‘The Martian’ meets ‘Room’ in this new Gary Oldman movie

27 May 2016 6:02 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Confession: I hadn’t heard anything about The Space Between Us before clicking on the trailer for it today. Watching it, seeing the trailer’s opening seconds show a crew of astronauts bound for Mars, I thought, “Oh man, these guys must hate that they’re releasing this in the shadow of The Martian.” The rest of the trailer banished that thought completely. Yes, The Space Between Us starts with scientists on Mars. But, despite one line in this preview that is the very three words of The Martian’s tagline (“Bring him home”), it looks like a totally different movie, one that may have more in common with Room than with Ridley Scott’s movie about the Red Planet. It looks like most of this will take place on Earth (and that doesn’t mean at Jpl). The Space Between Us is about a boy named Gardner. On the »

Writer and director Cameron Crowe appears to be getting back to his Almost Famous roots with his new Showtime series, Roadies, starring Luke Wilson and Carla Gugino. Similar to Almost Famous, Roadies follows a band on a nationwide tour; however, unlike the 2001 film, it won’t center on the band members but instead gives its attention to the “backstage workers” who have built a family throughout the years among themselves, and in this latest trailer for the show, family is truly the main focus. Per Showtime, Roadies “gives an insider’s look at the reckless, romantic, funny and often poignant lives of a committed group

Filmmaker Cameron Crowe and producer J.J. Abrams have released the second trailer for their forthcoming Showtime comedy, Roadies. The series focuses on a road crew, the behind-the-scenes people who make concerts happen and portrays life on the road.

"You people love drama," declares Imogen Poots' character during the video, and indeed there is plenty of drama with a dose of humor thrown in, including a stalker sneaking backstage, a naked dude (actually two), an apparent threesome and a gun being fired. Will Jamal Lyon be singing the sound of silence when Empire returns for Season 3 this fall?

After all, when last we saw Jussie Smollett’s rising pop-star character in the Season 2 finale, he’d vowed to hang up his mic until his troubled family ended its cycle of violence and treachery — then made good on said promise by failing to perform at his father Lucious’ twisted nuptials to ex-fiancée Anika (who happened to be carrying Lucious’ grandbaby).

Space Between Us Trailer Tracks the First Human Born on Mars

25 May 2016 1:53 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Last year, sci-fi fans took an unforgettable journey to Mars with the critically-acclaimed blockbuster The Martian, which followed the plight of an astronaut (Matt Damon) stuck on the Red Planet as he tries to find a way back to Earth. This year, Stx Entertainment will return to Mars for another inspiring, but much different tale in The Space Between Us, arriving in theaters August 19. Today we have the first trailer courtesy of Youtube and the poster for this drama, that could be one of this summer's sleeper hits.

Asa Butterfield is From Mars in First Trailer for 'The Space Between Us'

25 May 2016 12:44 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"Bring him home!" Stx Entertainment has debuted the official trailer for Peter Chelsom's The Space Between Us, about a boy who was born and raised on Mars. Asa Butterfield plays the boy, now aged 16, who finally returns to Earth and discovers a whole new planet for the first time. Of course, there's a love story and he falls for a "street smart girl in Colorado named Tulsa", played by Britt Robertson, but must deal with his own physical struggles. The full cast includes Carla Gugino, Gary Oldman, Bd Wong, Janet Montgomery, and Jenny Gabrielle. This gets a bit cheesy, as expected when there's a love story like this, but it has a sweet side to it that makes it hard to resist. I like the concept of a person being born on Mars and discovering Earth for the first time, I'm just not sure if this is the best version of that. »

First Trailer For The Space Between Us Finds Asa Butterfield Marooned On The Red Planet

25 May 2016 12:19 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Peter Chelsom’s romantic sci-fi The Space Between Us may be rooted in the same galactic neighborhood as The Martian – not lest because of its story revolving around a human marooned on the Red Planet – but as today’s first trailer attests, the Asa Butterfield-led flick opens up a decidedly different tale of one outsider trying to assimilate into the norm.

Buoyed by Gary Oldman’s pioneering CEO, channeling Elon Musk and his aerospace company SpaceX, The Space Between Us begins with humanity pushing to colonize Mars, sending off a handful of astronauts to maintain and grow a space base on our neighbouring planet.

But an unexpected pregnancy not only jeopardizes the mission, but it also introduces Asa Butterfield as the first human to be born on the Red Planet – a true Martian, if you will – seeding a story that explores existential themes of where Asa’s Gardner Elliot belongs in the solar system, »

The first Martian comes to Earth in the new trailer for The Space Between Us

25 May 2016 10:53 AM, PDT | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

Seeing how colonizing Mars seems to be a pretty real possibility, it’s no surprise that we’ve seen a number of Mars-themed movies lately. The Space Between Us is another tale set partly on the Red Planet.

The first trailer for The Space Between Us was just released, and it looks like a very different take on the life-on-Mars genre. It stars Asa Butterfield as the first and only child born on Mars, whose only interaction with Earth life is through a webcam. Upon finally travelling to Earth, he is determined to find both his father and the girl he knew through his computer. However, his Martian body can’t handle Earth’s gravity, so he literally risks his life to have a normal teenage Earth experience.

Britt Robertson, Carla Gugino, and Gary Oldman also star in The Space Between Us, which is in Cineplex theatres August 16th. Check out the new trailer below. »

Asa Butterfield is The Martian in First Trailer For ‘The Space Between Us’

25 May 2016 9:35 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Despite what the Golden Globes members insist, we wouldn’t quite classify Ridley Scott‘s The Martian as a comedy. However, if you’re looking for a lighter Mars-set tale with a hefty dose of romance, a film landing this summer should pique your interest.  The Space Between Us follows the first human born on Mars (Asa Butterfield) who heads to Earth to experience everything it has to offer, including, of course, love.

The first trailer has now arrived and it feels almost like a Room-esque drama in the sense of experiencing  the world through new eyes. While we’ll have to see if the overtly sentimental tone works, it could be a nice change of pace for the sci-fi genre. Directed by Peter Chelsom and also starring Gary Oldman, Carla Gugino, and Britt Robertson, check out the trailer and poster below.

Although Wayward Pines was initially conceived as a 10-episode, limited event series, star Carla Gugino says she couldn’t help but get excited to return to the role of Kate Hewson after Fox ordered a second season of the twisty, sci-fi drama.

There’ll be one noticable difference in Gugino’s character, however, when Season 2 kicks off (tonight, 9/8c): “Kate has always been a physically active character in this world, but [the premiere finds her] trapped in a hospital bed. That was  was for sure challenging and very strange,” she says.
