While Jude Law has a great deal of charm and has used it to great effect over the course of his career, he has never been an actor that you could label as a comedian. While he has been known to take parts in more light-hearted movies like Sherlock Holmes, The Holiday and I Heart Huckabees, his greatest performances have been in movies involving strong, heartfelt emotions. That said, it's always great to see a performer who who wants to expand his or her range and give themselves a challenge, and it looks like that's what Law intends to do with Don Hemingway. Jude Law will be brushing up on his safecracking skills soon. No, we’re not trying to insinuate that he’s turning to a life of crime – he’s going to be playing a personable thief in Dom Hemingway, the latest film from The Matador’s Richard Shepard.Announced as part of the latest wave of movies looking to drum up either financing or buzz at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Dom Hemingway will follow the titular character, a man describe as “a larger than life safecracker with a loose fuse who is also funny, profane and dangerous.”The plot finds him freshly released from prison, and looking to collect on what he’s owed thanks to him keeping schtum about what he knew on his last job. Richard E Grant is also among the cast, though we don’t yet know what his role will be.Producer Jeremy Thomas »

Is it a backhanded compliment when I say Jude Law finally started to get my attention this past year? But I do mean it; there was a fun, wonderfully hammy & paranoid turn in Steven Soderbergh‘s Contagion, along with a great, crucial cameo in Martin Scorsese‘s Hugo. (Sherlock Holmes passed by me because there are limits.) With upcoming roles in Joe Wright‘s Anna Karenina, the impressive-looking Rise of the Guardians, and Soderbergh‘s 2013 effort, The Bitter Pill, he might actually become someone whose name I don’t simply shrug at.
Dom Hemingway has a shot in aiding that effort, too. THR tells us he’s agreed to lead the film, which is described as a revenge-fueled black comedy about a safe cracker, he being of the titular sort, that is “funny, profane, dangerous,” and short-tempered, to boot. After finishing up a twelve-year prison sentence and being put back into society, »

At this point in time, Jude Law seems to have found his place in the Hollywood star system. He's been cropping up in movies for over fifteen years, but he was always more of a character actor than a leading man, and when pushed into more traditional star roles, in films like "Enemy At The Gates," "Cold Mountain" and "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow," he always sat a little uncomfortably. But these days, he gets to play second fiddle in the mega-hit "Sherlock Holmes" franchise, a far more natural fit, which gives him the freedom to tackle quirkier supporting roles in films like "Contagion."
But for the right project, his leading man days aren't over, and the actor's just signed up to a very promising-sounding dark comedy, with the Hollywood Reporter bringing news that Law is now attached to "Dom Hemingway," a new film written and directed by Richard Shepard, »

James Wood says BBC2 sitcom's cast are 'too bloody successful' but hopes to make a third series in 2013
The writer of Rev has admitted there will not be a third series of the award-winning BBC2 sitcom this year because the cast, including Tom Hollander and Olivia Colman, are "too bloody successful".
So far the BBC has made two series and a Christmas special, and has attracted a range of impressive guest stars including Ralph Fiennes, Richard E Grant, Hugh Bonneville, Geoffrey Palmer, James Purefoy and the veteran actor Sylvia Syms.
James Wood, the co-creator with Hollander of the comedy about a London inner-city vicar, told MediaGuardian: "The cast are too bloody successful."
Wood said he was "cautiously optimistic" about getting the cast together in 2013 but this could not be guaranteed.
"The other thing of course we need to do is to make sure that we maintain the same standards as with the other two series, »

This week's Game of Thrones was entitled "The Ghost of Harrenhal", which it turns out is not a Goosebumps episode about a haunted prep school dorm, but rather a reference to the fact that things are about to get real with Arya's new friend in the ruins of ye ole castle.
Let's jump in, shall we?
The late, mediocre Renly Baratheon (Gethin Anthony)
We start off in Renly's well-appointed shabby chic bungalow. Enjoy the view, because it's probably the last we'll see of it! Renly (Gethin Anthony) and Caitlin (Michelle Fairley) agree that despite their various war efforts they can still be BFFs and get their nails done together and go to brunch and talk about boys because Robb has no interest in the Iron Throne - so basically they can continue on the same relationship that Robert and Ned had, which ended So Well For Everyone, right?

Intoxication and inhibition has had its place in the film narrative since the cameras first rolled, an integral part of many comedies, horrors and tragedies, Dionysus's worldly gift inspiring everything from mirth-filled parodies to hardcore drinking games.

Chicago – The best scene in Phyllida Lloyd’s biopic, “The Iron Lady,” takes place in a doctor’s office as former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher insists that she’s doing perfectly well, thank you very much. The bullheaded determination that fueled her spectacular success and garnered a fiery backlash has now manifested itself in her elderly years as a warm but firm stubbornness.
As Thatcher, Meryl Streep performs Olympian miracles with the dialogue, allowing her wistful passion to shine through her fatigued frustration. The ever-immersive actress vanishes behind the makeup of her longtime collaborator, J. Roy Helland, and the remarkable prosthetics of Mark Coulier (all three earned well-deserved Oscars for their efforts). When the doctor asks how she’s feeling, Thatcher delivers a disgruntled monologue about how modern society cares more about feelings than thoughts and ideas. A sudden interruption to their conversation provides an out for Thatcher, and Streep »

Taken collectively, this mania for all things Titanic feels less like a respectful commemoration and more like a smash-and-grab job
Sunday marks the 100th anniversary of the Titanic anniversary – a fact you might somehow have missed, because it's not like television is making much fuss about the occasion. There's only been that Julian Fellowes mini-series, the Len Goodman series, a flurry of documentaries about every conceivable variation on the Titanic theme, and constant, unrelenting trails and promos for this weekend's programming.
This includes, but is not limited to: an ITV show where Richard E Grant reads letters from Titanic passengers; a Channel 4 drama documentary told from the perspective of the Titanic's boiler room staff; a BBC2 commemorative Titanic concert featuring Joss Stone and Bryan Ferry; and, on The History Channel, a programme called Nazi Titanic that I'm too weary to even think about. So, really, there's hardly been »
