Top 10 Assassination Movies This week we have the Christmas Day release of the new MGM thriller Valkyrie starring Tom Cruise and directed by Bryan Singer in which Tom Cruise is out to assassinate Hitler, and MGM decided they wanted to sponsor a list of my Top Ten Assassination Films in conjunction with the release. How cool is that!?!? However, it wasn't all roses putting the piece together. When trying to figure out my top ten assassination films I had to quickly look at the list I was putting together and figure out is it a revenge film or an assassination film? For example, Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill is a revenge film carried out by an assassin... So it is it an assassination film? I decided - no. Gangs of New York was another one I felt fit into the revenge category and didn't make the list even though I love it. »

Postgate was responsible for a string of iconic kids shows from the 1950s to the 1980s; including Ivor the Engine and Noggin the Nog, but he was most famous for The Clangers, a family of pink knitted aliens who spoke in whistles, and Bagpuss, a saggy pink cloth cat.
Postgate, a cousin of actress Angela Lansbury, died at a nursing home in Broadstairs, England on Monday, according to his partner Naomi Linnell.
He is survived by several children from his marriage to ex-wife Prudence Myers. »
Lansbury, 82, will star as eccentric psychic Madame Arcati opposite fellow British actor Rupert Everett in the show.
The Murder, She Wrote star took to the stage last year in the New York production of Deuce, marking her return to Broadway after a near 25-year hiatus.
Blithe Spirit is scheduled to hit the stage in February. »
Legendary actor Paul Newman was forced to cancel a recent appearance at a charity event as a result of his declining health, according to reports.
The 83-year-old Oscar-winner was allegedly given weeks to live last month, prompted by reports he had completed chemotherapy treatment at a New York hospital - where he was photographed leaving looking thin and frail.
Rumours of his declining health and alleged lung cancer diagnosis surfaced earlier this year, following his withdrawal as director from a production of Of Mice and Men in his native Connecticut.
At the time of the reports, Newman's spokesman denied the actor had cancer.
But according to new claims, Newman was forced to bow out of the event in their Connecticut hometown - where he was set to co-chair with his wife Joanne Woodward on 15 September.
A source tells the National Enquirer: "Joanne had dearly hoped Paul could attend the charity gala at the Westport Country Playhouse, which she built for the community. She knew he'd want to say a few words publicly.
"But Paul couldn't do it. Some of their closest Hollywood pals were there, including Julia Roberts, Angela Lansbury, James Earl Jones and Bernadette Peters... Paul assured Joanne that he'd be supporting her in spirit."
A spokesperson for Newman said last month he is "doing nicely", but has neither confirmed nor denied he has cancer. »
Video courtesy APThe actor-filmmaker Time magazine once dubbed "Mr. Hollywood" was saluted by that very town Thursday night, as Warren Beatty became the 36th annual American Film Institute Lifetime Achievement honoree. Several generations of actors – from Robert Downey Jr. to Angela Lansbury – turned out at the Kodak Theatre for the 71-year-old, who's been a movie star since his 1961 vehicle opposite Natalie Wood, Splendor in the Grass, and a Tinsel Town force since his groundbreaking Bonnie and Clyde – which he starred in and produced in 1967. But other distinctions were singled out, too. Halle Berry, Beatty's 1998 Bulworth costar, referred to him as »

Actress Angela Lansbury fears drugs would have killed her children had a devastating domestic fire not forced the family to relocate to Ireland.
The Murder, She Wrote star and her late husband Peter Shaw endured "a terrible time" after an inferno destroyed their much-treasured California abode in the late 1960s.
Adding to their woes were children Deirdre and Anthony, who had succumbed to the temptations of narcotics and were spiralling toward an untimely death.
In a bid to consign their bad luck firmly to the past, the family uprooted to Ireland - and Lansbury is convinced the bold decision saved her kids' lives.
She says, "When my house burned down, it was a terrible time. We lost everything. But I also helped change our lives. Our children were on drugs - their friends were overdosing and dying, and the outlook was very bad.
"After the fire, with nothing to stay for, we moved to Ireland. So some good came of it. I don't think my children would have survived if we hadn't moved away from temptation." »
Murder, She Wrote star Angela Lansbury has literally dodged a bullet in a hard-hitting new ad campaign for the Als Association in its bid to solve the mysteries of Lou Gehrig's disease (amyotrophic lateralsclerosis).
The actress, who lost her sister to the paralysing killer illness, steps out of the way of the bullet at the last minute in the TV ad.
She says, "We use the bullet as a metaphor and it's a very apt one.
"With Als, you don't really know where it comes from, and you don't know when it might hit.
"It's a terrible disease and I wanted to get on board and help to make the American public aware how desperate the need for research is." »
The trio all lived at Manhattan Plaza, a government-subsidised building for performing artists in the city's Hell's Kitchen neighbourhood.
Mary Jo Slater, who lived there from 1977 to 1986, has gathered together famous former residents - and actor Samuel L. Jackson who once worked as a security guard in the block - to help her make The Miracle on 42nd Street.
The documentary is due for release later in 2008. »
