Newswire: Showtime will stream Fire Walk With Me ahead of the Twin Peaks revival

1 February 2017 2:42 PM, PST | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Grab your garmonbozia and prepare yourself for David Bowie’s Southern drawl: Showtime has announced that it’ll soon be streaming David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. The frequently confusing (and critically contentious) prequel to Lynch’s frequently confusing hit TV show, Fire Walk With Me recounts the last week of teen beauty queen (and eventual plastic-wrapped murder victim) Laura Palmer’s life.

Showtime will start streaming the film on March 1, ahead of the May 21 arrival of Lynch’s revival of the show. The film stars the show’s Sheryl Lee, Kyle MacLachlan, and Ray Wise, plus some suitably weird appearances from Chris Isaak, Kiefer Sutherland, and the aforementioned Bowie. Also, it’s full of spoilers for Twin Peaks proper, so if you’re still getting caught up on the series—also streaming via Showtime—steer clear until you’re done.

Coming Distractions: Rachel Weisz plays a wicked game in this trailer for My Cousin Rachel

25 January 2017 1:25 PM, PST | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Daphne du Maurier’s 1951 novel My Cousin Rachel is a mystery-filled romance, with upper-class British people wondering just how trustworthy other upper-class British people are when one of their own becomes hopelessly infatuated with his cousin, a woman who may or may not have murdered her previous beau. This trailer for Roger Michell’s adaptation of the book leans harder on the romance angle than anything else, but the cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” and all of the yelling going on make it pretty clear that there’s some heavy stuff going on behind the sweeping vistas and outdoor sex. The film stars Rachel Weisz as the eponymous Rachel, as well as Sam Claflin, Holliday Grainger, and Iain Glen.

My Cousin Rachel will be in theaters on July 14, 2017.

Rachel Weisz is a Saucy Minx in New Trailer for Daphne du Maurier Adaptation ‘My Cousin Rachel’

25 January 2017 12:31 PM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Rachel Weisz and Sam Claflin court disgrace (and each other) in the first trailer for Roger Michell’s “My Cousin Rachel,”  an adaptation of the 1951 novel by Daphne du Maurier, most famous for penning “Rebecca” and “The Birds.” A lesser known work, the last time “My Cousin Rachel” made it to the big screen was in 1952, starring Olivia de Havilland and Richard Burton.

The novel centers around a young man named Philip (Claflin) as he plots against his mysterious and beautiful cousin, Rachel Ashley (Weisz), whom he suspects of poisoning his guardian. Philip falls under the beautiful Rachel’s spell, losing his resolve as his infatuation grows — and maybe even endangering his own life in the process.

A Forbidden Romance Blooms In First Trailer For My Cousin Rachel

25 January 2017 7:59 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Rachel Weisz and Sam Claflin indulge in a forbidden romance in the stirring first trailer for Roger Michell’s period drama, My Cousin Rachel.

Set against a suitably shrill cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game,” the snippet above introduces us to Claflin’s dashing Englishman Philip, who seeks out his distant cousin Rachel to enact revenge. Those feelings of contempt and loathing soon dissolve before his very eyes when he comes into contact with Rachel Weisz’s titular, alluring lead, sparking a forbidden romance that ruffles feathers all across the West County. Lifting inspiration from Daphne du Maurier’s novel of the same name, there’s a touch of Jane Austin to be found in My Cousin Rachel. Couple this with the gothic aesthetic and Michell may well have a sleeper hit on his hands.

Here’s the official logline:

“A dark romance, My Cousin Rachel tells the story »
