Nigel Hawthorne, who co-starred in Yes, Minister, one of Britain's most popular and long-running sitcoms, but was best known in the U.S. for his Oscar-nominated performance in The Madness of King George, died this morning (Wednesday) at his home in England. He was 72. Death was attributed to a heart attack. (The BBC noted that he had been battling cancer for the last 18 months.) Only three weeks ago, on Dec. 2, he co-starred with Whoopi Goldberg in the TNT movie Call Me Claus, playing Santa Claus. Despite his fragile health -- he had been undergoing chemotherapy -- he had helped promote the movie, which was quickly released on the home video market in time for the holidays.
