B-Sides: Hands Off Jim Carrey, He Belongs to Me

28 April 2012 12:38 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Twenty years before Twilight there was another teen movie built around a love triangle involving a vampire and a non-vampire fighting over a naive virgin. It was called Once Bitten and starred a newcomer named Jim Carrey. Unlike Twilight it was a comedy on purpose.

A young pre-Ace Ventura, pre-“In Living ColorJim Carrey starred as a teenage virgin pursued by an aging vamp played by Lauren Hutton who desperately needs to the suck the blood from the inner thigh of a male virgin in order to maintain her eternal youth. This doesn’t sit well with his chaste girlfriend (Karen Kopins).

Given how popular tweener vampire tales are and how the notion of “cougars” has become a part of the pop culture lexicon, it really is kind of amazing that a remake of Once Bitten hasn’t already come to fruition.

The 10 Greatest Reality TV Judges Ever

8 March 2012 5:00 AM, PST | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

Reality TV judging: It’s important. I can only commit to a TV talent show if I believe there are tough, fair-minded judges keeping the circus under control. Since we’re headlong into enticing seasons of The Voice and American Idol, the time is right to reflect upon the best judges in reality TV history – the ones who boast authority, smarts, sass, and fearsomeness. Oh, and some evil too!

10. Nina Garcia, Project Runway

The glamorous Marie Claire editrix has no time for fashion with a less-than-editorial edge, and she’s regularly the most intimidating part of a panel that also includes the fire-breathing Michael Kors and the perpetually aloof Heidi Klum. When she’s not dispensing displeasure at the drop of an accessory, she’s sighing with the kind of amazing contempt that warranted Meryl Streep an Oscar nom in The Devil Wears Prada.

Tom Selleck goes black tie in 1984's Lassiter.

Tom Selleck (TV’s Blue Bloods) is a suave, debonair man-about-town…and a notorious thief—in the 1984 action adventure crime film Lassiter.

Whether he’s charming high society’s elite at a black-tie dinner or emptying their safes in the dead of night, Nick Lassiter certainly excels at what he does. On the eve of World War II, Lassiter finds himself in London, where local authorities are well aware of his history as a notorious cat burglar. When word leaks out that a cache of uncut diamonds is to be smuggled through the German embassy, Lassiter is coerced by police and the FBI to perform one last heist on their behalf.

Directed by Roger Young (Kiss the Sky), Lassiter also stars Jane Seymour (TV’s Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman), Lauren Hutton (The Joneses »
