It still amazes me how big Downton Abbey has become. The fact that it was even included in Iron Man 3 was surprising and funny. I didn't jump on board the bandwagon until right before season 3 was released. I was surprised by how addictive the show is. It's just a beautiful setting with great characters. Anyway, PBS has announced that season 4 will premiere on January 5th and run through February 23rd.
Shirley MacLaine is reprising her role as Martha Levinson, Cora's (Elizabeth McGovern) mother, and there are going to be some new faces in the cast. That includes Tom Cullen as Lord Gillingham, a Crawley family friend whose history with Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) goes back to childhood; Nigel Harman as a visiting valet named Green; and Dame Harriet Walter as Lady Shackleton, a friend of the Dowager (Maggie Smith).
I'm curious how many of our readers watch Downton Abbey. »

The actor left the series behind last year to pursue other opportunities.
“We were always optioned for three years,” Stevens told The Telegraph in December. “And when that came up it was a very difficult decision. But it felt like a good time to take stock, »

The fourth season of PBS Masterpiece’s “Downton Abbey” will premiere in the U.S. on Jan. 5 and run for eight weeks.
PBS also announced that it had acquired the third season of BBC Worldwide’s “Call the Midwife,” as well as the first season of British drama “Last Tango in Halifax,” starring Derek Jacobi.
A January premiere Stateside for “Downton” is typical for the cross-the-pond hit, but has become increasingly controversial because of spoilers coming over from the U.K., where each season launches the previous fall. The season-four premiere of “Downton Abbey” in Blighty is scheduled for September.
Interestingly, the season-four finale on PBS will come Feb. 23, the same night as the closing ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics on NBC — a night that most broadcasters are shying away from in terms of scheduling. This year, the “Downton” season finale was the top-rated show on television in its timeslot, »

ITV announced Carr's Season 4 casting. Carr's jazz singer character is described as a "charming and charismatic young man."

Watergate Remembered in Discovery Channel Documentary 'Celebrating' the 40th Anniversary of the Watergate Scandal The Washington Post and American journalistic ethics in general may be only a shadow of what they once were -- and most of the U.S. press was never really all that great or even borderline trustworthy to begin with -- but Robert Redford remains the same, glimpsed here with Watergate investigators Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward, and former Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee, shot (not literally) by Annie Leibovitz. Pictured above: Redford with Bernstein, Bradlee, and Woodward in the iconic Washington Post newsroom. The four veterans got together to promote the Discovery Channel doc All the President’s Men Revisited, about the 40th anniversary of the Watergate scandal that destroyed the Nixon presidency. With Redford as one of its executive producers, the documentary airs this month. Redford played Woodward opposite Dustin Hoffman's Bernstein in »

This week on DVD/Blu-ray: One of the most divisive movies to play at Sundance in ages; a documentary sure to infuriate and enlighten in equal measure; Andrew Dominik's long-awaited follow-up to "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford"; one of last year's big success stories on the foreign film front; and a period pic starring Elizabeth McGovern sure to appeal to all her "Downton Abbey" fans.1. "The Comedy" There was no film more love-it-or-hate-it at Sundance last year than "The Comedy." Indiewire's Eric Kohn, for one, loves it. In his glowing review from Park City, he wrote: "There's little conventionally funny about 'The Comedy,' but its status as a provocation is a grand joke. Director Rick Alverson ('New Jerusalem') has made a one-of-a-kind portrait of pathologically insecure and over-priviledged hipsters, crafting the finest awkward-bizarre character study since Ronald Bronstein's 'Frownland. »

Among the Downton Abbey lot who made it out Thursday were Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Carmichael, Sophie McShera, Lesley Nicol and Brendan Coyle. Lady Cora's scheming maid, Sarah O'Brien, is departing "Downton Abbey."
A rep for Masterpiece confirmed to AccessHollywood.com that the maid to Cora Crowley, The Countess of Grantham (Elizabeth McGovern), who in Season 3 caused major trouble for Thomas, is leaving Downton to do other things.
But, the rep adds, the door is left open for the character, played by Siobhan Finneran, to return.
Fans who saw the Season 3 finale might have had an inkling that the character was working on her exit plan.

Update: With the ghosts of the characters that left Downton Abbey last year still figuring heavily, a host of new faces is set to grace the halls of the manor. I’ve confirmed that Tom Cullen (Last Days On Mars), Julian Ovenden (Foyle’s War), opera singer Kiri Te Kanawa and Harriet Walter will all have parts in the upcoming season. Previous: Man, when are the Downton Abbey faithful going to catch a break? Siobhan Finneran, who plays maid O’Brien to Elizabeth McGovern’s Lady Cora Crawley, won’t be returning to the hit period drama for Season 4. Although a shadowy character — renown for her ability to perilously position bars of soap, smoke cigarettes ominously and set up nocturnal visits between footmen — O’Brien has figured in many integral storylines over the past three seasons and now becomes the third original player to depart ahead of next season. O'Brien is leaving "Downton Abbey," Masterpiece has confirmed to The Huffington Post ... and unlike Dan Stevens' departure, not many viewers will be sad to see the notoriously catty maid to Lady Grantham (Elizabeth McGovern) go.
"I'm not doing any more," Siobhan Finneran, who played O'Brien, revealed to the Press Association, via HuffPost UK. "O'Brien is a thoroughly despicable human being -- that was great to play."
Though Masterpiece confirmed that O'Brien would not appear in "Downton Abbey" Season 4, the door seems open for her return.
O'Brien has been a love-to-hate character throughout her three seasons on the show, from causing Cora's (Elizabeth McGovern) miscarriage in Season 1 to the bitter feud she had with under-butler Thomas (Rob James-Collier) that led to her outing him in Season 3.
"People actually love that she's a nasty piece of work. They love to dislike her," Finneran told HuffPost TV in January of 2012. "I've always »

O’Brien? More like No-Brien! The actress confirms she won’t be appearing on the show’s fourth season.
Were you hoping Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) would eventually learn the truth about how O’Brien (Siobhan Finneran) caused her miscarriage, resulting in an epic confrontation? Sorry to disappoint you, but Siobhan has confirmed to The Huffington Post UK that everyone’s least-favorite bang-sporting maid will not be on Downton Abbey when the show returns for season four.
“I’m not doing any more,” she told the site. “O’Brien is a thoroughly despicable human being — that was great to play.”
The news was futher confirmed by a spokesperson from the show.
But don’t worry; though Siobhan is moving out of the abbey, she won’t be leaving television completely. She has an upcoming role on The Syndicate, which will air on BBC1.
