It can cost £2,000 to interview Brad Pitt for 20 minutes – I'd want some proper exclusives for that, not the usual recycled claptrap
Two grand for a 20-minute interview with Brad Pitt at Cannes. That's what film company Alliance is charging some journalists for the privilege. So if I took an hour and 20 minutes at £8,000, how many bangs would I expect for my buck? Quite a few, as it happens.
Alliance is quick to point out that we will not be paying Pitt Ltd per se. The payment is just a means of covering its star's costs – for example, flying from America to France in one's private jet with one's own army of hairdressers, makeup artists and agents, never mind the matching suits of armour for you and your son Maddox … well, it soon mounts up. And nobody would want Brad, estimated to be worth a paltry $150m last year, to suffer financially for his art. »

Directed by P. David Ebersole
USA, 2011
Among the many accreditations that Courtney Love and her rock band Hole have garnered, the one she’s most proud of is the recognition for having a female drummer – a lesbian drummer, to be pedantic. A rarity in the music industry heretofore, Patty Schemel is a no nonsense drummer who, despite her gender, has weathered the ethereal highs and chthonic lows of being a rock star.
In P. David Ebersole’s documentary, Hit So Hard, we follow the life of Schemel, from her turbulent upbringing in a parochial small town, to her crucial role in shaping grunge music, her eventual fall from grace, and her cesspool existence of drugs, alcohol, and misfortune.
For long stretches of the beginning, the film, which is purportedly about Schemel, has an identity crisis. While discussing her experiences with Hole, Schemel will go on lengthy tangents about other music artists, »

There have been some pretty noted music rivalries through the years. Biggie versus Tupac. Eminem versus Moby. Courtney Love versus Dave Grohl. But there's a new one emerging on the horizon - John Legend versus Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.
The judge on the upcoming singing competition "Duets" fired the opening salvo while at a recent red carpet event. It is here that he tells E! that he questions the credibility of the newly-minted "X Factor" panelists.
"It's interesting when people, you know, are judging singing competitions when they aren't really singers," Legend says.
Ouch.
Spears recently signed a contract thought to be in the $15 million range to judge contestants on "X Factor." Lovato, who was a late entrant into the judging derby, inked what is believed to be a deal for about $1 million.
As for Legend, the soulful singer will be joined by Robin Thicke, Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Nettles on the ABC program. »

Courtney Love 'flipped out' and at a hotel in New York on Sunday (13.05.12). The Hole singer was disturbed as she took part in interactive play 'Forgotten', and had to run for the exit, according to the New York Post newspaper. Courtney was at the city's McKittrick Hotel, where she was immersed in a dramatic rendition of writer Jay McInerney's new play. According to sources, the immersive experience started with Courtney and other guests walking 'down a long hallway.' They then proceeded into 'different rooms with nearly identical blond models in pink nighties' who were 'taking pills, writhing on a couch or smoking cigarettes'. Even though the people in the rooms were all actors, this quickly became too much »

As you may have gleaned, I really like great judges on reality TV. While it takes a primed pro like Ryan Seacrest or Cat Deeley to make sure the entire operation runs smoothly, the judges can elevate the quality of a reality competition from vapidly entertaining to thoroughly compelling. Since the always-dubious Britney Spears is poised to super-officially announce her gig as the new panelist on X Factor, it's time to step up and declare who should really be filling Paula Abdul's shaky shoes. I've got 25 better candidates, ranked and ready for Simon Cowell's consideration.
25. Katy Perry
Sure, she's kitschy and a little shallow, but she's entertainingly goofy and even earnest in interviews. Katy Perry would also be likely to grade the energy and stage presence of contestants, which is always a sorely under-discussed component on these shows.
I worry he'd be even less critical than Adam Levine, »

Say what? (We mean: Say what say what say what … ) Courtney Love says she chants to keep calm -- and she's bringing other troubled celebrities on board to chant with her. In an interview with "Access Hollywood", Love tells Billy Bush and Kit Hoover, "I chant. You can tell when I'm not doing it, I get in trouble and then [when] I am doing it, I don't get in trouble.
The Hole singer added: "It's really, really good for me. So, that's my religion."
Love's wild, headline-making behavior includes a past addiction to Vicodin and other drug abuse, flashing her nipples in repeated wardrobe malfunctions and sounding off on the sex life of her own daughter, Frances Bean Cobain.
Love isn't selfish about her newfound calming tactics, though -- the 47-year-old also said she's arranged for a group chant with seven women, including Lindsay Lohan.

Courtney Love recently shared her typical food week and revealed that the rocker's diet isn't exactly what you would call 'normal.'
"I'm not a foodie, but I am a foodie. Someone always gets chicken potpie and salad from D.D., you know, Dean & Deluca," she said, referring to an expensive online gourmet food service. "If I can't afford D.D., I just don't eat."
Love also revealed that she often craves sweet treats during the wee hours of the morning and is making sure her staff knows it.
"Literally called an admin meeting on how to make the perfect warm sugar cookie for me in the middle of the night," Love said. "I stopped doing dope in the nineties, but I've had to eat sweets at 4 or 5 a.m. ever since."

Courtney Love no longer has control of Kurt Cobain's image rights. The Hole frontwoman agreed to hand over the rights to her late Nirvana singer husband's name, likeness and appearance to their daughter Frances Bean Cobain, 19, in 2010, documents obtained by website The Fix have revealed. The documents show that Courtney agreed to step down as Acting Manager of End of Music (Eom) LLC - the business responsible for generating cash from the rocker's publicity rights - after she received a $2.75 million loan from her daughter's trust fund. The money was transferred to Eom and then put into an account in Courtney's then-attorney's name. Until the loan is paid back, Courtney won't receive any money from the deals related to Kurt that have been formed by Frances and her advisers since December 2010, which means she could lose out on a fortune. Courtney Love is not a foodie, you guys. She might be a rock star, a foodie, a Twitter troll and a questionably fit mother, but she is not the kind of person who is going to lie about how much potato salad she eats. “I’m not a foodie,” Love told Grub Street while writing her fascinating food diary for the site. “But I am a foodie.” The whole thing is insane/worth a read, but because we love you and value your time, we plucked the five most tender, succulent tidbits for your enjoyment. On a related note, no wonder Frances Bean is now in charge of the money earned by Kurt Cobain‘s publicity rights. Dean & Deluca pot pies every day would really add up! Boy, if we were rich…we would probably eat the exact same things.

In the barrage of press that singer, actress and now artist Courtney Love is doing in promotion of her art show "And She's Not Even Pretty," comes the best Grub Street "New York Diet" food diary we've ever read.
Each week, New York magazine's food blog asks a notable person to detail their eating habits for one week, and we are amazed at not only Love's diet, but what it revealed about her.
Always the contradiction, Love tells Grub Street: "I'm not a foodie, but I am a foodie." The 42-year-old subsists on a daily diet of Dean and Deluca takeout, toast soldiers and a late night/early morning sugar rush.
"Someone always gets chicken potpie and potato salad from D.D., you know, Dean & Deluca. If I can't afford D.D., I just don't eat," she explained, adding that she makes sure someone gets her a "full, fresh new" cake every day, »

She lost custody of her daughter, Frances Bean in 2009, and in 2010 Courtney Love gave up custody of the name and likeness of Frances' father Kurt Cobain, according to court documents obtained by The Fix . The documents show that Love surrendered publicity rights for the Nirvana frontman in return for a $2.75 million loan from Frances' trust fund.
