New Last Days In The Desert Images Feature Tye Sheridan, Ciarán Hinds, and Ayelet Zurer in the Biblical Drama Starring Ewan McGregor as Jesus

18 December 2014 8:08 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

There are a lot of must-see films for me at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, and hovering around the top of the list is Rodrigo Garcia's Last Days in the Desert.  The plot takes place during Jesus' forty days in the desert, but here's the twist—Ewan McGregor is playing both Jesus and the Devil, and Jesus is tested by the Devil when confronted by the fate of a family in crisis.  We previously saw McGregor as Jesus, and now we have images of the family—Tye Sheridan (Mud) as "The Boy",  Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones) as "The Father", and Ayelet Zurer (Man of Steel) as "The Mother". Hit the jump to check out the new Last Days in the Desert images.  The film will make its world premiere on January 25th at 6:30pm in the Eccles Theater. Here’s the official synopsis for Last Days In the Desert »

What's Up With Ewan McGregor, From 'Son of a Gun' to Sundance as Jesus? (Clips)

16 December 2014 4:10 PM, PST | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

The Scottish thesp will soon be seen in Sundance epic "Last Days in the Desert," a chronicle of Jesus' 40 days of fasting starring McGregor as both Christ and the Devil. "Last Days" is directed by Rodrigo Garcia, helmer of the handsomely made "Albert Nobbs" and earlier, more intimate passion projects "Nine Lives" and "Mother and Child," which tangled the lives of women in interconnected vignettes. One of the most hotly anticipated Sundance 2015 titles, "Last Days" was shot in five weeks by Emmanuel Lubezki, who reunites here with "The Tree of Life"'s Tye Sheridan, costarring alongside McGregor and Ciaran Hinds. In the above image, Ewan McGregor channels the ragged and starving Jesus, but it's hard not to think of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the cloaked Jedi Master of "The Phantom Menace." Whether Scorsese's "The Last Temptation of Christ" with Willem Dafoe or Gibson's "Passion of the Christ" with »

'Miami Vice' Movie Reboot in Development at Universal

12 December 2014 2:48 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Just eight years after Universal Pictures brought Miami Vice to the big screen, the studio is currently developing yet another reboot, and is currently seeking screenwriters for the project. The news comes from Latino Review's El Mayimbe, although no further details are given. It isn't known if Michael Mann, who directed the 2006 remake and served as an executive producer on the original Miami Vice TV series, will be involved with this new take.

The 2006 Miami Vice remake only took in $63 million domestic during its theatrical run, but earned $163.5 million worldwide, from a $135 million budget. Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx starred as Crockett and Tubbs, originally played by Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas in the TV series, which ran from 1984 to 1990. It remains to be seen how this version will be different (or similar) to the previous two incarnations, or how long this may take to get off the ground, »

First Look: Ewan McGregor is Jesus Christ in Sundance's 'Last Days in the Desert'

10 December 2014 3:54 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Ewan McGregor is darkness and light. The two-time Golden Globe nominee is playing the dual role of Jesus and the Devil in the forthcoming Sundance drama "Last Days in the Desert" - and the first photo of him as the former has arrived. It's pretty much what you'd expect - long brown hair, tattered robes, beard - but the film takes off from a different perspective than we've seen: namely, an "imagined chapter from his forty days of fasting and praying in the desert. On his way out of the wilderness, Jesus struggles with the Devil over the fate of a family in crisis, setting for himself a dramatic test." Directed by Rodrigo Garcia ("Albert Nobbs," "Passengers") and also starring Ciarán Hinds, Ayelet Zurer and Tye Sheridan, "Last Days in the Desert" is set to debut as part of Sundance's Premieres lineup. Check out the photo below. The 2015 Sundance Film Festival runs from Jan. »

First Image From Last Days In The Desert Features Ewan McGregor as Jesus In Exile

While absent from all of the big Sundance updates we were posting earlier this week, director Rodrigo Garcia's new film Last Days In the Desert will indeed be playing the festival next month.  Starring Ewan McGregor as Jesus, this film is bound to pick up the usual dust that accompanies movies that address this topic without self-identifying as "faith based."  What looks unimpeachable, however,  is the visual aesthetic of the film, which was shot by Emmanuel Lubezki. Hit the jump for a better look at the Last Days In the Desert image of Ewan McGregor as Jesus.  The film also stars Tye Sheridan, Ciarán Hinds, and Ayelet Zurer.  It premieres on January 25th at 6:30Pm at the Eccles Theater as part of Sundance 2015. Ewan McGregor Is The Devil And Jesus In First Image From Last Days In The Desert

9 December 2014 1:45 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Since it was announced back in February that Ewan McGregor had joined Last Days In The Desert, talk of the film dried up. Until yesterday, that is. With the cinematic calendar’s most prolific film festival, Sundance, set to start next month, a list of ficks slated to premiere hit the web. Included in that list was of course, Last Days, which has now debuted its first image. Courtesy of EW, we can now reveal a first look at Ewan McGregor as Jesus… and the Devil!

As first glimpses go, it’s a simple shot of McGregor looking dusty and disheveled, which he probably should be considering where he’s been. In this “imagined chapter” from Christ’s 40 days in the desert, the Scottish thesp plays both Jesus and Satan. This harks back to our first report on the project which outlined the story as “a holy man and a »

Sundance ’15: Baumbach, Fleck/Boden, Pulcini/Berman, Ponsoldt & Another Swanberg Among Premieres

8 December 2014 1:25 PM, PST | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

Last year’s slate of seventeen Narrative Premieres (excluding secret screenings of Boyhood and Nymphomaniac: Vol. I) refreshingly included works from first time filmmakers. I hadn’t seen it coming but Little Accidents and The One I Love were included among the likes of Calvary, Frank and Love is Strange. 2015 will be a true we Swanberg family affair with Joe Swanberg joining wife Kris (Unexpected) with a feature as well in Digging for Fire. James Ponsoldt is officially four for four with Sundance — his latest End of the Tour should be a slam dunk for the Eccles. Sticking to the numbers game… we’ll have a lovely bedfellow pairings of Kyle Patrick Alvarez’s already announced The Stanford Prison Experiment which is going to be mentioned in many loglines alongside Michael Almereyda’s Experimenter - about the Milgram experiment. Among the filmmaking duos we were expecting, we find Mississippi Grind »

Festival director John Cooper noted that while this year’s 16 Premieres selections will be among the buzziest, most commercial titles in Park City, “they’re not without an independent feel to them, and that’s what I’m always looking for. There is a very independent spirit behind these films.”

By way of example, Cooper cited “Last Days in the Desert,” a description-resistant foray into father-son territory from Garcia, a director known for his stories about women (“Nine Lives,” “Mother and Child”); John Crowley’s “Brooklyn, »

'Frozen 2' Is Happening Says Star Idina Menzel

28 November 2014 2:59 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Disney's Frozen was one of the most talked about movies of 2013, taking in just over $400 million domestically and over $1.2 billion worldwide during its theatrical run, making it the highest-grossing animated movie of all-time, and fifth best among all movies. The studio did announce in September that they are making a short film entitled Frozen Fever, set to debut next spring. There are also Frozen characters appearing on ABC's Once Upon a Time, with a stage musical currently in development and a Frozen attraction debuting at Disney World in 2016. So what about a sequel?

With all of its success, many have wondered why a theatrical sequel to Frozen hasn't been announced yet? For a while, it looked as though Disney had no interest in pursuing a big screen follow-up. But during an interview with The Telegraph, voice actress Idina Menzel, who portrays Elsa, claims that the sequel, the stage musical and »
