Cult Horror, Film Noir, and Sci-Fi Movies Tonight on TCM: Ulmer Remembered

Edgar G. Ulmer movies on TCM: 'The Black Cat' & 'Detour' Turner Classic Movies' June 2017 Star of the Month is Audrey Hepburn, but Edgar G. Ulmer is its film personality of the evening on June 6. TCM will be presenting seven Ulmer movies from the mid-1930s to the mid-1960s, including his two best-known efforts: The Black Cat (1934) and Detour (1945). The Black Cat was released shortly before the officialization of the Christian-inspired Production Code, which would castrate American filmmaking – with a few clever exceptions – for the next quarter of a century. Hence, audiences in spring 1934 were able to witness satanism in action, in addition to other bizarre happenings in an art deco mansion located in an isolated area of Hungary. It may have all gone quiet regarding news on the modern day remake of the Blob, but reports are surfacing that the project is still bubbling away behind closed doors and even has X-Men and Kingsman: The Golden Circle actress, Halle Berry attached to star.

The Expendables 2 and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider director Simon West is still stated to be at the helm of the reimagining of The Blob, which will be the third outing of this story. Another small development has arisen too which could have thrown a spanner in the works for Samuel L. Jackson. Jackson has been attached to star for a while now; he last gave an update on the status of the progress two months ago, revealing the film was being financed by China. However, according to the Swengroup (Dear, Demonic) website, Jackson’s name is nowhere to be found.

Is Halle Berry Climbing On Board The Blob Remake?

B-movie classic The Blob is getting another remake. Why? I couldn’t tell you, but here we are. Goldcrest Films is moving forward with the project and the studio has set The Expendables 2 helmer Simon West to direct.

The Blob, though received with mixed reviews at the time of its release, is now held up as a prime example of B-movie entertainment. It birthed a sequel, too, in the form of Larry Hagman’s 1972 flick Beware! The Blob, and was previously remade in 1988 by Chuck Russell.
