Pythons Snub Reunion

5 December 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

An attempt by Vanity Fair magazine to reunite the five surviving members of Monty Python has failed. After repeated efforts to tempt the comedy team back to the stage or screen had stumbled, the American magazine hoped it could at least reunite Michael Palin, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle and Terry Jones for a Photo shoot to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the British comedy team's conception. But, as Idle explains, even that was too much for the busy quintet, "I thought there was zero chance we'd all get together for it. Instead we are to be photographed in different parts of the world and stuck together by computer." »

Cleese Dismisses Python Reunion

10 September 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Legendary comedian John Cleese has all but ruled out a Monty Python reunion - because the comic collective haven't met for four years. Cleese, 63, insists the surviving members of the veteran team - Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Eric Idle and Terry Gilliam - are still on friendly terms, but they're all too busy with other projects to be in the same place at the same time. He says, "It is absolutely impossible to get even a majority of us together in a room, and I'm not joking. I don't think we've been in a room together for four years. We had all sort of thoughts about doing a final stage tour. And then Michael, who is painfully nice, who finds it impossible to say 'No', finally summoned up the courage to say 'No', at which point Eric became very cross about it." Original member Graham Chapman died in 1989 after a battle with spinal cancer. »
