Steven Soderbergh has been a prolific filmmaker, cranking out a movie every year or two (and sometimes twice a year) since Sex, Lies, and Videotape propelled him to fame in 1989. Always willing to venture into new genres, Soderbergh tried his hand at film noir with his fourth feature, The Underneath.
Released in 1995 and shot in Austin, The Underneath (also known as Underneath) is a remake of Criss Cross, a 1949 thriller based on Don Tracy's 1934 novel of the same title. The story is classic (some would say clichéd) noir, a grim tale of how addiction, lust, jealousy and greed can inspire evil acts, compelling desperate people to take desperate measures.
The film centers on gambling addict Michael Chambers (Peter Gallagher), who returns home to Austin for his mother's wedding. Michael had left town abruptly years earlier to escape his gambling debts, leaving his wife, Rachel (Alison Elliott), to deal with the mess her husband created. »

Ready to have your mind blown by two awesome things converging together into one amazing thing? We uncovered a clip of New Girl's Max Greenfield (aka Schmidt) playing a young Sandy Cohen on The O.C. in 2007. Watch him as he woos young Kirsten Cohen on the Uc Berkeley campus with a campaign pin. (True romance!) Not only do I see a shocking resemblance to Peter Gallagher, but I have to confess we wouldn't have been able to resist either. »

Chicago – USA continues to lead the way in terms of cable ratings. While FX and TNT have their loyal audiences and critics adore HBO and AMC, it’s really USA that can boast the most remarkable claims in terms of breakthrough ratings. Some of their biggest hits regularly clobber network competition. Two of them just hit DVD — “Suits: Season One” and “Covert Affairs: Season Two.” Fans will be happy with both but I have a clear favorite.
My initial review of “Suits” is proof positive that sending one episode of a TV series can make me look like an idiot. I stand by that review of the premiere. It was inert. It was generic. However, the show Quickly broke out of that pattern, finding interesting characters within the cliches and, most importantly, writing remarkably adult dialogue and legal action. “Suits” doesn’t treat its audience like idiots, never »

As we were psyching ourselves up for our Summer Movie Preview week and the movie season in general, we decided to ask the stars themselves what flicks they’re looking forward to. Some of them, as you can see in the video above, had their answers ready: The Dark Knight Rises, Prometheus and Rock of Ages were popular choices. Others, like Michelle Williams, gave us embarrassed looks as they admitted to not having a ready made movie calendar in their heads. Well, Michelle and the rest of the you can relax now. We’ve got a handy-dandy list here. And before, while and after you print it out, don’t forget to vote for your favorite Heroes, Heroines, Villains and Funny Ladies from this summer’s movies!

Released 20 years ago this week , "The Player" seemed at the time like one of the most merciless lampoons of Hollywood ever made, but director Robert Altman liked to insist that it was "a very mild satire." He meant that it could have been even meaner if he'd made it more realistic. Altman was working from Michael Tolkin's screenplay, adapted from Tolkin's own novel, but the observations it made about the movie industry's contempt for art and artists were clearly informed by Altman's own decades of frustration as a creative filmmaker with a singular, idiosyncratic vision who repeatedly clashed with executives interested only in profit. Judging by how many Hollywood A-listers he got to do free cameos in the movie -- about five dozen of them -- a lot of the industry's top talent must have felt as he did. So did critics and audiences, who helped make the movie »

The fourth instalment of the Step Up franchise promises revolution on the streets – but its moves look strangely familiar
Taken as a whole, the Step Up series has a clear, classical three-act structure. In Step Up (act one), a boy and girl fall in love. In Step Up 2 the Streets (act two), the boy falls in love with another girl against the backdrop of an illegal street dance tournament. And then comes the thrilling denouement in Step Up 3D (act three), where not much happens but there's quite a lot of product placement and you have to wear some silly glasses to watch it.
This summer sees the release of Step Up Revolution (Step Up 4: Miami Heat in the UK). And if you're worried that the franchise might be running low on ideas in its fourth iteration, don't be. As its newest trailer makes perfectly clear, the film isn't »

Forget flash mobs, public disturbances and performance art, “it’s time for protest art.” Welcome to the chest-baring, feet-stomping fourth iteration of the “Step Up” dance franchise, this time set in Miami Beach. Rather than dancing for street cred or competitions, these performers are dancing for their lives, literally.
The evil real estate developer, played by Peter Gallagher, wants to construct “the greatest hotel Miami has ever seen,” but at the cost of the handsome yet troubled dance-crew head, »

Yesterday, we revealed the poster for the upcoming Step Up Revolution (out July 27), and today we have the chest-baring, street-stomping trailer. As a news reporter speaks of a “disturbance” on Miami’s Ocean Drive, ominous figures in tricked-out, old-school cars prepare to unleash a synchronized attack… See the trailer below.
Never fear, it’s just a flash mob! In Revolution, The Mob’s leader Sean (Ryan Guzman) meets aspiring dancer Emily (So You Think You Can Dancer Kathryn McCormick, who dances pretty well “for a gringa”). He woos her with sick dance moves and public displays of coordination, but their »

Step Up Revolution literally takes the occupy movement and spins it on its head. The first trailer for Step Up Revolution, the fourth entry in the Step Up movie franchise, has appeared online, and this time they are using the latest dancing trend, flash mobs.
Admittedly, I have never watched a single minute of the Step Up franchise, but that movie is geared towards a targeted demographic, one of which I don’t fit in. So if you are into hip-hop music and you love to watch an hour and half of dancing, then Step Up Revolution is just the movie for you.
Watch the first trailer for Step Up Revolution:
Step Up Revolution stars Peter Gallagher, Kathryn McCormick, Ryan Guzman and Stephen Boss. The movie opens on July 27th.
ClevverTv debuted the trailer, and Imp Awards posted the poster.

“Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo”, I think you’ve just got served. It took them four movies, but I think this time the people behind the “Step Up” franchise might have just tread where no film has dared to tread — challenge the 1984 “Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo” for the ultimate bad movie. Check out the full-length trailer for Summit’s latest entry into the dancing series, “Step Up 4: Revolution”. In the film, the female lead actually implores her fellow street dancers to stop just dancing for the fun of it and start doing “protest dance”. I shit you not. If you didn’t gag on whatever you were chewing on, or at least did a cool movie spit-take when you heard that line, I don’t even wanna know you. Emily arrives in Miami with aspirations to become a professional dancer. She sparks with Sean, the leader of a dance crew »

What if "Dance Dance Revolution" actually caused a revolution?
That's the question posed by the brand new trailer for "Step Up Revolution," but instead of a Wii remote, stars Kathryn McCormick and Ryan Guzman are using the entire city of Miami as their own personal video game playground.
Who needs a controller when you have synchronized low riders?
The plot in a nutshell: Everybody dances so hard society itself changes. The End.
Okay, want more? Well, the new trailer reveals that "The O.C.'"s Peter Gallagher plays an a-hole businessman whose newest deal is threatening Miami's ethnic communities. Luckily for them, a bunch of dancers called The Mob decides to use their shimmy shimmy shake to mix up local politics and save the city through the redemptive power of bumping and grinding.

Directed by: Tarsem Singh
Cast: Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, Armie Hammer, Nathan Lane
Running Time: 1 hr 46 mins
Rating: PG
Release Date: March 30, 2012
Plot: The evil queen (Roberts) takes control of a kingdom and attempts to rid the land of the king’s daughter, Snow White (Collins). A prince (Hammer) and seven dwarfs are Snow’s only hope against the queen’s magic.
Who’S It For? It’s a weird combination between teenage girls and moms. I think that is the core audience. It’s a fairy tale comedy with some action.
Expectations: I couldn’t keep straight who was in this version of “Snow White” and who is starring in Snow White and the Huntsman. Once I heard this was rated PG, I realized this might not be as “adult” of an adaptation as I thought.
Scorecard (0-10)

"Enough with performance art. It's time for protest art." These are the immortal words that inspire a revolution — of dance, on Miami Beach, in opposition of a giant real-estate development backed by none other than evil Peter Gallagher. Occupy Step Up: The movement is real! (So real it got 20,000 hits in under five hours. What's up now, Social Network?) And thankfully, it includes all the hallmarks that make its parent franchise great: a naive, surprisingly coordinated new girl (in this case Kathryn McCormick, fresh from So You Think You Can Dance season six), a handsome but troubled dance-crew leader (newcomer Ryan Guzman), overcrowded parties, skimpy clothing, backflips, side-by-side car-hood choreography, belly-dancing museum sculptures, intimidating crew names, an Adjustment Bureau flash-mob, and, of course, Moose. All this, and a noble cause, too. Be the dance you want to see in the world! Do you hear the people dance? Already, »

Summit has discovered the ultimate weapon to combat Peter Gallagher and his massive eyebrows: the power of dance! The official trailer for Step Up Revolution, the fourth film in the Step Up franchise, hit the internet tonight and since I’m the one with the most questionable movie taste on The Film Stage, I obviously got really excited about it. Thanks to the newly launched ScreenCrush for the heads up and you can see it below with my detailed analysis following.
Ever since an ex-girlfriend introduced me to the wonder and insanity of Step Up 2 The Streets many years ago, I’ve been on board with the franchise. Like I’m sure is the case with other fans, it’s not really the plot that brings me in; it’s seeing people far more talented than me bend, flip, and dance in ways that I couldn’t do even if »

Last year it seemed that Hollywood was taking a short break from adaptations of toys, video games, comic books, and TV shows when two films were announced that would be live-action versions of classic fairy tales. Well, actually both would be based the same tale ” Snow White and the Seven Dwarves ” by the Brothers Grimm. The entertainment news magazines, blogs, and TV programs were all a flutter. Remember the dueling big asteroid and volcano movies from a decade ago! Would the movie-going public be interested in two versions of that raven-haired heroine? And more importantly, who would make it to the multiplex first? Slowly photos and trailers hit the internet and it became clear that the films were quite different in tone. The darker, action-heavy Snow White And The Huntsman would fit better, perhaps, amid the big, blockbuster thrill-rides of the Summer. Spring was deemed a better time for a more lighter, »

I gotta admit, as stupid as the Step Up movies always are, they still draw me in even if I've only really enjoyed Step Up 2 the Streets, primarily for the dancing, but what are you looking for? Story? Ha! The story for Step Up Revolution would appear to be that it centers on a group that sets up a bunch of flash mobs and their new target is Peter Gallagher whose goal is to trash a bunch of houses and businesses for a big ol' Miami hotel. What the what? Wurd? So what does that mean? You ready for this!?!?!?!? "Enough with performance art! It's time for protest art!" Oh man, you know it's off the chains and gettin' the biz when you bust out promises like that! We are not 4 sale! And you best get that straight! The first trailer and poster for Step Up Revolution have gone online. For the fourth entry in the Step Up franchise, the series is taking on flash mobs because of course they are. I’ll admit I’ve never seen any of the Step Up films, but they appear to be made for a very specific audience. If you like watching people dance to music for an hour and a half, then you’re probably a fan of the series. If not, I highly doubt Step Up Revolution is going to change your mind. Hit the jump to check out the dance-filled trailer and poster. The film stars Peter Gallagher, Kathryn McCormick, Ryan Guzman and Stephen Boss. Step Up Revolution opens on July 27th. There are few cinematic genres that can deliver as much minute-for-minute audience joy as a well-executed dance film. Summit Entertainment’s Step Up franchise has consistently delivered productions that are, at the very least, wildly entertaining. Though 2010′s Step Up 3D struck me as a misfire (let’s be honest here – Rick Malambri may be easy on the eyes, but the boy can’t dance off-camera fast enough), its predecessors were fun, frisky endeavors that sold the dancing, even when their stories were a little weak. I might not be phrasing this correctly. I love Step Up. Unabashedly. It’s my exact brand of popcorn movie; some people like Transformers, I like Step Up. I’m smiling from ear to ear just thinking about this first trailer for the franchise’s fourth film, Step Up Revolution. Plainly – if you like Step Up, you’re going to like this. I will likely love it. Though »

After the eye-popping flashstravaganza of Step Up 3D, the latest installment of the dance franchise has a high bar to reach. (And that’s without mentioning that the first Step Up launched the career of a reasonably attractive and somewhat funny actor named Channing Tatum — you may have heard of him.) From the looks of a dynamic, fourth-wall-breaking new poster exclusive to EW, Step Up Revolution is well on its way.
