The designs appeared to be in the yantra (or sak yant) tattoo style, a traditional Buddhist form of body art that originated in Southeast Asia. A source confirmed to People that Jolie did indeed get three new tattoos and that they are Buddhist blessings for peace, love and a prosperous life. Wrap-Ranker Oscar Poll: Weirdest Acceptance Speeches Ever

5 February 2016 9:17 AM, PST | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

The Academy Awards have had more than a fair share of boring speeches. But every once in a while, the audience is treated to a slice of weird that will become more memorable than the award itself. Angelina Jolie won for Best Supporting Actress in 2000 and promptly claimed, “I’m so in love with my brother right now.” Not “I love my brother,” but rather that she’s “so in love” with him. Try and figure that one out without cringing. Also Read: #OscarsSoWhite Again? Here's How Diverse Next Year's Awards Could Be Sally Field inspired years of narcissistic impressions »

11 Essential Coen Brothers Movies

4 February 2016 9:00 AM, PST | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Have filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen been getting too conventional?

Already this decade, they've made a classical western ("True Grit") and written three relatively irony-free scripts for other directors (including Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken" and Steven Spielberg's "Bridge of Spies").

Fortunately, for fans of the brothers' earlier work, their new period Hollywood farce, "Hail, Caesar!" (opening Feb. 5), looks like it could be a return to form -- full of absurd, satirical touches, with maybe just a little food for thought. If you're wondering why the writing-directing-producing-editing siblings are such a big deal, or how they got to where they are now, go back and watch these gems from their three-decades-plus career.

Box Office Democracy: Kung Fu Panda 3

4 February 2016 3:00 AM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

I had no interest in seeing either of the first two Kung Fu Panda movies. I thought they were a place for a brand of Jack Black shtick that I had grown tired of by the time 2008 got here (for the record: peak Jack Black was 2003’s School of Rock). I had a strong idea of what these movies were, and I didn’t want anything to do with it. As far as Kung Fu Panda 3 is concerned, I was wrong. This is a charming movie, a funny movie, sometimes even a touching movie. I regretted nothing about my time spent watching Kung Fu Panda 3, and it’s the first movie of 2016 to make me feel that way.

Kung Fu Panda 3 tells a story I was happy to hear told. Po (Black) is told he needs to start teaching the rest of his action team (voiced by »

Animated sequel shows off its moves, but El James parody Fifty Shades of Black and Natalie Portman western Jane Got a Gun struggle to find audiences

Animated sequel Kung Fu Panda 3 scored a respectable $41m on debut to top the Us box office this weekend, but Oscar-winner Natalie Portman suffered a career-worst opening on the troubled western Jane Got a Gun.

Directed once again by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, this time with Alessandro Carloni, the new Kung Fu Panda film sees the roundhouse-kicking bear meet his birth family for the first time, as well as graduating to become a teacher of martial arts. Strong reviews and a voice cast featuring Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan and Seth Rogen once again fuelled the film’s North American success.

Weekend Box Office: Po Rolls In the Dough

With no major storms or championship football games to contend with, the North American box office got itself back on track this weekend. Overall, the top ten climbed 22.7% over last weekend’s snowy totals and a healthy 47% over last year.

After a hiatus of nearly five years, the Kung Fu Panda franchise came back to life with Kung Fu Panda 3. The sequel kicked its way to a solid $41 million from 3,955 theaters. The opening for the latest adventures of Po and his pals was down slightly from the $47 million earned by the second film back in 2011, but it should be noted that Panda 2 opened during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. 'Kung Fu Panda 3' Takes the Weekend Box Office with $41M

31 January 2016 11:11 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

While January isn't typically a big month for box office blockbusters, there can be the occasional movie that opens big. Two weeks ago, Ride Along 2 breathed some life into the new year with a respectable $35.2 million opening frame, but last weekend, it dropped a whopping 64.7% and slipped from first to third place, with the holdover The Revenant taking the top spot in its fifth week in theaters. This weekend is shaping up to be the biggest frame of the new year so far, with three heavily-promoted new releases, Kung Fu Panda 3, Fifty Shades of Black and The Finest Hours. Box Office Mojo is reporting that Kung Fu Panda 3 took the top spot at the box office with $41 million.

Kung Fu Panda 3 is expected to easily take the top spot with a projected $48 million, which isn't terribly surprising given this franchise's pedigree of critical acclaim and box office success. »
