching Leonard CohenHallelujah” tribute. With the exception of Niecy Nash (“Getting On”), all of last year’s nominees are eligible this year: Mayim Bialik (“The Big Bang Theory”), Anna Chlumsky (“Veep”) and Gaby Hoffmann and Judith Light (“Transparent”). And while they missed out on a nod last year, never count out previous nominees Jane Krakowski (who married David Cross on this season of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”) and Julie Bowen, who already has a pair of Emmys for her “Modern Family” role. There’s also Bowen’s co-star Sofia Vergara, who has four previous nominations for her role. Among the fresh possibilities are living legend Rita Moreno for her turn on the well-received “One Day at a Time” reboot and Molly Shannon for »

HBO’s upcoming original drama series “The Deuce,” created by David Simon and George Pelecanos (“The Wire”), follows the rise of the porn industry in gritty 1970s New York. The show begins its eight-episode run on September 10, and the pilot premiered this Friday night at IFC Center’s inaugural Split Screens TV Festival, with producer and star Maggie Gyllenhaal, director Michelle MacLaren, and Pelecanos in attendance.

“We had no burning desire to do a show about porn,” Pelecanos said during the panel. “It’s been done before. But the characters were too rich to ignore.”

‘Animaniacs’: The 12 Characters Who Need to Return to the Revival, Ranked

‘The Good Fight’ Finale: Robert & Michelle King Talk Law, Disorder and Plans for Season 2 (Spoilers)

16 April 2017 6:10 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

“There’s a whole lot of people who want to see this country fail, Diane,” Adrian Boseman tells Diane Lockhart in the season finale of “The Good Fight.”

Spoiler alert: Do not read until you’ve watch the season finale of “The Good Fight,” titled “Chaos.”

The spinoff of “The Good Wife” concludes its first season with a strong episode, “Chaos,” that does a good job of capturing the unsettled, post-election moment. Protesters are screaming in the streets, hackers are running amok, fake news is pervasive, Internet trolls are malicious and government is overtaxed at best and corrupt at worst.

“It feels like something’s come detached — like a piece of machinery that doesn’t sound right,” Boseman says.

In this environment, it’s a gift to have “Good Fight” to pick up the mantle of its predecessor and offer an entertaining and thought-provoking weekly look at defense lawyers who are basically trying to do the right »

TCM Film Festival 2017 Recap

Once again, Wamg attended the 2017 Turner Classic Movie Film Festival in Hollywood, and as always, it did not disappoint!

Ahhh…so many movies, so little time to cover everything, but here are some highlights of my favorite movies of this year’s festival.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)

Shown poolside at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, this classic was perfect for opening night. Brightly colored inflatable balls and lights floated in the pool like some of Wonka’s best candies as guests enjoyed snacks and cocktails on a beautiful spring evening. In attendance for this special screening were some of the cast members of the original movie. Miss Veruca Salt herself, Julie Dawn Cole; Mike Teevee, also known as Paris Themmen; and one of the original Oompaloompas, Rusty Goffe.

Along with host Illeana Douglas, they recounted some great memories of being on the set of the film in Germany more than 45 years ago. »

‘The Good Fight’: Christine Baranski and Partners Toast ‘Good Wife’ Spinoff at New York Premiere

9 February 2017 12:26 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Christine Baranski was hard to miss on Wednesday evening at the premiere screening and party for “The Good Fight,” the spinoff of CBS’ beloved “The Good Wife” that is set to bow Feb. 19 on CBS All Access.

The star of “Good Fight” sparkled in a shimmery silver and black minidress that accentuated her long and lean frame and turned her into a walking spotlight at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall. The extra glow was fitting for the occasion because Baranski commands the stage in the spinoff that revolves around her Diane Lockhart character from “The Good Wife,” rebuilding her life after a series of unfortunate events befall the rock-ribbed legal eagle.

The first episode was well received by a roomful of “Good Wife” lovers. There was almost an audible sigh of relief when “Good Fight” quickly settled into the distinctive blend of drama and comedy that enlivened its predecessor for seven seasons.
