Need added reason to appreciate your mom this Mother's Day? Hollywood has the solution.
We've seen an abundance of wonderful mothers portrayed in movies, but perhaps those who stick with us best are the crazies -- the screaming, conniving, sometimes knife-wielding matriarchs who refuse to go unappreciated. We'll get another glimpse of the nuttiest of all mad mothers this October when Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore reprise Sissy Spacek's and Piper Laurie's Oscar-nominated roles from the original 1976 film "Carrie." In the meantime, Laurie will retain her title as the Worst Movie Mom Ever. Check out the video montage above for a look at her and other Hollywood mamas who come close. »

It's that time of year again when we take a moment to honor our moms. And how great they are, right? Well, here at Dread Central we can turn even the most loving moms into something horrific, and in celebration of Mother's Day, we bring you Horror's 11 Most Memorable Moms!
Read on… and eat your vegetables for chrissake!
Okay, so not all the moms on this list are psychotic killers; some are heroes, and some fall somewhere in between. But they're all great for their own reasons. As usual, we'll start out with some honorable mentions, and we certainly have some remarkable moms to speak about. We'll start with Estelle Collingwood (played by Cynthia Carr) in the original Last House on the Left. Only a mother's love could drive a person to bite a guy's Johnson off as an act of revenge! Another great justice-seeking mother was Kate (played by Vera Farmiga) in Orphan. »

Carrie, 1976 USA

Directed by Brian De Palma
The Killer Snakes (she sha shou), 1975 Hong Kong
Written by Kuang Ni
Directed by Chih-Hung Kuei
Killer Snakes is a Shaw Brothers Hong Kong exploitation from director Chih-Hung Kuei. To use the obvious terminology Kuei was prolific, unorthodox and unafraid of filth. Over his thirty year career he made thirty-eight films but, it is perhaps Killer Snakes (1975) that’s become one of his more notable cult favorites. At it’s least tasteful moments it falls nicely into the arena of soft exploitation. Complete with seedy crooks, snake mutilations, S&M, bondage and in one (shall we say- creative) scene a willing snake finds it’s way into a prostitute. Yet, there is a softer and more interesting side to this slithering cinema.
Killer Snakes– at it’s core– is a character tale »

New images from Kimberly Peirce's remake of Carrie have been released.
Chloë Moretz stars as ostracised high school student Carrie, a role made famous by Sissy Spacek in Brian de Palma's 1976 original.
After coming to realise that she has telekinetic abilities, Carrie is pushed over the edge by a humiliating prank on the night of her prom.
Julianne Moore also stars as Carrie's unstable, fanatically religious mother Margaret, who was played by Piper Laurie originally.
The film has been described as a "totally different" take on Stephen King's novel, with Moretz comparing its tone to that of Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan.
Carrie will open in the Us on October 18, and in the UK on November 29, having been pushed back seven months from its originally planned release date.

Hollywood’s goal of remaking every single horror film of the last forty years appears to be going strong. The latest victim is “Carrie.” Granted, the casting of Chloe Moretz as the title character and Julianne Moore as her mother sounds great on paper, especially with Kimberly Peirce ("Boys Don’t Cry") at the helm. But the first full trailer for the movie, released earlier this month, didn’t leave many people hopeful, nor did it leave much to the imagination. Now, new images from the film have arrived, once again confirming that Chloe Moretz will be drenched in blood, in case you had no idea. “Carrie,” of course, is a re-telling of the Stephen King novel that was first made in 1976 with Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie in the aforementioned main roles, directed by Brian De Palma. It will definitely be a tough task to top a film that »

The Flickering Myth writing team discuss the trailer for Carrie, Stephen King movies, and remakes in general....
Last week saw the arrival of the first full length trailer for the upcoming remake Carrie, which is of course based upon the celebrated debut novel by Stephen King.
The new version of the horror classic is directed by Kimberley Pierce (Boys Don't Cry) and sees Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass) stepping into the role made famous by Sissy Spacek in Brian De Palma's 1976 original - a film widely regarded as one of the finest King horror adaptations.
So, what did our writing team make of this 21st century update? Well, not very much, as it happens...
David Bishop: Yawn. Seen it all before. Literally. I really wish Chloe Grace Moretz would stop appearing in pointless horror remakes, she's much better than this. For starters I can buy into Sissy Spacek as a social outcast at school. »

Chloe Moretz steps into the shoes of bullied Carrie in the upcoming Sony remake, and judging by the first trailer, the studio figures everyone already knows what's going to happen.
The original 1976 film based on the bestselling book by Stephen King and starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie as mother and daughter, respectively, is generally known as a horror classic. For the remake, director Kimberly Peirce is telling virtually the same story, though it looks like we'll get to see much more of Carrie's reprisal against her classmates for dumping a bucket of blood on her at prom.
Playing against Chloe Moretz as mom is Julianne Moore and the trailer also gives away her arc from concerned mother to abused mother once Carrie discovers her abilities and starts putting them to use.

If you remake Carrie they're all going to laugh at you!
the Mean Girls of Thomas Ewen Consolidated High School.
Or, if not laugh, than shake their heads in annoyance that you've dared to keep company with a 70s classic. I've never disguised or hedged my opinion here. I think Carrie (1976) is a Great motion picture. Not just a good one. Since it can't really be improved upon (specifically in the performance arena since Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie both did risky revelatory Oscar worthy work) there's no reason to remake it. Unless of course you have a fresh take on it, which is the only reason to ever remake anything that's great to begin with.

Who's that covered in all that blood? Oh, it's just Carrie. Again. If you're like us, you've been anxiously awaiting the trailer for the talent-packed (Julianne Moore! Chloe Grace Moretz!) remake of "Carrie." Brian De Palma's 1976, Sissy Spacek-starring horror flick (based on the Stephen King novel) may not have been perfect, but it certainly had enough going on (Piper Laurie's appropriately over-the-top performance, for one) to warrant the question How're you going to top that? Well, ladies and gentlemen, the trailer has dropped, and we finally have a real glimpse of the look, feel, and tone of Kimberly Peirce's ("Boys Don't Cry") modern-day stab at the story of a telekinetically-inclined high-school student with a mom who thinks puberty is the Devil's playground. Watch the trailer, take a moment, and decide: Are you excited for the reboot of "Carrie"? »

The first trailer for the Carrie remake, starring Julianne Moore and Chloë Grace Moretz, is here!
Directed by Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry) the film is billed as a reimagining of the horror classic, based on the novel by Stephen King, which originally starred Piper Laurie and Sissy Spacek as the title character.
Trailer verdict: This movie will definitely be better than Carrie 2, which we all try to forget exists.
Carrie opens in theaters Oct. 18.

The trailer for Kimberly Peirce's "Carrie" remake, starring Chloe Grace Moretz, is finally here, proving itself worth the wait.
Originally slated for release on March 15, the film was pushed back seven months to October 18, the ideal release date for a horror film of this magnitude. "Carrie" co-stars Julianne Moore as the telekinetic teen's mom Margaret White (played by Piper Laurie in Brian De Palma's original 1976 adaptation of the Stephen King novel).
The trailer hits all the beats you'd expect it to: Introducing Moore's religious zealousness, Carrie's outsider status at school, and the prom. Oh, yes, the prom. The uninitiated may be inclined to complain about spoilers, but fans of the source material will be pleased to know that Peirce's adaptation seems poised to pack in all the insanity they've been hoping for.
"Carrie" hits theaters October 18. »
