Pina Review (Five out of Five stars). Wim Wenders Makes a Movie for the Ages with 3D documentary Pina

Films To Watch Before You Die #29 - Blow (2001)

22 December 2011 2:38 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

D.J. Haza presents the next entry in his series of films to watch before you die...

Blow, 2001.

Directed by Ted Demme.

Starring Johnny Depp, Jordi Mollà, Penélope Cruz, Ray Liotta, Paul Reubens, Franka Potente and Rachel Griffiths.

Blow is the mind-blowing biopic of George Jung (Depp), an average guy who made $100 million smuggling and distributing cocaine in America through the 1970s for the Medellin Cartel and Pablo Escobar. It is estimated that if you sniffed cocaine in America during the 70s there was an 85 per cent chance that it came through George. Despite his fortune Jung ended up penniless and in prison where he still sits awaiting his release.

The film follows Jung from his humble beginnings in Massachusetts all the way to his incarceration. When George was a boy and his father (Liotta) filed for bankruptcy he made himself a promise that he was never going to be poor. »

The Box Set: An Old Idea Becomes A New (Pricier) Trend

21 December 2011 7:41 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

-- Musical box sets, encapsulating a portion or all of an artist's catalog, are hardly a new trend. They've been around for decades.

But as labels begin to search for more sources of income, they're increasingly using yesterday's hits to help today's bottom line, from multi-disc deluxe editions of your favorite old album to over-the-top collections of obscurities complete with cool little tchotchkes.

And they're also reaching new heights in pricing. Love U2 beyond measure? There's the new "Achtung Baby" uber-deluxe edition, a limited, numbered box set that originally retailed for $650. It includes six CDs, four DVDs, a new documentary, a magnetic puzzle box, five clear 7-inch vinyl singles, 16 art prints, an 84-page book, a sticker sheet and a pair of Bono's bug-eyed sunglasses, among many other things.

Tony Bennett fans can own his entire recorded output – more than 1,000 of his songs spread across 73 discs and three DVDs – in "Tony Bennett: The Complete Collection, »

Watch: Rolling Stones turn back time with 'No Spare Parts' video

19 December 2011 3:35 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

The Rolling Stones are still moving forward their album reissue series, and 1978's "Some Girls" got its makeover last month. This month, a little extra arrived from the set: the U.K. rockers' frequently bootlegged "No Spare Parts" got itself a music video, in addition to, finally, a formal release. The clip takes you back to the year of "Girls'" birth, asking "Where were you?" when the band was back at the top of the Billboard 200 with an album. The song itself is a melding of today and yesterday: it got some new vocals from Mick Jagger and guitar-work from Keith »

How Much Will Vanessa Get in Divorce from Kobe Bryant?

19 December 2011 8:40 AM, PST | Extra | See recent Extra news »

After Vanessa Bryant filed for divorce on Friday from Lakers superstar husband Kobe Bryant, the question of just how much she will receive in the settlement remains to be seen.

Kobe, reportedly worth anywhere from $150-300 million, will most likely give up half of his fortune to Vanessa, since the couple married 10 years ago without a prenup. Kobe and Vanessa are seeking joint custody of their daughters, Natalia, 8, and Gianna, 5.

Michael Buble Brings Christmas Tunes To 'SNL,' Host Jimmy Fallon Returns To Weekend Update For Joke-Off

19 December 2011 6:20 AM, PST | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

This weekend's Jimmy Fallon-hosted "Saturday Night Live" was like a big family Christmas get-together, reuniting many of the show's biggest stars for a holiday walk down memory lane. It was a season-best episode to close 2011.

Fallon was not shy about filling the show with the most famous characters from his own "SNL" days, kicking things off with Boston's favorite high school delinquents, Sully and Denise (Rachel Dratch). Fifteen years down the road, we find the pair up to their old tricks, but with a twist – time has actually passed and they are adults with five children (Weezer, Chubsy, Squeezebox, Hags and Baby Richard) trying to sneak into a high school dance. That's about all that's different though, the pair make out like old times ("You are!") and drink Franzia from a bladder sans box. Also back in rotation, Fallon's impressions of Jerry Seinfeld and Barry Gibb, psyching himself up »

Meet Jason Trawick: All you need to know about Britney Spears' fiance

16 December 2011 10:59 PM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

It's true -- Britney Spears will be walking down the aisle again! Brit announced on Dec. 16 that Jason Trawick, her boyfriend of three years, finally popped the question, and of course, she said yes.

So who, exactly, is Jason Trawick?

The 40-year-old talent manager used to represent Britney (and Hilary Duff, and Taylor Swift, and Paris Hilton) for William Morris Endeavor. He began representing Britney in 2006, and they started dating publicly in 2009. This year, he got a new gig running Mick Jagger's F*Star arts & entertainment at Famos LLC. Before he was at Wme, he worked for the New York Daily News.

He's credited with helping Britney get her head above water (at least professionally) after her very public meltdown -- he secured her a guest-starring gig on "How I Met Your Mother" that began to shift public opinion of her in a more positive direction.

Who Is Jason Trawick?

16 December 2011 3:51 PM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Who is Jason Trawick?

He is 40 years-old, a talent manager and the former agent of Britney Spears. He is a graduate of Michigan State University who holds and Mba from Texas A&M University. He is also what doubtless many men now consider to be one of the luckiest guys in America: the just-announced fiance of pop princess Britney Spears.

For someone who has been romantically attached to one of the world's most recognizable faces for the past two years, Trawick has remained relatively obscure in the public eye. Perhaps it's because he's been on the other side: he is a former employee of the New York Daily News and first met Spears under professional guises in 2006, when he was an agent at William Morris Endeavor Entertainment and began representing her. Trawick also represented a slew of other famous faces, mostly of the blonde-and-beautiful variety, including Taylor Swift, Hilary Duff, »

‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’ interview with actor Gary Oldman

15 December 2011 3:44 PM, PST | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

With memorable roles in movies like The Professional, JFK, and even Air Force One, Gary Oldman has gained a reputation as the villain (who usually) screams a lot. This stereotype of his legacy is now retorted by Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, in which Oldman plays George Smiley, a quiet ex-spy who is assigned to find a mole within the British secret service. In the film, directed by Tomas Alfredson, Oldman plays opposite the likes of Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, Toby Jones, Ciaran Hinds, Mark Strong, John Hurt, and more.

I sat down with the magnetic Gary Oldman in a roundtable interview to discuss the way he gets into character, why he won’t run anymore, and how Christopher Nolan helped guide him towards his latest acting direction. For very good measure, Oldman also threw in an impersonation of Al Pacino.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy opens in Chicago on December 16.

Madonna fans can rest easy. After it was announced earlier this month that Madonna would perform during the Super Bowl Xlvi Halftime show, airing February 5 next year, speculation blew up about which songs from the Material Girl's some 30-year career she would perform.

Well now website Madonnarama reports that "rehearsals for the Super Bowl performance have started this week" and that the pop legend is eyeing a set list that looks something like the cherry-picked songs copied and pasted below.

What do you think? How do you think the show would compare to the eclectic list of previous Super Bowl halftime acts from Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, The Rolling Stones, Black Eyes Peas and Usher?

What Is J. Lo Doing?

13 December 2011 6:31 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

What with her public fling with 24-year-old Casper Smart and fashion statements like the shimmering nude bodysuit circa Britney Spears in 2001, Jennifer Lopez is having a moment that seems designed to bring attention to her newfound youthfulness post-split from ex-husband Marc Anthony.

The pop star makes a short appearance in Will.i.am's new music video, "The Hardest Ever," and while it's hard to deny J. Lo's hotness factor, we have to ask ourselves what a 42-year-old mother of two is doing suggestively gyrating and crawling on all fours on the floor clad in a lacy bodysuit and sheer thigh-highs. It all begs of look-at-me desperation more appropriate for someone like, say, Kim Kardashian, not someone as reliably proven as Lopez. (Speaking of returning to youth, Mick Jagger also makes an appearance in the Black Eyed Peas member's first solo music song video).

What do you think?

Was Mick Jagger the 'vain man' in Carly Simon's hit song - Realbollywood.com News

12 December 2011 1:11 AM, PST | RealBollywood.com | See recent RealBollywood news »

London, Dec 12: Carly Simon was referring to Mick Jagger in her hit number 'You're So Vain', according to a new book.

Warren Beatty, Cat Stevens, Kris Kristofferson and David Bowie have been mooted down the years but a new book adds weight to the theory that Sir Mick Jagger was the man in question, the Telegraph reported.

A new biography of Simon, More Room In A Broken Heart, by author Stephen Davis claims that 'The Rolling Stones' vocalist and Simon were romantically involved - something that she has refused.

Sir Jagger's wife, Bianca, apparently found evidence of the affair barely a year after their 1971. »

Join me from 6.30pm on Saturday as the remaining Strictly celebrities try to dance their way into the final

Good evening, and welcome to our Strictly Come Dancing Semi-final liveblog! Believe it or not, this series started three months ago today, but we're now down to the final five, battling it out for a place in the final from the Blackpool Tower Ballroom next week. I'm excited. Are you?

Tonight each of the five remaining couples will be performing twice, which means double the dancing action, but also a show that runs for the best part of two hours without so much as an ad break. Will the BBC ever think of the poor, cold-riddled liveblogger? *blows nose*

Current form says Harry and Chelsee are a shoo-in for the final next week, but it's anyone's guess who will take the third slot, so expect an epic battle between Jason, Holly »
