Burn Notice Season 6 Finale Lead In: Reflections and Expectations

20 December 2012 11:01 AM, PST | | See recent news »

The Burn Notice Season 6 Finale has arrived. Tonight we’ll find out what happens to Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan), Sam Axe (Bruce Campbell), Fiona Glenanne (Gabrielle Anwar), Jesse (Coby Bell) and Madeline (Sharon Gless). But first, let’s take a look back at the season and reflect what has worked, what hasn’t worked, and our expectations on tonight’s two-hour finale, “You Can Run….”

Editor’S Pick: Burn Notice Finale Review – The damage is done

What’s worked

• Burn Notice broke out of its safety zone this season by taking Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) away and for a few episodes we got to see Fi in solo action. She still used her wits, creating makeshift weapons, charming the guards and fellow inmates but she didn’t quite have the backup, the car, nor the right pumps to match those orange jumpers.

• The hunt for Anson Fullerton (Jere Burns) took on a more serious tone, »

It's Worth Taking A Trip Back To "Wolf Lake"

4 December 2012 8:16 AM, PST | | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Wolf Lake is a strange show with a slightly bizarre cast. Lou Diamond Phillips, Tim Matheson and Graham Greene more or less star in this mystery series that came out in the wake of The X-Files and other “supernatural”-type shows. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, mind you, as Wolf Lake is one of the stronger shows to come out of that era.

The basic premise is that Phillips’s character, Detective John Kanin, tries to piece his life together after proposing to his girlfriend and having her attacked by a mysterious creature almost immediately after. Returning to his small town of Wolf Lake, Officer Kanin begins investigating his girlfriend’s disappearance after finding only a severed hand at the scene. Kanin discovers that the town is inhabited by werewolves.

Inside Tonight's 'Hart of Dixie'

13 November 2012 8:28 AM, PST | | See recent The Insider news »

Although Bluebell seems to exist in its own reality, the town, much like the real world, is facing a crucial election as Mayor Lavon Hayes runs for re-election against Ruby Jeffries and tonight is time to vote!

The episode, titled I Walk The Line, is doubly special as Tim Matheson, who plays Brick Breeland, also directed the installment And while directing is nothing new to the TV icon (this is his fourth time helming a Dixie ep and he's previously been behind the lens on The West Wing, Suits, White Collar, The Twilight Zone and St. Elsewhere to name a few), prior to Dixie, Tim had never directed and starred on a series before.

Extended Thoughts on ‘The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again’

The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again

Directed by Vincent McEveety

Written by Don Tait

Starring Don Knotts, Tim Conway, Tim Matheson, Elyssa Davalos

I feel like I’m going to turn into a broken record, writing these columns, before the podcast even gets to its 100th episode. I keep coming back to the notion of nostalgia, to whether there is a great amount of inherent value in appreciating something from the past, simply because you liked it in the past. It’s not that I don’t have nostalgia for things I cherished in my childhood, it’s that I don’t let that guide me. For example, though I won’t be writing an extended-thoughts column solely dedicated to it, I imagine the idea of nostalgia will be very strong in relation to the new Disney movie Wreck-It Ralph, which takes place in a fictional video-game arcade with some »

Hart of Dixie Spoilers: Is a Romance About to Be Rekindled in BlueBell?

2 November 2012 9:00 AM, PDT | | See recent news »

A theme that has been running through Hart of Dixie from the beginning is that the past doesn't disappear because you want it to. Your actions and choices follow you wherever you go and it takes a mighty effort in order to get past whatever issues that may be haunting you. For instance, Lemon, George, Wade, and Lavon have spent much of the second season of Hart of Dixie trying to figure out who they are and whether who they were previously is an accurate representation of who they want to be going forward. It's no surprise, then, that a romance from long ago will be rekindled, as growth and the weight of experience can change a dynamic between two people for the better. But who is going to give it another go later this season?

Below are the dates, episode titles, and full episode descriptions of the next two episodes of Hart of Dixie. »

Hart of Dixie Spoilers: George Has a Sleepwalking Problem

10 October 2012 1:50 PM, PDT | | See recent news »

One of the themes of this season of Hart of Dixie is the constant search one has for independence. Dr. Hart, George, and Lemon are each looking to find themselves away from their romantic lives, while Lavon and Ruby strive to find direction in their careers, even if they have to do battle politically to find it. All this maneuvering and the requisite growing pains will be having long-reaching impact on one another and the rest of BlueBell, but at this point, personal evolution might have to trump being the topic of conversation in town for a little while.

Below are the dates, episode titles, and full episode descriptions for the final two Hart of Dixie episodes this month.

Tuesday, October 23rd - "Suspicious Minds"

While Zoe (Rachel Bilson) tries to keep things casual with Wade (Wilson Bethel), she becomes jealous after she sees him with another woman. Zoe decides »

Hart of Dixie Review: Revenge in Bluebell?

9 October 2012 8:11 PM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

"Always on My Mind" was probably one of the funniest Hart of Dixie episodes to date. I don't remember the last time I laughed this hard at the show. It was fun, hilarious and definitely entertaining. Very well done overall.

When the gour started we saw that Zoe and Wade were at it again... well actually, they were just finishing. As much as Zoe won't admit it, she likes her little fling with Wade. Let's all be honest, who wouldn't? Wade Kinsella is one good looking country boy. Wade was right when he said she was addicted.

Throughout this episode the theme seemed to be being the best version of yourself. Lavon was happier around Ruby and vice versa, Rose was trying to make herself content by throwing the BlueBellapalooza, Zoe was attempting to Not have sex with Wade, George was trying to move on, Brick has a new girlfriend, »

With Hart of Dixie Season 2 just one episode old, TV Fanatic has already talked to Scott Porter about life as a single man in Bluebell and to Tim Matheson about Brick entering the dating scene.

Now, Kate Brooks sits down with Cress Williams and talks to the man behind Lavon Hayes about Lavon Hayes running for Mayor again and Lavon Hayes dealing with his high school sweetheart. Read on for our Q&A...

What was it that attracted you to Lavon’s character?

The main thing is that most of the things that I’ve gotten to do over the years have been on the more dramatic side and I love comedy. Throughout my career I haven’t gotten to do a lot of it, so that was one thing was that I was able to explore and do more comedic things. At the start of Hart of Dixie, »

Tim Matheson Speaks on Directing Hart of Dixie, Letting Lemon Go and More

4 October 2012 6:10 AM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

And... we're off on Hart of Dixie Season 2!

Following an entertaining premiere, I jumped on the phone with Tim Matheson (who directed "I Fall to Pieces") and talked to the veteran actor about Brick Breeland; his adoration for Rachel Bilson and Jaime King; as well as my collegiate softball career.

Don't worry, I cut the final part out of the following Q&A. But read on for some fun Hart of Dixie scoop, including whether or not Brick himself will get lucky this fall...

I loved the premiere. What was it like to direct?

It was really quite an honor to be asked to do it. I could be biased, but it’s one of my favorite casts to work with; everybody is so good. It’s a unique situation that I’ve only experienced once or twice before; where I get to act with the other actors, so »

Karen Allen in 'Indiana Jones': The girl who almost got away

18 September 2012 6:00 AM, PDT | EW - Inside Movies | See recent - Inside Movies news »

Karen Allen has an amazing laugh, and to hear it in person is to be transported to a steamy desert tent where her Marion Ravenwood is trading drinks with Indiana Jones’s half-charming rival, a flirty French archeologist named Belloq. It’s big and fun, and you’d volunteer to be dragged behind a speeding German truck for the chance to hear it again. In Raiders of the Lost Ark, Allen played a feisty, tough-as-nails beauty whose first romantic encounter with Indy had ended in Rick Blaine level heartbreak — for her. The second time around, they teamed up to find »

The Countdown: Back to School — Van Wilder

31 August 2012 12:01 PM, PDT | | See recent ReelzChannel news »

From the people who brought you Animal House and the Vacation franchise comes National Lampoon's Van Wilder, a movie about a guy who after seven years in college finds himself cut off financially from his father and forced to complete a semester's worth of coursework in six days in order to gradate. The movie was the breakout role for Ryan Reynolds and also stars Tara Reid, Daniel Cosgrove, and includes a cameo from Tim Matheson as Wilder's dad (Matheson, of course, played Otter in Animal House).

On paper the movie should have been a dud but thanks to Reynolds' perfect comedic performance and some truly funny scenes, the movie was a hit and made it onto The Countdown's Back to School list.

By Allen Gardner

A Separation (Sony) This drama from Iran won the 2011 Best Foreign Film Oscar, telling the story of a couple who file for a legal separation, with the wife pushing for a divorce. He won’t leave his Alzheimer’s-afflicted father behind, while she is wanting to take their young daughter with her to the United States. After a series of misunderstandings, threats and legal actions, the couple find that there is more than just their marriage that’s on the line. Hyper-realistic to a fault, reminiscent of the neo-realist films that came out of post-ww II Europe, but also repressive and redundant in the extreme, with the characters seeming to throw the same temper tantrum for two hours straight while the story, meanwhile, seems stalled. Wildly overpraised film is a real litmus test, with viewers seeming to be staunch defenders or equally impassioned detractors. It did win an Oscar, »

Blu-ray & DVD Release Date: Oct. 2, 2012

Price: DVD $59.98

Studio: Warner Home Video

The CW’s Hart of Dixie is a comedic fish-out-of-water TV show with plenty of romance and drama and the lovely Rachel Bilson (Waiting for Forever) as the star.

Bilson plays Dr. Zoe Hart (get it?), a surgeon in New York who unexpectedly finds herself working as a general practitioner in the tiny town of BlueBell, Alabama, after she’s turned down for a prestigious fellowship she had been sure to get. Like in all good big-city-girl-in-small-town stories, the change helps Bilson’s Hart become a better doctor and a better person, and love might not be far away.

In the television series’ season 1, the New York girl accidentally crashes the Mayor’s float in the Founder’s Day Parade, causes a stir with shocking news about the local minister and his wife, hits a ghost with her car »

10 Ways ‘Burn Notice’ Is Turning Up The Miami Heat In Season 6

26 June 2012 5:14 PM, PDT | | See recent news »

Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) has been the good soldier, helping those in need while trying to find out who burned him as a spy. After getting so close to the truth so many times, Michael began risking those he cared about to get any morsel or favor to help him get to the end. Once he got there, he wasn’t prepared for the most surreptitious villain he’s faced so far. Anson Fullerton (Jere Burns) has been up there all along, pulling the strings and orchestrating the madness in Michael’s life and then used Michael and his crew in Season 5 with Fiona’s (Gabrielle Anwar) life as leverage because he could frame her for the killing of two security guards at the British Consulate. The first two episodes have shown that Burn Notice is noticeably different this season–noticeably awesome that is!

Get Up To Speed With ‘Burn Notice’ Infographic Before Tonight’s Season 6 Premiere

14 June 2012 5:18 PM, PDT | | See recent news »

Who’s ready to see Burn Notice tonight? How is Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) going to handle life with Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar behind bars, especially now that he’s so much more emotionally involved with her now than he was when he was first burned as a spy for the CIA? And what kind of friends will Fiona attract in the slammer? New allies? New foes? What are you most excited about this season?

Burn Notice came in at #5 in our Must-See Shows of the Summer and word is that the premiere picks up just minutes after last season’s shocking finale where Fiona turns herself into authorities for a crime she didn’t commit. Considering the Miami Heat is playing Game 2 of the NBA Finals and Burn Notice’s new season is tonight, “Scorched Earth” is an appropriate title, because Miami is feeling hot-hot-hot!

DVD Review: ‘Burn Notice’ Season 5 – Michael Reaches The End of The Burn List

14 June 2012 1:50 PM, PDT | | See recent news »

When season 5 of USA’s Burn Notice started, I thought we’d see something different and we did for a little while. Super-spy Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) had reached the end of his Burn List, and taken care of the people who contributed to his burning with the help of the Us Government. He got a new partner to work with named Max (Grant Show) and became an unofficial member of the C.I.A. – that’s code for if Michael died in the line of duty, no one would know about it. For the first third of the season, not much had changed except that Michael had to follow more rules and guidelines.

Michael still managed to pick up side jobs in his spare time, helping out friends of his friends, Jesse, Sam, and Fiona (Coby Bell, Bruce Campbell, and Gabrielle Anwar) but so much of season 5 resembled prior »
