First Look: Kevin Smith’s ‘A Couple of Dicks’

2 July 2009 1:12 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

Mallrats, Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma, blah, blah, blah. Yet there’s a dark little place in my heart that secretly loves Jersey Girl.  There, I said it. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I am intrigued (and a little tickled) by the prospect of the new Kevin Smith film, A Couple of Dicks.

I hesitate to prematurely pass judgment on the film based merely on its pedigree, but given Smith’s track record, and the cast of Dicks, February of 2010 has more to look forward to than Martin Luther King, groundhogs, and chocolate hearts.

ComingSoon has revealed the latest photos from A Couple of Dicks, which currently filming in Brooklyn.  These new production pictures feature the film’s stars, Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan, as well as one of the newest additions to the cast,  Michelle Trachtenberg (Harriet the Spy,  Eurotrip).  Also featured in the movie are Jason Lee,

Drake’s ‘Best I Ever Had’ Video Begs The Question: What About Cassie Steele?

2 July 2009 7:41 AM, PDT | From MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news

Drake’s new Kanye West-directed video “Best I Ever Had” premiered this morning. It casts Young Money Entertainment’s latest signee as the coach of some sort of team made up entirely of buxom young women. The much-buzzed-about rapper has come along way from his breakthrough role as Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi: The Next Generation and stands to make a big splash when his album Thank Me Later drops later this year.

But he’s not the first Degrassi veteran to reach for musical stardom. That title belongs to Cassie Steele, who played Manny Santos on the show and is about to release her second album Destructo Doll. While Drake went the hip-hop route, Steele is a singer-songwriter with a rock edge, not unlike a groovier version of fellow Canadian Alanis Morissette. While Steele hasn’t made a splash in the U.S., her first album How Much For

Ed McMahon’s Legacy: Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake And Aaliyah

24 June 2009 12:27 PM, PDT | From MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news

Britney Spears took to Twitter to remember the late Ed McMahon, who was the host of “Star Search” when Spears first appeared singing on TV in 1992. Britney didn’t win, though her performance did help her get a spot on “The Mickey Mouse Club,” which jumpstarted her whirlwind career.

Spears isn’t the only “Star Search” veteran to go on to bigger and better things, though. Here are some of the other superstars who got a little help from Ed McMahon.

» Justin Timberlake: Timberlake is an incredible entertainer, capable of singing, dancing, acting, writing comedy and directing. But did you know he can also line dance? Timberlake (performing as Justin Randall) performed a country song on the show in 1993, complete with cowboy hat and boots. It didn’t get him the win, but it’s probably the last time in his life where he didn’t come out on top.

Weeds' Justin Kirk Dishes on Alanis Morissette, a Surprising Return and More

22 June 2009 12:15 PM, PDT | From E! Online | See recent E! Online news

With Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker) knocked up with a drug lord's son, the D.A. out to get her, and Celia (Elizabeth Perkins) stuck in Mexico with no apparent way out, this season looks bleak for the Ren Mar-via-Agrestic clan. "We've become a pretty bleak show, which I like," says Justin Kirk, who plays Andy Botwin. "I think it's kind of fun. I don't see a lot of hope, but we do have another season, so I'm guessing we're not going down in a hail of bullets any time soon." No hail of bullets, maybe, but a ton of personal drama goes down as the season unfolds, and Justin was kind enough to fill us in a bit… Before we get to Weeds, what made you decide to do...

Beyoncé’s Tour Opener In New York: Five Things You Might Have Missed

22 June 2009 10:00 AM, PDT | From MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news

By Daniela Capistrano

Last night, Sasha Fierce made her triumphant return to the States with a performance at Madison Square Garden in New York. By now you’ve already heard about Beyoncé’s insanely talented, guitar slinging all-female band for this tour, her Brüno-inspired (and more gracefully executed) acrobatics and the appearance by hubby Jay-z during last night’s opening number, “Crazy in Love.”

I know, I know — “Yawn! What else happened?”

Luckily, I’m a fan with an eye for details, so I’ve done my best to extract five highlights you might have missed from over two hours of mind-blowing Beyoncé-ness.

Enjoy!

» The Fierce Fashion: Audiences have French artist and designer Thierry Mugler to thank for the stylish singer’s tour wardrobe. His designs embrace the two personas on stage: Beyoncé’s Bottecelli goddess and the leather-clad glamazon Sasha Fierce. I counted no less than ten costume changes,

New York — Beyoncé sure knows how to get things started.

The sultry singer appeared at Madison Square Garden on Sunday for her I Am... tour and was joined by Jay-z for the night's very first song: The married power couple performed a medley of their hits "Crazy in Love" and "I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me)."

The crowd roared when Jay's "Crazy in Love" verse came up, but then the music swiftly changed to the Neptunes' spacey production of the rapper's hit. Jay, decked out in dark denim, black hat, jacket, T-shirt, shades and matching Air Yeezys, ran onto the stage moments into the show, surprising the barely settled audience. From the looks of it, Jay was

Update: Captions added along with six new stills.

In June of last year we posted a piece on John Alan Simon's adaptation of Philip K Dick's Radio Free Albemuth wondering where it was. Since then, I've had a phone conversation with the director who told me the reason that it's taking so long is that they want to do it right, low budget and all. I know they've redone the cgi for the satellite multiple times and all in all, he says he'd rather take his time then put out crap. Well it's getting close folks, he tells me they are a month or two away from a finished product and we're quite excited. The film stars Alanis Morissette as Sylvia (which he tells me is perfect for her role), Ashley Greene as Rhonda, Jonathan Scarfe as Nicholas Brady, Shea Whigham as Phil, Katheryn Winnick as Rachel Brady, Hanna Hall as Vivian Kaplan,

Mary-Louise Parker Previews Weeds: Nancy's "Going Down"

5 June 2009 2:44 PM, PDT | From TVGuide - Breaking News | See recent TVGuide.com - Breaking News news

Last we saw Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker), she narrowly escaped getting gunned down by Mexican drug kingpin Esteban (aka the mayor of Tijuana, aka her boyfriend) by producing a sonogram that appeared to show that the would-be turncoat was with child! As Season 5 of Weeds premieres (Monday at 10 pm/Et), Nancy's delicate state might have kept her safe in the short run, but not without its own set of complications. Parker tells us what she thinks of Nancy, ponders how far she'll fall this season, and surveys sisterhood with Jennifer Jason Leigh and the relative cleanliness of Alanis Morissette.

Summer 2009 TV Preview

25 May 2009 7:28 PM, PDT | From AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news

Lesbian/bi visibility on primetime American television this summer is not much better than it is the rest of the year — which is to say, it's pretty slim pickings.

Among the shows premiering or returning in the next few weeks, there are a few with supporting lesbian/bi characters (Mental, The Closer); one with an out actress in a supporting role (Hawthorne); and a reality show featuring two out female contestants (Top Chef Master).

Here's a review of the pilot or first new episode(s) of all four series, and a short list of the premiere/air dates of other shows that may interest you.

Warning: some mild spoilers, but no major plot points revealed

Mental (Drama, Fox)

Dates: Tuesdays at 9pm Pst/Est, premiering May 26

Napster Returns as Best Buy's Streaming Music Muscle

18 May 2009 6:30 AM, PDT | From Fast Company | See recent Fast Company news

Napster, the original file-sharing site that set the digital music world into a tailspin, is making yet another phoenix-like return to life from the ashes of its former self. This time it's as a music streaming site, and it's got Best Buy's muscle behind it.

Best Buy purchased Napster for $121 million in September of last year from former owners Roxio, and took until today to reinvent the site. The new, U.S.-only Napster doesn't let you download MP3 files, it streams them to your computer, live. Before you start thinking that sounds like a rip-off, consider this: It costs just $5 per month for an unlimited number of streams. And you get to keep five of the tracks as CD-quality downloads for as long as you like.

That's bound to earn the interest of the other big MP3-store players, including Apple, Amazon, eMusic, and possibly Microsoft (the Zune Pass

Five Movies That Are Just As Blasphemous As ‘Angels & Demons’

15 May 2009 11:00 AM, PDT | From MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news

by John Constantine

Dan Brown’s “Angels & Demons” is a gripping tale in which a Harvard professor works to derail an Illuminati plot to blow up the Vatican. No problems with that, right Pope? Not blowing up is a good thing, even if Professor Langdon (Tom Hanks) wants to fling open some of your more skeleton-filled closets in the process!

Well… no. That’s actually sort of a big problem, the whole hidden secrets being brought to light angle. Enough of a problem to have earned the film adaptation of “Angels” an official ban from the highest church. Which isn’t to say that this is the only example out there of blasphemous filmmaking. Check out these Hell-bound gems of the silver screen.

If there’s one thing the Vatican hates, it’s imitators. “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image” and all that jazz.
