Numb3rs: CBS Cuts Season Order; Will it be Cancelled?

5 November 2009 12:11 PM, PST | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

While some shows are getting orders for additional episodes, Numb3rs has just had its number cut by CBS. How does this bode for the drama's chances for a seventh season?

As Friday night viewers know, Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.

The series is currently in its sixth season, having debuted in January 2005. For the show's entire run, it's been a staple of CBS' Friday night schedule in the 10pm position.

In its first season, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the demo and 11.1 million viewers. In season two, the show's ratings rose to an average rating of 3.3 and 11.7 million viewers. Overall »

'Numb3rs' Down for the Count?

4 November 2009 6:24 PM, PST | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

If you'll forgive me for the bad pun in the title of this article, then we can move on to the big news, and that is that things aren't looking good for Numb3rs. The CBS crime procedural, which stars Rob Morrow as an FBI agent and David Krumholtz as his mathematical genius brother, is looking toward an impending cancellation. The sixth season of the drama was originally set for twenty-two episodes, but CBS has recently shaved off six episodes of that for a sixteen-episode season, says the Hollywood Reporter.

While no decision has been made about the show's future past the sixteen episodes, ratings have been dismal for the Friday show. The most recent episode of the show only averaged a 1.7 rating/6 share among adults 18-49 and 7.9 million viewers overall.

There are plenty of potential replacements for Numb3rs on cue at CBS — the Canadian procedural Flashpoint is especially a strong replacement possibility, »

CBS cuts 'Numbers' order

4 November 2009 12:00 PM, PST | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Are "Numbers'" days numbered?

CBS has opted to cut back the order for the veteran crime procedural from 22 to 16 episodes.

Friday nights have taken a big ratings hit this fall, and "Numbers," now in its sixth season, has been no exception. Last week, the drama starring Rob Morrow and David Krumholtz averaged a 1.7 rating/6 share among adults 18-49 and 7.9 million viewers overall.

Additionally, CBS has a couple of drama series on tap for midseason, including another crime procedural, Canadian co-production "Flashpoint," which has performed well on Fridays.

As for "Numbers' " future, a rep for CBS said no decision has been made.

But with the series, from sibling CBS TV Studios, already secured a syndication run, continuing it at the high cost associated with a long-running drama is considered unlikely. »

CBS Shortens Its Numb3rs Order

4 November 2009 11:37 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Things don't seem to be adding up in favor of a new season for a long-running CBS procedural. According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS has shortened its order for Numb3rs from 22 episodes to 16.

While the network wouldn't officially say if the series would be canceled or not, the shortened season is not a good sign. The series, now airing its sixth season, has been slipping in the ratings this year, although practically all Friday night shows across the board have seen declining ratings.

CBS does have a few new drama series it plans to debut during midseason, including another police procedural, Flashpoint. We'll be sure to keep you posted on the fate of Numb3rs, which stars Rob Morrow and David Krumholtz, as soon as we have more information.

Battlestar Vet Goes Very, Very Bad for Numbers Finale

15 May 2009 9:14 AM, PDT | TVGuide.com - Features | See recent TVGuide - Features news »

Guest star James Callis (Battlestar Galactica's Dr. Gaius Baltar) plus a straggly wig and a dash of Charles Manson adds up to a very chilling episode of CBS' Numbers, as the hit CBS drama winds down its fifth season. The British actor offered a look inside the creation of the charismatic sociopath who dared to abduct Charlie's sweetheart, Amita. TVGuide.com: Rob Morrow had told me you were virtually unrecognizable in this role, and I have to wholeheartedly agree.

James Callis: How great is that?

TVGuide.com: Have you ever been this hirsute?

Callis: I think I have been hairier, possibly, in a few other gigs. But half of that was mine and half was borrowed. I bet you could tell which half was which! [The producers and I] were of the same mindset that ...

Hilary Duff Is Barely Legal -- And just so you know, we would have also accepted 'barely talented'

12 January 2009 | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

NBC is developing its second legally-based comedy of the season with "Barely Legal", a half hour series set to star Hilary Duff. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Duff will portray Kathleen Holtz – a young woman who passed the California State Bar Exam in 2007 at age 18. This achievement made Holtz California's youngest practicing lawyer – although the fact that she sold her story to Hollywood so quickly probably means she's not actually "practicing" at the moment. "Barely Legal" was developed by "Northern Exposure" alum Rob Morrow and has received a script commitment from NBC. Clearly the network is hoping for a "Legally Blonde" sized hit. Oh hell, even a "Boston Legal" sized hit would be welcome at the network at the moment, which is probably why David E Kelley's "Boston" follow-up "Legally Mad" has also gotten the go-ahead »

'Barely Legal' passes the bar at NBC

11 January 2009 6:00 PM, PST | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

NBC loves shows about young female lawyers this development season.

On the heels of the pilot order for David E. Kelley's legal dramedy "Legally Mad," the network has picked up for development "Barely Legal," a half-hour comedy based on the true story of Kathleen Holtz, who in November 2007 passed the notoriously difficult California bar at age 18 to become the state's youngest lawyer.

She would be played by Hilary Duff, who has come on board as part of her talent deal with the network and Universal Media Studios.

"Barely," which has received a script commitment, hails from actor Rob Morrow, who developed the project through his company Bits and Pieces Prods. and is exec producing.

Elisa Bell ("Little Black Book") is penning the project, which is being produced by Ums.

Duff, Morrow, Bell and Holtz are repped by Wma. Duff is managed by Curtis Talent, Morrow by the Hofflund Co. »
