ABC Announces Fall Schedule – Get A Peek At What’s Coming

22 May 2012 12:59 PM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Terry O'Quinn as Gavin Doran in "666 Park Avenue" (ABC/Andrew Eccles)

ABC‘s slate of new shows for fall has a strange flavor to it, and it’s going to be a bumpy ride. The network has about as many new shows as returning ones (if you count all the midseasons), and a good percentage of the returning offerings are a year old or less, making this look a bit like a rebuilding year.

Not only is it a rebuilding year, but it’s the year of bringing back every actor and actress who ever had a decent run on a show before. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a network’s new season slate that was so crammed with people returning from something else. If you can’t make it good, I suppose, make sure viewers recognize the faces.

Famous for his roles in Bachelor Party, Grease 2 (maybe that’s infamous?) and TV’s Tj Hooker and hosting Dance Fever, Zmed hasn’t had many acting credits in recent years. Now 58, he’s lately concentrated on theater work and appearing on board Princess Cruise ships in a singing and dancing review.

Randy Harrison

The erstwhile Justin Taylor from Showtime’s Queer as Folk (2000-2005) will be featured in a small role as a waiter in the upcoming comedy Gayby and is currently half of a two-actor cast starring in a touring production of the play Red, which recently ran at the Cleveland Play House. question of the day: Are superhero films popular because our real leaders have failed us?

7 May 2012 3:28 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

Today’s question comes from reader Lorenzo Lamas, who wants to know: Are superhero films popular because our real leaders have failed us? It’s an interesting notion, and if even a little true, the record-smashing (estimated) $200 million North American opening for Marvel’s The Avengers (known as Avengers Assemble in the U.K., where it also broke records when it opened here last week) might suggest both that our leaders are failing more now than ever before, and that us regular peons are feeling it and are angrier about it than ever before. Of course Avengers is simply a kickass movie, but clearly there’s something about it that hits a zeitgeist nerve, too. And it’s far from the only superhero movie to strike a chord in recent years. As the Chicago Sun-Times points out about the previous biggest-weekend-ever record-holders: »

B-Sides: Hands Off Jim Carrey, He Belongs to Me

28 April 2012 12:38 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Twenty years before Twilight there was another teen movie built around a love triangle involving a vampire and a non-vampire fighting over a naive virgin. It was called Once Bitten and starred a newcomer named Jim Carrey. Unlike Twilight it was a comedy on purpose.

A young pre-Ace Ventura, pre-“In Living ColorJim Carrey starred as a teenage virgin pursued by an aging vamp played by Lauren Hutton who desperately needs to the suck the blood from the inner thigh of a male virgin in order to maintain her eternal youth. This doesn’t sit well with his chaste girlfriend (Karen Kopins).

Given how popular tweener vampire tales are and how the notion of “cougars” has become a part of the pop culture lexicon, it really is kind of amazing that a remake of Once Bitten hasn’t already come to fruition.

Top 30: Underrated action movies – Part 1

2 April 2012 8:31 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

The action movie. It’s my bread and butter. Give me 90 minutes of arse-kicking over the latest critically acclaimed drama any day. But between the constant stream of new action flicks coming out of Hollywood via for your attention alongside a barrage of straight to DVD releases it can be hard to find the really Good action movies these days – you can’t even rely on the big name action stars to provide solid action entertainment these days!

So with that in mind I thought I’d complied my Top 30 underrated action movies – those that may have slipped under the radar of all but those that scour Impact Magazine cover to cover, but definitely deserve hunting down. In part one I’m taking a look at the films 30 – 21. So in no particular order…

Bounty Hunters (2011)

19 March 2012 2:22 PM, PDT | Planet Fury | See recent Planet Fury news »

Directed by: Patrick McBrearty

Written by: Reese Eveneshen

Cast: Trish Stratus, Frank J. Zupancic, Boomer Phillips, Andrea James Lui, Joe Rafla

Of all the many and varied action movie subgenres, my favorite is probably the no-nonsense, low-budget, direct-to-dvd action flick.

These movies are comforting, akin to cinematic junk food. They don't have to be good; they just have to deliver the goods. All that's really necessary are some gnarly fights and/or gunplay, a little skin and a few jokes from a reasonably attractive cast. If the filmmakers can provide these elements, wrapped in a story that moves briskly enough to prevent me from thinking about the inevitable plot holes, then I'm a happy man.

Sadly, with the passing of the golden age of the video store, as well as the rusty age of Lorenzo Lamas and Steven Seagal, this once ubiquitous type of movie is rapidly becoming scarce. But it's not entirely dead yet, »

Eric Larnick: 'WWE Raw' Recap: Musical Showdown With The Rock

14 March 2012 8:01 AM, PDT | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

The big showdown from the Mar. 12 Raw, live in Cleveland, Ohio is a musical battle between John Cena and the Rock.

We're two weeks away from "WrestleMania 28" on Sun., April 1. Live from the Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida, headliners Cena -- the face of World Wrestling Entertainment -- will be squaring off against wrestler-turned-movie star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at the Super Bowl of wrestling.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, onto this week's showdown:

Opening Segment: John Cena's Battle Rap

Watch On WWE Fan Nation

Cena comes out in full "Doctor of Thuganomics" gear, complete with Cavaliers jersey. Despite the local sports team pandering and wrestling fans' love of nostalgia, Cena is met with a divisive crowd. He lays down some pretty vulgar rhymes, including wanting to give Rock a Cleveland steamer. Cleveland, uh, appreciates(?) the shout-out.

Lindsay Lohan Hosts SNL: Best and Worst Skits?

3 March 2012 11:45 PM, PST | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

As someone who very much enjoyed Lindsay Lohan’s work in Mean Girls and Freaky Friday, I was genuinely hoping she’d score some big laughs as host of this week’s Saturday Night Live. Unfortunately for the troubled actress, however, there’s only so much one can do with setups built around prison-rape jokes or the sight of Fred Armisen in drag getting repeatedly hit by a car.

It was a harbinger of bad things to come when the opening monologue focused almost entirely on various SNL castmembers “surreptitiously” scoping out Lohan for signs of her notorious erratic behavior »

Katie Hawkes: Life Lessons Learned From (Not) Watching The Bachelor

28 February 2012 6:24 AM, PST | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

We better get the confessional out of the way: I've actually never watched a single episode of The Bachelor. I know -- I'm not sure how I've avoided it either. But considering that I've lived with my fair share of female roommates, it's inevitable that I've overhead a few tidbits or caught glimpses of some random scenes.

Even if I haven't devoted a noteworthy portion of my life to the soul-enriching experience of drooling over Ben or Brad or Bob or Byron (is there a trend here?), I still feel like I've learned some important things from The Bachelor. (And no, the list doesn't include "important people's names all start with the letter B," though I'm willing to explore the possibility later.)

1. Dress up. Always.

From what I've gathered, the show largely takes place in a mansion, and the bachelors always seem to be wearing suits. It might not be true, »

HollywoodNews.com:There are about a dozen gifting suites handing out swag to Oscar nominees, presenters and other stars this week. Perhaps the most popular destination for prestige pampering — certainly one of the busiest — is the Roger Neal Style Hollywood Oscar Suite at the L’Ermitage Hotel in Beverly Hills.

As of yesterday (2/23), some 200 stars and 10 nominees had already visited the suite, including Wendi McLendon Covey, Oscar presenter and “Bridesmaids” star, with her friend, Oscar nominee for Best Screenplay honors for “Bridesmaids,” Annie Mumolo. We’re told they loved

their Raju Rasiah Beverly Hills rings, and their Gm Collin SKincare Paris kit.

Richard Middleson, “The Artist’s” executive producer, came with his wife Katherine. She fell for a Shekar Rahate gown, saying she felt it was perfect to represent the movie. Shekar customized the dress just for her in 24 hours.
