Newswire: Demi Moore to Rock That Body with Ilana Glazer and Scarlett Johansson

1 hour ago | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Demi Moore is set to star—and perhaps party—alongside the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Ilana Glazer, and Kate McKinnon in the comedy Rock That Body. The movie from Glazer‘s Broad City collaborators Paul W. Downs and Lucia Aniello is about a bachelorette event that goes bad when a male stripper ends ups dead. Details of Moore’s role aren’t available yet, but we’d like to imagine she’s playing the hot older woman who gives the young ones sage advice about topics like sex and the appropriate manner in which to hide dead bodies.

The cast also includes Zoe Kravitz, Jillian Bell, and Downs, just to add a little bit of testosterone, not that it’s at all necessary. Moore was recently seen in Wild Oats, which aired on Lifetime and also featured Shirley MacLaine and Jessica Lange.

1984: Year of the Heroic Farm Wife

24 August 2016 11:00 AM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

As we look back at 1984, please welcome new contributor John Guerin to talk about a famous Oscar triple...

In 1984, 60% of the Best Actress category was farm wives

In May 1985, after scoring Oscar nominations for playing distressed farmwives in Country and The River, Jessica Lange and Sissy Spacek testified before the U.S. House of Representatives and urged senators to help aid farmers during a devastating agricultural crisis. After a toxic combination of faulty economic policies, mounting debts, high interest rates, and a declining Midwest population, American farmers were experiencing financial hardship unseen since the Great Depression. Both Country and The River offer visions of farm families under such pressures, pitting family and community against unyielding forces of nature and government.

Can you remember the last time an actress testified before Congress after starring in a politically-minded film? »

Newswire: Sarah Paulson joins the Feud between Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange on FX

23 August 2016 11:36 AM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Fresh of her (rightly) Emmy-nominated turn as Marcia Clark in American Crime Story, Sarah Paulson is set to master a whole new series of quivering lip movements as eight-time Oscar nominee Geraldine Page. (Page finally won an Oscar in 1986, one year before her death at the age of 62.) Paulson will be playing the role on her frequent collaborator Ryan Murphy’s newest FX anthology series, Feud, the first season of which will focus on the livelong rivalry between Hollywood icons Joan Crawford (Jessica Lange) and Bettie Davis (Susan Sarandon).

Capitalizing on Murphy’s obsession with grande dames behaving badly, the first season will focus on Davis and Crawford’s deliciously bitchy antics on the set of What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?. Page, presumably, factors in due to the fact that she and Davis (and not Crawford) were both up for Oscars in 1962—Davis for Baby Jane ...

Suicide Squad: Kicking Open The Door For Female Villains

21 August 2016 8:00 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Have you ever noticed the way female villains are presented in movies? Firstly, compared to their male counterparts, women with nefarious agendas are few and far between. Secondly, while male villains can have motivations that range from simple to complex, female villains tend to be mentally ill, or suffering some kind of deep-seated, ‘a-man-done-me-wrong’ kind of emotional damage. Rarely, in cinema, do we see a female villain who is driven purely by a desire for power, or money, or non-romance-related revenge.

They do exist. Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest; O-Ren Ishii in Kill Bill; Queen Ravenna in Snow White And The Huntsman – but compare this number to the vast array of those women who have been driven to evil by illness or the actions of men, and a very clear pattern emerges. While male villains can simply be criminal, corrupt and murderous, there usually has »

What the heck is American Horror Story Season 6 going to be about?

That's the question many fans of the FX drama have been asking, as we are still none the wiser about what the plot will be for the season.

The official poster for the season has finally been revealed.

If you're scared of spiders, you're probably not going to like it!

A woman with spiders coming out of her eyes?

It's freaky!

We usually know way in advance what the central plot will be for the season ahead, but not this time round.

We know a lot about who will be returning from previous seasons, but their roles are still very much up in the air.

Will Lady Gaga take center stage again, or will she have a low profile this time round?

We're dying to find out!

FX recently released some teasers that gave us little hints.
