Alice Cooper talks about his 'Dark Shadows' cameo -- and his many other memorable onscreen adventures

3 May 2012 8:40 AM, PDT | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

It doesn’t come as a huge surprise to discover horror movie-lovers Alice Cooper and Tim Burton had plenty to talk about when the rocker turned up to film a cameo in the director’s new, Johnny Depp-starring movie Dark Shadows. “We had dinner one night in London and we both knew every point of reference,” Cooper recalls. “If he would say, ‘Suspiria’ I would say ‘Dario Argento.’ I see the humor in horror as much as Tim or Johnny does, so we really do fit together.”

Best Movie Ever? "Victor/Victoria"

2 May 2012 10:08 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

Like Nine to Five, this week's candidate for Best Movie Ever is righteously ridiculous. It's sophisticated and bawdy as hell. In fact, it's a whole bunch of awesome dichotomies: wacky but meaningful, musical but conversational, broad but subversive, hilarious but concerned with very real taboos. And more than anything, it's fun, which is more than enough to qualify it for the finest film ever. It is the saucy superiority of Victor/Victoria, a movie that's so shockingly whimsical and warm, I'm willing to bet -- if you've seen it before -- you're lighting up just remembering your favorite moment or character. I know I am. And I'll save her for last.

Let's jump back to Paris in the '30s, contemplate the ferocious morality of Julie Andrews and her character's commitment to drag, and relive the gayest and feyest and flyest of '80s comedies. C'est magnifique!

1. Julie Andrews. Full stop. »

The Rockford Files: Movie Being Developed for Vince Vaughn

18 April 2012 5:17 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

NBC's reboot of The Rockford Files failed to move forward as a TV series but now a feature film is in the works.

According to Deadline, David Levien and Brian Koppelman have been hired by Universal Pictures to write a Rockford Files movie, based on the 1974-80 TV series. The film is being developed as a star vehicle for Vince Vaughn. The actor and his older sister, Victoria Vaughn, will produce through their Wild West Picture Show Productions company which operates out of Universal.

James Garner stars in the original TV show as down-and-out private eye Jim Rockford. Created by Roy Huggins and Stephen J. Cannell, Rockford was a private eye who'd served time in San Quentin due to a wrongful conviction.

Unlike other detective characters of the day, Rockford was often disheveled, would use his charms and feet to get »

Vince Vaughn New Show In Development As Well

Vince Vaughn Looks Poised For A Comeback

Word around the campfire is Vince Vaughn is currently developing an original series for television, alongside Lawrence Konner, whose writing credits include such shows as The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire.  This news is hot on the heels that Vaughn is to star in a film version of the old James Garner P.I. show, The Rockford Files.  It’s looking like Vaughn is poised for a comeback that no one had been clamoring for, but after which everyone will be grateful for.

According to Deadline, the show is to be focused on “global private security operatives,” which I’m taking to either mean either balls-to-the-wall soldiers of fortune, or a buncha over-caffeinated guys in vans listening to a lot of hidden microphones.  Vaughn’s statement doesn’t do much to clear this ambiguity up: “This compelling yet secretive world we are exploring is »

Vince Vaughn Taking on The Rockford Files?

18 April 2012 9:07 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Last year, Vince Vaughn had a dilemma: His buddy-comedy with Kevin James was one of his worst-reviewed in some time; in fact, The Dilemma just missed out on making back its $70 million budget.

In response, Vaughn seems to be making safer movie choices. First, he teamed with Jonah Hill and Ben Stiller for the upcoming comedy Neighborhood Watch. Then came the announcement he's re-teaming with his Wedding Crashers co-star Owen Wilson for the comedy The Internship (which starts shooting this summer).

Now comes news that Vaughn is looking to headline an adaptation of the TV series The Rockford Files, which originally ran from 1974-1980 on NBC and has remained in syndication ever since. Originally played by James Garner, the character of private investigator Jim Rockford seems like a great fit for Vaughn. A Korean War veteran (likely updated for the movie, if used at all), Rockford spent a few years »

Vince Vaughn to Star in The Rockford Files

18 April 2012 8:43 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Another '70s cop show is about to make the jump to the big screen as Universal Pictures is currently in the process of setting up a feature film adaptation of The Rockford Files. The original show aired between 1974 and 1980 on NBC and starred James Garner as Jim Rockford, a private eye who spent a few years in prison before setting up shop in a mobile home near Malibu Beach. It was created by novelist Roy Huggins, the man behind such memorable shows as The Fugitive and Maverick (the latter of which also starred James Garner). Vince Vaughn is attached to star and produce in the movie, which leads to one very important question: will this be a comedy or a drama? According to Deadline, Universal was contemplating a TV reboot of The Rockford Files up until last year with Dermot Mulroney in the lead role. The project was shelved »

Vince Vaughn to Star in The Rockford Files Movie

18 April 2012 3:04 AM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

Universal Pictures is moving forward with a big screen adaptation of "The Rockford Files," a popular TV series that ran on NBC from 1974-80 and starred James Garner as a private investigator. The studio has set David Levien and Brian Koppelman (Walking Tall, Ocean's Thirteen) to write the script, and Vince Vaughn is attached to play Rockford, the lead character. In the original series, Rockford was a private detective who'd spent a few years in San Quentin prison before being pardoned. He worked and lived out of a mobile home near the beach in Malibu, and unlike most of his TV detective peers, he dressed disheveled, and mostly used his charm and guile to talk his way out of trouble, instead of shooting. »

Vince Vaughn is set to step into the shoes of James Garner, as a movie of The Rockford Files moves closer…

The latest television show of old to be pillaged for the big screen looks set to be The Rockford Files. The 1970s NBC series saw James Garner star as Jim Rockford, the cop turned Pi, but for the new movie version? It looks like Vince Vaughn is set to star.

Vaughn is also set to co-produce the film, with Universal Pictures hiring Brian Koppelman and David Levien to pen the screenplay for it.

It’s early days for the film yet, and Vince Vaughn has a project or two to film beforehand. Don’t be surprised if The Rockford Files goes into production next year, though…

Vince Vaughn To Star In Rockford Files Movie

17 April 2012 9:50 PM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

Hollywood has finally made it down the rehash line to The Rockford Files, the James Garner vehicle of the late ’70s that brought the former Maverick star back into the American conscience after twelve years of relative floundering.  Word has it Vince Vaughn will revive the role of the Trans-Am driving ex-con private eye for Universal Pictures.

According to Deadline, the writing team of David Levien and Brian Koppelman have been tapped to write the project.  The duo previously brought you Rounders, and more recently (and regrettably), Ocean’s Thirteen.

If you don’t remember The Rockford Files, you’re probably not in your late thirties or early forties.  Take my word for it, for 122 episodes, it was the goods.  The show opened with Rockford’s voice squawking out of a reel-to-reel answering machine sitting on the Pi’s desk alongside a perpetual game of solitaire, before smashing into one »

Vince Vaughn Locks Down Lead in The Rockford Files

17 April 2012 6:30 PM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

I've never seen an episode of "The Rockford Files," but perhaps some of our readers have. The show aired on NBC back in the late 70s and starred James Garner as a wrongly convicted felon who serves a prison sentence and becomes a private detective after he gets out. He lazily cruises the Los Angeles coast, living out of a mobile home in Malibu and solving various mysteries along the way.

Deadline reports that Vince Vaughn is set to produce and star in a film adaptation of The Rockford Files for Universal Pictures. Universal owns NBC, so it all fits nicely together. Vaughn seems like a decent fit for the character, who was known in the old show for using his charm and quick witted responses to getting himself out of bad spots instead of using Vic Mackey-esque brute force. (That's a reference to "The Shield," for those who have never seen it. »

Vince Vaughn Reopens 'The Rockford Files'

17 April 2012 5:44 PM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

A movie of "The Rockford Files?" Vince Vaughn is on the case.

The star of this summer's "Neighborhood Watch" will soon be sleuthing around as he takes on the lead role in the adaptation of the 1970s drama series, according to Deadline.

"The Rockford Files" starred James Garner as Jim Rockford, a Los Angeles-based private investigator who applied his wits and charm to solving a different case each week. The series, aired from Sept. 10, 1974 through Jan. 10, 1980, was co-created by Roy Huggins, the producer of another hit Garner series, "Maverick."

"Rockford" will be Vaughn's second film based on a television show after his villainous turn in "Starsky & Hutch" (2004). While the search is on for a director, David Levien and Brian Koppelman ("Rounders," "Ocean's Thirteen") are signed on to pen the screenplay; the writing duo also recently became attached to "Runner Runner," the online gambling thriller starring Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake. »

They’ll Remake Anything: Vince Vaughn to Star in Big Screen Adaptation of ‘The Rockford Files’

17 April 2012 4:00 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Perhaps the news that Robert Downey Jr. would be taking on the role of Perry Mason in a big screen reboot should have clued us in, but the announcement that Vince Vaughn is taking a stab at his very own cinematic adaptation of a classic television series that continues to live on in syndication (and in your grandparents’ living room) is still a bit of a surprise. Are there really no original ideas left? Deadline Calabasas reports that Universal Pictures is currently developing a feature based on NBC’s 1974-80 series The Rockford Files that is shaped as a “star vehicle” for Vaughn, who will take on the role James Garner played in the original series. Screenwriters David Levien and Brian Koppelman will pen the feature, and there’s no word yet on possible directors. Koppelman and Levien are certainly having a great couple of days – their script Runner Runner got the green light from New Regency »

Vince Vaughn will star in a 'Rockford Files' movie

17 April 2012 3:49 PM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Universal Pictures is developing a big-screen remake of "The Rockford Files," with Vince Vaughn set to take the title role.

Vaughn will also be a producer on the project, which David Levien and Brian Koppelman ("Ocean's Thirteen," "Rounders") will write, Deadline reports. Vaughn would step into the role of small-time private eye Jim Rockford, memorably played by James Garner in the 1974-80 TV series.

Universal sibling NBC tried its own "Rockford Files" remake a couple years ago, with Dermot Mulroney starring and "House" creator David Shore writing the script. It never got past the pilot stage, though.

The movie version was just given the go-ahead, so it's not clear if it would be a straight remake set in the present, something that attempts to re-create the vibe of mid- to late-'70s Los Angeles or a "Brady Bunch"/"Three Stooges"-esque character-out-of-time hybrid. Inevitably, though, the project will be freighted »

Vince Vaughn to star in The Rockford Files adaption

17 April 2012 3:37 PM, PDT | www.themoviebit.com | See recent TheMovieBit news »

Film adaptions of old T.V. shows are nothing new, but they have been appearing with more regularity lately, with 21 Jump Street doing big business, Dark Shadows just around the corner, and The Lone Ranger and The Night Stalker  due in the next few years (looking back at the list all these have Johnny Depp involved in some capacity. I think I've stumbled upon some sort of conspiracy). Been added to the list is a big screen adaption of The Rockford Files, being groomed as a star vehicle for Vince Vaughn. The series aired from 1974-1980, and starred as James Garner as the fast talking Jim Rockford, an ex-con turned private eye who took on cases other private eyes deemed hopeless. There was previously an attempt to resurrect the series on T.V., with Dermot Mulroney in the lead role, but it didn't move forward after complaints that the pilot »
