"Twin Peaks," Episode 7 Recap: …And That's Enough Said About That

20 June 2017 7:20 AM, PDT | MUBI | See recent MUBI news »

Twin Peaks Recap is a weekly column by Keith Uhlich covering David Lynch and Mark Frost's limited, 18-episode continuation of the Twin Peaks television series. So that's how David Lynch does an info dump. First, with a cheeky, knowing scene featuring the brothers Horne: "Jerry, what's going on?" asks Ben (Richard Beymer) after his cannabis-infused sibling (David Patrick Kelly) phones him from the woods. "I think I'm high!…I don't know where I am!" Jerry screams, perhaps speaking for a good subsection of the Twin Peaks revival audience, who have, over the six prior installments, been given only glimpses of a larger picture. Narrative momentum comes in asides; the more prevalent longueurs are reserved for atmosphere and mood, for full immersion in apparent stasis.Part 7 shakes things up, following the brotherly freak-out with several story reveals that come in quick succession. But there's a niggling sense throughout all the »

'Twin Peaks' Recap: Cell-Bye Date

19 June 2017 5:09 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

Is your heart still pounding? Culminating in the escape of Agent Dale Cooper's doppelganger, tonight's Twin Peaks was tense and terrifying enough to leave you freaked out long after "Sleep Walk" on the Double R's jukebox brought the credits to a close. But before we talk about all that, let's take a look at the dogs that didn't bark. Throughout the episode, co-creators David Lynch and Mark Frost utilize the show's usual ingredients for creating supernatural suspense. The results they produce this time out, however, are completely different.

Old and New Ghostbusters May Unite in Next Movie

9 June 2017 4:14 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Sony's recent Ghostbusters reboot did not go as planned, to say the least. The very expensive Paul Feig directed, all-female take on the classic horror/comedy didn't generate enough interest worldwide to warrant a sequel. But the franchise isn't dead yet, and Ivan Reitman has some ideas about where it can go. If he has his way, he will have the latest reboot connect with the original Ghostbusters, which would unite all of the current movies in the franchise.

Yesterday was Ghostbusters Day and, in honor of the occasion, Ivan Reitman and star Ernie Hudson sat down to chat with Super News Live. Reitman talked a bit about where the franchise is going and revealed that he wanted to see this new Ghostbusters movie connect to the original and, if all goes well, he hopes to be able to make that happen in Ghostbusters 4. Here's what he had to say about it. »

Ghostbusters Director Ivan Reitman Lays Out His Plans For The Future Of The Franchise

9 June 2017 12:51 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s safe to say that last year’s Ghostbusters reboot/remake/reimagining didn’t exactly set the world on fire. Opinions vary as to the reason for its relative failure, with many arguments being made that the innate misogyny of mainstream audiences kept people away from a female-led blockbuster. My theory is the film simply wasn’t very good and squandered the talents of its impressive cast.

With Dan Ackroyd recently telling us about a studio/director clash as a result of extensive and costly reshoots, it’s doubtful that Ghostbusters is going to materialize back on screens anytime soon. But what if it were to return? That’s what the original film’s director, Ivan Reitman (who’s also planning an animated Ghostbusters feature), explored in a Facebook Live Q&A (along with Ernie Hudson) that was held to mark the annual Ghostbusters Day.

Dan Aykroyd Criticizes Ghostbusters Reboot Again, Says It Should Have Had More From Original Cast

6 June 2017 12:19 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Yesterday, Ghostbusters legend Dan Aykroyd made his feelings for 2016’s reboot very clear when he stated that it “cost too much” and stated that director Paul Feig will “not be back on the Sony lot any time soon.” Today, he’s continued to air his grievances with the movie, with the following post on his official Facebook page.

Paul Feig made a good movie and had a superb cast and plenty of money to do it. We just wish he had been more inclusive…

Posted by Dan Aykroyd on Monday, June 5, 2017

At least this time around, Aykroyd – who played Dr. Ray Stantz in the original two Ghostbusters movies – took the time to compliment the film. He admitted that “Feig made a good movie” and that the all-female cast were “superb.” However, he revealed that he thought it should have been “more inclusive” to the “originators.” Presumably, he means the original team of Ghostbusters: himself, »

"Twin Peaks," Episode 5 Recap: I Love How You Love Me

6 June 2017 3:19 AM, PDT | MUBI | See recent MUBI news »

Twin Peaks Recap is a weekly column by Keith Uhlich covering David Lynch and Mark Frost's limited, 18-episode continuation of the Twin Peaks television series. The key image in Part 5 of the revived Twin Peaks is of a woman in ecstasy. Recall, however, the subtitle that series co-creator/director David Lynch appended to his thorny 2006 masterpiece Inland Empire: "A Woman in Trouble." The line separating rapture and anguish is a blurry one, especially for Lynch's ladies, who are as likely to end up exquisitely chiseled corpses (the ubiquitous Laura Palmer; Part 2's doomed henchwoman Darya) as they are world-weary survivors. For the moment, let's focus on Rebecca "Becky" Burnett (Amanda Seyfried), daughter of Rr Diner waitress Shelly Johnson (Mädchen Amick), though Becky's last name—taken from ne'er-do-well husband Steven Burnett (Caleb Landry Jones)—obscures the identity of her father. (Dana Ashbrook's now-law-abiding Bobby Briggs is the most likely candidate, »

Twin Peaks Part 5: At Least Now We Know What the Shovels Are For

4 June 2017 8:52 PM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Amanda Seyfried has been found! The Mean Girls star finally made her debut on tonight's Twin Peaks, and just because she's playing exactly who we thought she'd be playing doesn't mean we were any less delighted to discover that she's Shelly's daughter, Becky. She's also a bit of a troublemaker thanks to her boyfriend Steven (Get Out's Caleb Landry Jones), who offered her some cocaine and took her for what appeared to be a delightful drive after she visited the Double R to ask her mom for money. Apparently, this is an ongoing thing.  Tonight's episode actually answered several questions about who various cast members are playing. Ernie Hudson showed up as an army »

Dan Aykroyd blames Paul Feig for Ghostbusters reboot troubles

4 June 2017 12:30 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Although there was an incredible amount of hate thrown at Sony’s Ghostbusters reboot from the moment it was first announced, the resulting film did receive a fairly decent reception when it hit cinemas last year. However, a box office gross of just $229 million from a $144 million budget derailed the studio’s plans for a sequel, and subsequently left the franchise in limbo once again.

Appearing on the UK’s Sunday Brunch (via SlashFilm), original Ghostbusters star and series creator Dan Aykroyd – who served as a producer on the reboot – was asked for his thoughts on the film, and while he was full of praise for the cast, he certainly wasn’t too kind to director Paul Feig:

“The girls are great in it. Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig – what a wonderful, wonderful players they are – and Leslie Jones. I was really happy with the movie, but it cost too much. »

Guest Actor in a Comedy: The Frontrunners and Dark Horses for 2017 Emmys

This category caused quite a bit of buzz last year when Peter MacNicol was nominated for “Veep” and then deemed ineligible, as he appeared in too many episodes to qualify as a guest. He was replaced by Peter Scolari of “Girls,” who went on to actually win. Well, this year both Peters are eligible and should return to the category. They’ll face off against some stiff competition, including Louis C.K., who has landed three noms for hosting “SNL” already. Dave Chapelle also hosted a popular episode of “SNL.” Jon Hamm and Fred Willard have both been nominated here before for their roles on “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and “Modern Family,” while Hugh Laurie has moved into the guest category for his returning character on “Veep.” Daveed Diggs was hilarious as Kimmy’s new love interest on “Kimmy Schmidt,” but he’s more likely to be recognized for his arc as Bow’s laidback brother on “Black-ish.” Guests »

The undersea horror movies of the late 1980s

31 May 2017 4:07 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Ryan Lambie Jun 2, 2017

Inspired by James Cameron's The Abyss, the late 80s brought with it a wave of brilliantly cheesy undersea horrors, Ryan writes...

Hollywood studios occasionally have an uncanny knack of announcing almost identical film projects at the same time. In the 1980s, we had rival police dog movies K-9 and Turner And Hooch. The 90s saw the release of rival eruption movies (Dante's Peak and Volcano), opposing killer space rock pictures (Deep Impact and Armageddon) and duelling insect comedies (Antz and A Bug's Life). We provided a detailed run-down on these rival movies back in 2015.

Around the year 1989, meanwhile, film producers briefly fell in love with a curiously specific genre: undersea sci-fi horror. Between January 1989 and the spring of 1990, no fewer than five films all came out with a similar theme - DeepStar Six was first, followed by Leviathan, Lords Of The Deep, »
