We’ll be the first to admit that we weren’t sure what to make of the casting of Mr. Robot star Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury in the upcoming biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. But after seeing the actor in action thanks to a recent set video (seen above), we can safely say that 20th Century Fox picked the right man for the job.
While we don’t know too much about the film just yet, it will reportedly spotlight “a 15-year period, starting in 1970 when Mercury met his bandmates, up through their legendary Live Aid performance in 1985.” Now, with production well underway, the rest of the cast is starting to assemble and today, Deadline brings word that a key role has been filled. That’d be the part of Jim Hutton, Freddie’s boyfriend.

One week on from that stunning reveal of Malek in costume as Queen’s lead singer, and we now have some behind-the-scenes footage from Bohemian Rhapsody that shows the 36-year-old recreate Mercury’s memorable performance at Live Aid. Sporting that signature white vest and blue jeans ensemble, the attention to detail here is uncanny. Freddie Mercury was always known and loved for his flamboyant stage persona, and that’s something Rami Malek recreates almost perfectly up above, jogging onto the faux stage and gesturing to the crowd, before sitting next to the grand piano.

Last Week, the production team behind the upcoming Queen movie, titled Bohemian Rhapsody, released a first look at Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury in honor of the late singer's 71st birthday. And now we have our first peek at some video footage of Malek doing a stunning job impersonating Mercury on stage for the reenactment of the Live Aid concert scene. The image that was released was amazing, but this new video footage has to be seen to believe as Malek nails Mercury's mannerisms, even down to his piano playing style.
The brief video clip comes to us via Nelson Carvajal's Vimeo page and it features a side-by-side view of the real Live Aid footage from 1985 and the new footage shot from the set of Bohemian Rhapsody. After a breakout role in last year’s Sing Street, Lucy Boynton is returning to the world of music with 2018’s Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. The Hollywood Reporter broke the story, revealing that Boynton will portray Mary Austin, the longtime girlfriend of frontman Freddie Mercury.
Austin and Mercury were in a relationship from 1970 to 1976, which ended when she learned that he was homosexual, but the two stayed friends until Mercury’s untimely death in 1991. The iconic artist wrote 1975’s “Love of My Life” about Austin and once called her “the only friend I’ve got” in a 1985 interview.
The film will chronicle Queen’s rise to fame, leading up to the band’s Live Aid performance in 1985 at Wembley Stadium, which many have called the greatest live performance in the history of rock music, thanks to the unparalleled brilliance and electricity of Mercury.
Boynton has also starred in The Blackcoat’s Daughter, »

The movie is directed by Bryan Singer with New Regency and Gk Films as the production companies. Boynton’s upcoming credits include IFC’s “Rebel in the Rye,” Fox’s “Murder on the Orient Express,” and “Apostle.” She was recently seen in “Sing Street.”
Rami Malek is playing Mercury. Ben Hardy, whose credits include “X-Men: Apocalypse” and “Mary Shelley,” will play drummer Roger Taylor. Gwilym Lee (“The Hollow Crown”) will portray lead guitarist Brian May and Joe Mazzello (“The Social Network”) will tackle the role of bass guitarist John Deacon.
