Danny Trejo Explains Machete's Origins

21 December 2009 7:06 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Many people think that the idea behind making Robert Rodriguez's upcoming Machete came from its inclusion as a faux-trailer in the Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse. However, Danny Trejo told ComingSoon that in fact the movie evolved from many years of planning.

Everybody thinks that Machete came out of a trailer, but it didn't. Robert told me he wanted to do this movie called Machete when we were doing Desperado and that if you look at the character in Machete, he kind of molded this character Machete ... Machete kicks a**. [laughs] It is a culmination of Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico ... I think there's even a little bit of From Dusk Till Dawn in there.

I think it's going to be one of his best. I'm not just saying that 'cause I'm the lead in it, but it's just a great movie. I think everybody's going to »

Danny Trejo Talks 'Machete'

21 December 2009 6:54 AM, PST | AMC - Script to Screen | See recent AMC - Script to Screen news »

Recently LatinoReview  got to visit the set of "Predators," which actor Danny Trejo is in and spoke to the site about his first lead role in "Machete," the faux trailer from "Grindhouse." The film is being co-directed by Robert Rodriguez with protege Ethan Maniquis.

The film follows the highly skilled Federale Machete who is hired by some unsavory types to assassinate a senator. But just as he's about to take the shot, he notices someone aiming at him and realizes he's been set up. He barely survives the sniper's bullet, and is soon out for revenge on his former employers, with the reluctant assistance of his old friend (Marin), who has become a priest and taken a vow of nonviolence.

Here is what he had to say about his upcoming film "Machete":

Robert put together such a great cast. What’s it like working with Robert De Niro, and then Steven Seagal, »

Danny Trejo Talks MacHete. Could the Sequels be Called MacHete Kills and MacHete Kills Again?

20 December 2009 6:01 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The other day I got to talk with Danny Trejo on the set of Predators along with a number of other online journalists.  While we are embargoed from talking about Predators, we’re allowed to cover other projects.

As most of you know, Danny recently shot Machete with director Robert Rodriguez.  The film is based on the trailer that was featured in Grindhouse and it’s loaded with an all star cast like Robert De Niro, Steven Seagal, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, Don Johnson, and Rose McGowan.

So when we talked to him about Machete, he talked about what it was like to work with such an all star cast and he confirmed the rumors that it might be getting released this April.  Also, when we asked him if Machete was a one off or did he think there could be sequels, Trejo replied, “we want Machete, Machete Kills, »

The American Film Market is going on this week in Santa Monica and a few sites are squeezing every morsel of news from the event.  Two sites nabbed a picture of a Machete one sheet featuring Jessica Alba as “Sartana.”  It just looks like Alba with a gun in her hand, but you won’t hear any complaining from me.

The rest of the posters were locked away, but the wild cast also includes Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Robert De Niro, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Steven Seagal, Don Johnson, and Rose McGowanRobert Rodriguez shot the expanded Grindhouse trailer in August here in Austin, TX.  It’s set for distribution April 16, 2010 by Sony Pictures.

Five Cool Movies For Spring 2010

23 October 2009 3:12 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

It’s a slow week for movie releases, with Fantastic Mr. Fox the only release of note in the UK, along with Cirque Du Freak. Most of the remaining big films this year are due out in November and December.

So, with the big winter films already hyped to the max, and with Iron Man 2, Clash of the Titans and Robin Hood being the highly anticipated movies this Spring, I thought i’d take a look at some Spring movies that maybe aren’t getting the attention they deserve – The Losers, Green Zone, A Couple of Dicks, Machete and Kick-Ass. Note, this is a list of the films i’m personally looking forward to, so you won’t necessarily agree with me…

The Losers

When is it? – 9th April.

Where is it? – Currently filming in Puerto Rico

Who is it? – Directed by Sylvain White, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, »
