Fox’s media blowout for all things Independence Day: Resurgence continues today, with a host of new images arriving via Empire.

Nipping at the heels of today’s epic, five-minute trailer – which essentially presented a roadmap of the sequel’s plot and all of its sci-fi glory – these new stills place a laser focus on the reinvigorated alien threat, who descend on Earth a full two decades after the War of ’96 to enact their revenge.

Indeed, it’s an ancient alien ship that acts as the catalyst to Roland Emmerich’s barnstorming showdown, beaming a distress signal into the far reaches of space and essentially rallying the extra-terrestrial reinforcements. If you’re wanting to get a fairly sizeable taste of the CG-laden carnage that awaits, that aforementioned extended trailer offers up all the story details you’ll need before the sequel graces theaters in little over a month’s time. »

Five-Minute Independence Day: Resurgence Trailer Remembers The War Of 1996

17 hours ago | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Twenty years after prying our way from the clutches of extinction, humanity is thrust into grave danger once more in Independence Day: Resurgence, with today’s barnstorming five-minute trailer – five minutes! – outlining much of the plot underpinning Roland Emmerich’s long-awaited sequel.

The elevator pitch? Commemorating two decades since the War of 1996, and after advancing military tech in the form of the unified Earth Space Defense program, the world’s leading powers stand defiant against any alien threat. But for all of their bravado, complacency creeps through the bleeding-edge defenses when Jeff Goldblum’s David Levinson stumbles upon an alien ship – one that just so happens to be transmitting a distress signal to the stars.

What follows is a deluge of cinematic destruction that hews closely to Emmerich’s M.O. in that the world’s monuments are literally torn asunder and, in the spirit of the ’96 original, the fate »

Independence Day: Resurgence Slithers Onto Latest Empire Cover

20 May 2016 8:37 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Picking up the torch from Paul Feig and his band of Ghostbusters, it is Roland Emmerich’s long-in-development sequel Independence Day: Resurgence that adorns the latest issue of Empire Magazine.

Welcoming the return of Jeff Goldblum’s David Levinson, who now presides over the newfound Earth Space Defense force by the time Resurgence rolls around, the one-sheet also features one of the invading aliens ensnaring Goldblum’s lead with those iconic tentacles. Could the image be teeing up a scene involving Goldblum, the locust-like extra-terrestrial and some good old-fashioned telepathy? We’ll find out soon enough.

That’s because Independence Day: Resurgence is set to loom over Earth’s atmosphere in little over a month’s time, thrusting humanity into another battle against extinction. Even armed with alien tech leftover from the War of 1996, the Esd are facing a tall order to overcome the alien Resurgence – lest they go quietly »

Independence Day: Resurgence TV Spot And Featurettes Spotlight Alien Tech

19 May 2016 11:57 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Roland Emmerich’s newfound United Global Defense Unit flaunts its alien arsenal in today’s new TV spot and featurettes for Independence Day: Resurgence.

Set to loom over theaters in little over a month’s time, the director’s long-in-development sequel has spent much of its marketing campaign paying respect to the War of 1996, and particularly those brave men and women who took the fight to the invading menace.

One pilot that’s naturally been thrust into the center of attention is Will Smith’s fallen Steven Hiller, who died in the intervening years between ’96 and the imminent alien Resurgence while testing alien weaponry. That’s something that’s also highlighted in the featurettes below, including the slick Space Tug to be piloted by franchise newcomer, Liam Hemsworth.

Roland Emmerich on Will Smith’s absence from Independence Day: Resurgence

15 May 2016 8:10 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Despite the fact that Independence Day: Resurgence is bringing back several cast members from the original movie, there is one name absent from the roster of the 1996 blockbuster, with Will Smith opting against a return to the franchise. Speaking to Comic Book, director Roland Emmerich has revealed that Smith was originally set to return, but decided against it following his experience on After Earth and Men in Black 3.

“In the very beginning, [Will Smith] was on board,” states Emmerich. “He was actually very excited to do it but it got a little bit unlucky there. Even I needed kind of like two years to get through two scripts. We wanted to make two scripts because when we have Will we want to have two right away. We sent him the scripts just when he was doing After Earth and wanted to create his own trilogy and had just done Men in Black 3 »

Paris-based sales company takes on provocative film.

Paris-based Other Angle Pictures has taken on international sales of Yvan Attal’s provocative tragicomic portmanteau film #TheJews exploring antisemitism and the clichés surrounding the Jewish race.

The film – produced by Oscar-winning producer Thomas Langmann (The Artist) - was born out of Israeli-French actor and director Attal’s personal sense of persecution and a growing antisemitism amid reactions from his friends and family that he was over-reacting.

“Yvan tackles several clichés surrounding the Jews from ‘They’re everywhere’, to ‘They killed Jesus Christ’ in a series of sketches – each of them tragi-comic in tone,” explains Other Angle chief Olivier Albou.

Attal has pulled together an ensemble cast including wife Charlotte Gainsbourg as well as Dany Boon, Benoit Poelvoorde, François Damiens, Gilles Lelouche, Gregory Gadebois, Denys Podalydes and Valerie Bonneton.
