‘Stranger Things’: 19 Totally ‘80s Pop Culture References That Should Be in Season 2

18 October 2017 2:10 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Stranger Things 2” returns just in time for Halloween, both in the real world and in the eerie town of Hawkins, Indiana conceived in the nostalgic minds of The Duffer Brothers. The action picks up three days before Halloween 1984, which means that the year will soon be coming to a close. For those who may not have been alive or perhaps have a shaky memory of the time, 1984 was a big year for memorable events and in pop culture.

The first season reveled in bringing the time period alive in all of its totally ‘80s glory, from Dungeons & Dragons gaming sessions and Eggo waffles to homages to “E.T.,” “The Shining,” and “Rambo.” Hell, even star Winona Ryder’s presence is a timely tribute since she made her early career in such iconic ‘80s films as “Lucas,” “Beetlejuice,” and “Heathers.”

The new Curb Your Enthusiasm is appalling slapstick – what was Larry thinking?

13 October 2017 3:39 AM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

The one-time king of sitcom has returned with an awful slapstick-and-catchphrase version of Curb that’s like fourth-rate Benny Hill. Prettay, prettay bad

Larry David doesn’t know when to stop. Obviously this is true of his fictionalised incarnation, but it’s also increasingly true of the real Larry David – the comedy genius who has, over the course of an amazing career, reinvented the sitcom not once but twice.

Given its initial strangeness, Curb Your Enthusiasm has been remarkably influential. Because variations on the format are part of the language of television now, it’s easily forgotten how original the show seemed when it started. Subsequently, everyone from Jack Dee to Michael Barrymore and David Hasselhoff has tried something vaguely – or indeed embarrassingly – approximate. So now, it’s just another sitcom. In any field of creative enterprise, pioneers are doomed to fall back into the pack as everyone else catches up. »

Celebrities Dupe Public on Social Media in New ITV Series ‘Celebrity Showmance’ (Exclusive)

15 September 2017 1:32 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

British broadcaster ITV is looking to build on the summer success of surf-and-sex show “Love Island” with “Celebrity Showmance”, in which pairs of celebrities use social media to try to fool the public into believing they are an item.

The show features six celebrities who form three unlikely couples and then set out to get as much attention as possible from unwitting members of the public on Twitter, Instagram, and other social media. The faux couple that gets the most “likes” wins the show. Keshet U.K. is making “Celebrity Showmance,” which was created by its creative director David Williams, and ITV will launch the show in a primetime slot on its ITV2 channel next month.

Pop-star-turned-eco-warrior Abz and Chloe Sims, one of the stars of reality series “The Only Way Is Essex,” form one couple; socialite Lady Victoria Hervey and footballer Jamie O’Hara form another. The third pairing is of Hayley Hasselhoff, the »

Stan Lee Improvised While Filming “Awesome” Thor: Ragnarok Cameo

11 September 2017 6:55 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

What’s a Marvel movie without a scene-stealing cameo from the great Stan Lee?

From Spider-Man: Homecoming to X-Men: The Last Stand, the Powers That Be have always reserved space in their big-name tentpoles for the comic book legend. And Thor: Ragnarok is no different.

Due to arrive in theaters this November, word is Lee’s cameo opposite the God of Thunder is his funniest yet, which is really saying something considering Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 contained not one, but two appearances from the 94-year-old – Stan Lee also cropped up during the zany, downright unforgettable Inferno music video, which also had room in its ranks for former Baywatch star David Hasselhoff.

The exact details of Stan Lee’s involvement in Thor: Ragnarok remain under lock and key, but while appearing at the Wizard World Nashville panel this past weekend, Lee’s manager Max Anderson spoke more about how »

The iconic David Hasselhoff is such a huge star that he was responsible for the Baywatch remake's box office success overseas, despite the movie being a critical and commercial flop in the U.S. And the fact that he only has a very minor cameo. That's some certified star power right there. Everybody loves The Hoff, a theme which is explored from a bizarre new angle in the comedy Killing Hasselhoff, which is available now on DVD and Digital HD formats. Ryan Downey recently sat down to chat with David Hasselhoff, getting his thoughts on this outrageous comedy that puts a target on The Hoff's back. He also learned quite a bit more about the man and his persona.

David Hasselhoff Has an Idea To Bring Back Knight Rider

28 August 2017 5:30 PM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

There are a lot of people who won’t remember Knight Rider but will have seen a reference to it or two in their consumption of modern media. For example, Agents of Mayhem had a trailer with a speech-capable car that was a clear homage to the franchise, though to be fair, the entire video game is a R-rated parody of a number of famous 80s properties. Regardless, those who are not so familiar with Knight Rider should know that the franchise started with a TV show of the same name that was centered around a man named Michael Knight, who

John Cena and Kevin Hart reportedly wanted for Knight Rider movie

27 August 2017 3:15 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

A feature adaptation of the classic 80s TV series Knight Rider has been in development for over 15 years now, and if Screen Rant is to be believed, The Weinstein Company may finally be ready to bring Michael Knight and Kitt to the big screen.

According to the site, the studio wants WWE star John Cena for the David Hasselhoff role as Michael Knight, with Kevin Hart lending his voice to Kitt. Apparently the project is being envisioned as an action-comedy, with a tone similar to that of the successful 21 Jump Street franchise.

An action-comedy version of Knight Rider was rumoured back in 2014, with Chris Pratt and Danny McBride reportedly offered roles, while a mysterious trailer for Hasselhoff-headlined Knight Rider Heroes also surfaced back in December 2015, although nothing has been heard since. Meanwhile, Justin Lin (Star Trek Beyond) is working on a digital Knight Rider series for Machinima, and just this »

Review: Killing Hasselhoff

27 August 2017 10:21 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Never being a fan of Knight Rider, I never really paid attention to David Hasselhoff, but gathered he was a good-looking actor with limited range and skills. Somewhere along the way, he continued getting work in projects both good and bad and built a fan base (I hear he’s really big in Germany). As a result, I missed when he crossed the cultural equator and became comfortable with the ridicule and self-parody. He’s accepted where he fits in pop culture and has gone on to embrace it as witnessed by his hysterical ‘70s-era music video found on the Blu-ray of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

And now, from Universal Home Entertainment, is Killing Hasselhoff, a direct-to-dvd release that finds him the target of an amateur assassin. This sloppy, slight comedy stars Ken Jeong as a nightclub owner in debt to loan shark Wasserstein (Will Sasso). Unable to »
