Next in the TV Show Remake Craze: Charlie’s Angels

16 November 2009 10:43 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The remake bug has made its transition from the big screen to the small screen. This infectious virus, which the Cdc (Center for Disease Control) has categorized as the most aggressive ever, has been mutated and become a full-fledged epidemic among the major television networks.  It started a couple of years ago when NBC tried to remake two classic shows from the 70’s and 80’s, Bionic Woman and Knight Rider.

ABC has already showed symptoms of the bug with its most recent remakes of V and Melrose Place. Now, according to Variety, ABC’s next attempt will be the 70’s female spy show Charlie’s Angels.  Josh Friedman, who helped adapt Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles for Fox, Leonard Goldberg who was a producer for the original Charlie’s Angels, Steve McPherson, and Drew Barrymore (who was in the movie version of the show in 2000 and its 2003 sequel) are all attached to the project. »

14 November 2009 5:51 AM, PST | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Though many recent primetime schedules are littered with unsuccessful revivals of old TV shows, ABC thinks the time is right for a new version of Charlie's Angels. It's actually the third time that this has been attempted. Will this one actually make it?

Created by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts, the original Charlie's Angels debuted on ABC on September 22, 1976. The story revolves around three picture-perfect young ladies who work for a private investigation agency and use their beauty and skills to solve cases.

The show's original trio of women was played by Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith. David Doyle played helper John Bosley and John Forsythe voiced the unseen owner of the agency, Charlie Townsend. Fawcett left after one season was replaced by Cheryl Ladd. Jackson left after three seasons and was replaced by Shelley Hack. The producers »

Drew Barrrymore, who played the part of Dylan Sanders in the successful big-screen versions of the Angels tale, will be involved in the project, although it's uncertain in what capacity, as will Leonard Goldberg, who helped launch the original series with Aaron Spelling. Cameron Diaz Gives Thumbs Up to 'Charlie's Angels 3'

4 August 2009 10:00 PM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Having a number of future projects lining-up in front of her apparently doesn't stop Cameron Diaz to do another "Charlie's Angels" movie should the third one is being developed. The Natalie Cook of the action-comedy franchise fessed up about her willingness in an interview with MTV News while promoting "The Box".

"You know people ask me about it all the time," she stated when presented with the possibility of returning. "I would love to do it. It's just a matter of us getting off our butts and doing it. Totally lazy! Our work ethic sucks, all of us." Asked whether or not Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore and director McG would be back, the 33-year-old responded, "I mean I would love to do, but again [I] have no idea. It's not anything real. There's no tangible evidence in my life."

DVD: Coraline, Hotel, Watchmen

Try to imagine this DVD release roundup in 3-D for maximum enjoyment.

What's new on DVD Tuesday? We'll bookend this roundup with the two best releases. Links to add them to your queues provided because I'm sweet and helpful like that.

Coraline - I loved the use of 3D in Coraline so I'm wondering how it will transfer to the flatter world of home entertainment: Will that tunnel into Other Mother be as beckoning? Would the transformative acrobatic sister act pay off quite so well? Even if they won't, the film's imaginative visuals and fun character play will pull you into its rewarding tale of a bored little girl suddenly fighting for her soul and her parent's lives in a fantasy world that's not quite like her own. Coraline's journey is often compared to Alice's trip through the looking glass or down the rabbit hole. Miyazaki's Spirited Away was also described that way. »

Ladd Still Hurt About Charlie's Angeles Reunion Snub

2 July 2009 1:11 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Cheryl Ladd is still sore about missing the chance to be part of the Charlie's Angels salute to TV mogul Aaron Spelling at the 2006 Emmy Awards, insisting co-star Kate Jackson cut her from the reunion.

Ladd replaced Farrah Fawcett on the hit show and played her character's sister Kris Munroe for 90 episodes between 1977 and 1981, but she was not invited to be a part of the Emmys tribute to Charlie's Angels creator Spelling.

She tells America's TV Guide magazine she was "hurt" when Jackson, Jaclyn Smith and Fawcett, who only appeared in the first season of the show, took the stage at the ceremony.

Ladd says, "I think Kate made the decision for everybody that this is how it was going to be. I was the outsider."

And the actress admits that although she has always been friends with co-star Smith, she never got close to her TV sister Fawcett, who died last week.

She adds, "She was a little surprised how well the show did after she left, so we both chose to be 100 per cent professional." »

Farrah Fawcett Dies Aged 62

25 June 2009 2:24 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Farrah Fawcett, 1970s pin-up girl and star of the massively successful Charlie's Angels TV series, has succumbed to cancer, aged 62.Her career began in television with appearances in series like Swat and The Six Million Dollar Man, but she was initially most famous for her marriage to Lee Majors, until her Angels role as Jill Munroe made her a primetime household name. She only stayed for one season (replaced subsequently by Cheryl Ladd as her younger sister), and earned more from poster royalties than from the actual show, but it was long enough to make her an icon of sorts. The Farrah hairstyle was the Rachel of its day.Her film career never quite reached great heights: there were appearances in Logan's Run (1976) and The Cannonball Run (1981), as well as the truly oddball Saturn 3 (1980), which co-starred Kirk Douglas and a dubbed Harvey Keitel, with a script by Martin Amis. »

Farrah Fawcett, 1947-2009 (Rip)

Somewhere you can hear Charlie's disembodied voice weeping for an Angel passing. I mean that in the kindest non-snarkiest way in case anyone misreads. If you lived through the 70s or 80s you will undoubtedly have at least a small place in your heart for the seminal Charlie's Angels cast and probably Farrah Fawcett in particular. She got the most mileage from the show, career wise, probably by exiting it so very quickly. Smart girl. I preferred Jaclyn Smith as a child and then Cheryl Ladd but now in retrospect I'm totally a Kate Jackson man. Yet through it all, personal preferences aside, it was Farrah who emerged as the true superstar among them.

She died this morning at 62, losing her long battle with cancer.
