SAG-aftra Election Ballots Go Out Against Backdrop of Contract Ratification

18 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

About 144,000 SAG-aftra election ballots have started hitting performers’ mailboxes this week — only one week after union members were asked to ratify a three-year successor deal to the master contract.

As a result, the question of whether to ratify the contract is the key issue among presidential candidates. Current SAG-aftra president Gabrielle Carteris, who heads the moderate Unite for Strength faction, has strongly endorsed the deal while Esai Morales and stuntman Peter Antico are pushing for a “No” vote.

The union reached a deal with Hollywood producers on July 4. The new deal, if ratified, provides for $256 million in increased pay over the three years with minimums increasing by 2.5% in the first year, 3% in the second year, and 3% in the third year. Employers will also provide a 0.5% hike in contributions paid to the SAG pension plan and AFTRA retirement fund in the first year of the agreement along with “significant” improvements in the residuals rate paid by streaming platforms »

12 July 2017 10:23 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

SAG-aftra president Gabrielle Carteris is running for re-election on the Unite for Strength slate.

The move, which was expected, was officially announced on Wednesday. Ballots will go out to union members on July 25 and the results will be announced on Aug. 24. The union has about 160,000 members.

Carteris was voted in as president unanimously by the SAG-aftra national board in April, 2016, to fill out the remaining 16 months of the late Ken Howard’s term. She had been elected executive vice-president at SAG-aftra’s biennial convention in 2015.

Carteris will be running against two already-announced candidates, Membership First’s Esai Morales and stuntman Peter Antico. Morales has held off on disclosing his platform since his June 13 announcement.

Additionally, Jason George is running for Unite For Strength for the secretary-treasurer post against incumbent Jane Austin, who’s Morales’ running mate.

Carteris chaired the union’s negotiating committee in the bargaining for a successor deal to the SAG-aftra master contract covering primetime »

"The images feel more real in 3D. There's a lucidity to it, you really feel like you're there." Distrib Films Us has debuted a second official trailer for the forthcoming re-release of James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgment Day in 3D. The 3D upgrade was overseen by Cameron himself, as well as Dmg Entertainment and StudioCanal, so rest assured it will be top quality. This trailer is similar to the first trailer, but includes clips of Cameron talking about how great the 3D looks, and how cool it is to go back and revisit this movie in 3D some 25 years later. "It looks pretty spectacular." However, this trailer is only available in 2D. This sci-fi action classic stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, Robert Patrick, Earl Boen, and Joe Morton. I still don't know if I really want to see this in 3D or not. Great Job, Internet!: The machines have won and Terminator 2 has been remade in Grand Theft Auto V

26 May 2017 9:04 AM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

There is really never a bad time to rewatch one of the first two Terminator movies, a pair of classic ur-texts in sci-fi action that humanity has really only matched, never bettered. So this hour-long, slightly slimmed-down recreation of T2: Judgment Day within Grand Theft Auto V is a great way to spend a portion of this holiday weekend, assuming you get over the fact that it was made by machines.

Sure: Technically, a human modder went through creating character models, sets, camera placements, and cuts in order to recreate James Cameron’s classic 1991 movie. But then, as that very film details, even a human invented Skynet. Really, what this represents is an early triumph of the machines over man, proof that even our classic anti-machine cinema is prone to machination. Machinima Robert Patrick is actually a pretty good evolution of the T-1000, and the Nathan Drake character model »

At the time it was released in 1991, T2 was the most expensive film ever made with a budget of $102 million. The use of CGI on Robert Patrick’s advanced liquid metal T-1000 pushed the envelope of what could be done with computer enhanced technology and graphics, arguably paving the way for improved graphics in films and even motion capture performances. In its original run, the Terminator sequel made $520 million worldwide and went on to collect four technical Oscars at the Academy Awards.

First Trailer for James Cameron’s 3D Re-Release of ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’

4 May 2017 2:36 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

James Cameron sure does love 3D movies. So much so that he’s personally going back and converting his older films into the format himself. He converted Titanic into 3D back in 2012, and now here comes Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Cameron’s 1991 blockbuster sequel to his 1984 film The Terminator boasted groundbreaking special effects and became one of the most popular action movies of all time, and if all you thought the film was missing was some eye-popping 3D, you’re in luck.

Converting Terminator 2 into 3D has been on Cameron’s to-do list for a while now. Back when the filmmaker was converting Titanic into immersive 3D he spoke with The New York Times about tackling T2: “I think the true and correct use of the conversion technology is for movies that are already done and are already beloved films. I want to do it with Titanic, maybe I »
