The first look of Benjamin Bratt as Sofia Vergara's on-screen ex-husband on "Modern Family" has been shared. The actor who finished his commitment on "The Cleaner" when the show was axed earlier this year, will guest star as the brilliant father that Manny often raves on in one episode.
The character is named Javier and through the promotional photos, he will visit his ex-wife and son who now live with Jay Pritchett. Javier was often mentioned in previous episodes as a great but irresponsible husband and father. He once promised to take Manny out for a trip but got him waiting before canceling.
"Up All Night" will air on Wednesday, January 6 as the first episode in 2010. Gloria is less than pleased with Jay's reaction to the arrival of Javier, Manny's infamously unreliable dad. Meanwhile, Phil is suffering from kidney stones and his dramatics leave Claire no other choice but »

One of my favorite character actors will be guesting on an upcoming episode of Modern Family, Chazz Palminteri. And for a change of pace, Chazz will not be toting a gun. Instead he'll be swinging a golf club, and unless the sitcom takes a radically wicked turn, I don't think Chazz will be taking swings at Ed O'Neill's head.
On the other hand, things can get pretty intense on the links. In the episode, Chazz is golfing with Ed's character, Jay, and somehow the relationship between Cameron and Mitchell comes into play and there's a big gay understanding... or is that a misunderstanding?

He isn't exactly known for his comedic timing, but that may soon change now that Chazz Palminteri has lined up a role on Modern Family.
The movie actor, who often plays a mobster, will square off against Jay on the golf course in a winter episode that involves Mitchell, Cameron and a major gay understanding.
Benjamin Bratt has also agreed to a guest-starring role on the hilarious sitcom.

Chazz Palminteri, a man who would surely be a Mafiosi if your career was based solely on looks, is set to write and co-produce Wall Street Mafia, a film that would appear to cross Wall Street with Goodfellas, with just a dash of The Firm. And there's literally no part of that that doesn't sound good. The film follows a young stockbroker from Brooklyn who joins a big brokerage firm in Manhattan and probably expects a life full of hookers and champagne and big shiny penis extensions sports cars. Instead, he finds himself caught between the FBI and the Mafia, with the former investigating the latter's infiltration into the world of high finance. The latter bit is based on a true story; we're guessing that the broker himself may be fictional.Palminteri may also star on the film, but that isn't yet confirmed - nor, as far as we can tell, »

Chicago – Welcome back to the Round-Up, a safety net to catch the DVD titles that fell off the mainstream tightrope. The titles this week have virtually nothing in common other than coming in two waves from two studios - a pair of classics from Paramount’s Centennial Collection and a trio of indie films from the great Magnolia Pictures.
All five titles were released on May 19th, 2009.

Photo credit: Paramount Synopsis: “”This is the West, sir. When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.” Behind the camera? Gambling and heist movies have an established place within the drama and thriller world. Audiences swooned for the Rat Pack in the original Ocean’s 11, and they did again when George Clooney and Brad Pitt took over the game. But not all gambling films are the same – there’s a sharp rift dividing the two types. In one, the heist is glamorized, the stars are sexy and the end result is a celebration of wit and elaborate planning. The other half easily ranks as the more interesting of the two; in it a down on his luck gambler goes after his last shot to make it big. The Good Thief with Nick Nolte and Rounders with Matt Damon keep you rooting for the underdog as he attempts to climb out of the hole circumstance has dug for him. Yonkers Joe continues this tradition and cuts closer to The Good Thief »

Fifteen years ago no one in the movie business wanted Chazz Palminteri. Well, they wanted his hit one-man stage show about his coming of age in the Bronx, but they didn't want him to write the screenplay or star in the picture. Then, one night, an actor who had been looking for just the right project for his directorial debut—fella by the name of Robert De Niro—came backstage. »

The Independent Spirit award is supposed to salute what past ceremony host Samuel L. Jackson once called "the strange, the weird, the eclectic, the visionary, the new blood." Ideally, its purpose is to help those low-profile quality films that could use a boost so that someday, maybe, the filmmakers and performers could compete in the big league of the Oscars.
And back when the Spirits took flight, they tried hard to keep to that mission. Indeed, its first best-picture winner in 1985, "After Hours," wasn't nominated for a single Oscar. But then "Platoon" won best pic at both the Spirits and the Oscars the next year. From then on, the Spirits focused more and more on seemingly academy-friendly films, with a corresponding increase in its own profile. While 1987 best-pic winner "River's Edge" was snubbed at the Oscars, other early champs made it into Oscar categories like screenplay ("sex, lies and videotape, »

Shia Labeouf and Robert Downey Jr. play Dito at two stages of his life: as a sensitive teen dreaming of escaping the dead-end violence around him, and as an adult who returns to see his father (Chazz Palminteri) after a 15-year absence.
The film also focuses on Dito’s family, childhood sweetheart, and friends, who all must manage »

"A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints" The Limited Edition DVD Review.by Peter Dimako, Editor. Powerful and impressive, “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints” marks one of the best directorial debuts one can find. Dito Montiel, writer of the book, adapts and helms this gritty, well-acted and touching story based on his own life. It’s been three years since the film won both the Directing Award (Dramatic) and the Special Jury Prize for the best ensemble performance. “Saints” follows the life of young and older Dito with Shia Labeouf and Robert Downey Jr. sharing the lead. It’s 2005 and Dieto (Downey Jr.) is asked to talk about his wonderful new book, taking viewers back to Astoria, Queens, N.Y., 1986 in one of the toughest neighborhoods (brought to life with ease by Montiel). Young Dito (Labeouf) and best friends Antonio (Channing Tatum) and Nerf (Peter Anthony Tambakis) go by their every-day existence with, »

Jan 13, 2009 Hollywood has long been obsessed with the aging con man. It’s ironic but all actors of a certain age inevitably play a cop looking to close one last case or a criminal looking to get one last score. The title character in Yonkers Joe is the latter, a guy who is cut from an old-fashioned cloth of con men and who struggles with the iron-clad security of modern casinos. Joe (Chazz Palminteri) is a dice man. Within the blink of an eye, he can replace the dice at a ...Read more at MovieRetriever.com »

Something about Yonkers Joe bugged me.
Don't get me wrong; it was a very well-made and well-acted film, with a very touching story about fathers, sons, and the difficulties of raising special needs kids. It's got two stars, Chazz Palminteri and Christine Lahti, that give their usual solid performances. And it even has a story that's got some nice tension and is emotionally satisfying.
But something bugged me. And I couldn't put my finger on why until the very end, but when I did, it made my discomfort crystal clear: This guy's a crook. Why should I care about him at all?Filed under: Drama, Theatrical Reviews
