Kevin Smith is pitching Mallrats TV series to Universal Television today

10 October 2016 8:50 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It started out as a movie, but the sequel to Kevin Smith’s 1995 comedy flop (at least in box office terms) Mallrats is now being pitched as a TV show with all of the original cast in place – minus Ben Affleck. Smith has been very public about his plans for the series and has talked about it appearing on sites like Amazon Prime and Netflix, and he announced today he’s off to meet with Universal TV:

Today I start pitching the #Mallrats series with the folks at @UniversalTV. I've got butterflies in my giant stomach. Hope someone wants us.

Precious Cargo review – Bruce Willis phones it in for crass caper

14 July 2016 1:45 PM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Big bangs and a speedboat chase do nothing to rescue this unexciting, unfunny action thriller

A straight-to-video nightmare is all that’s on offer here. Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Bruce Willis star in a cheap-and-cheerless action thriller that contrives to be unexciting, unfunny and crass. Gosselaar is Jack, a supercool tough guy and heist specialist with a heart of gold, in love with a veterinarian he’s cutely trying to impress by showing up at her clinic with a dog borrowed from one of his fellow criminals. Jack is lured into stealing diamonds by his ex, played by the haughty and leonine Claire Forlani, who in turn wishes ill on a certain Mr Big, in which role Bruce Willis smirkingly phones in his standard-issue performance. The production budget has been spent on a series of big, loud and very, very boring explosions, and there is a mind-blowingly uninteresting speedboat chase scene »

Movie Review – Precious Cargo (2016)

Precious Cargo, 2016.

Directed by Max Adams.

Starring Bruce Willis, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Claire Forlani, Jenna B. Kelly and Daniel Bernhardt.

Synopsis:

Skilled thief Jack, on the verge of leaving his criminal world behind, is drawn by pregnant ex-lover Karen into a battle against vicious crime boss Eddie, who wants her dead…

If there was one question ringing through my mind by the end of Precious Cargo, it was this: when is Bruce Willis going to fire his agent? That’s perhaps a tad harsh on Max Adams’ debut feature as both writer and director, as it’s not quite as bad as some of the dross Brucey has lowered himself to over the last few years, but equally this action movie isn’t nearly as thrilling, exciting or knockabout as it professes to be. For a start, while it trades off Willis’ mega star wattage, Adams’ film probably only has about »

Precious Cargo review

Ed Williamson Published Date  Friday, July 15, 2016 - 05:47

It’s fair to say Bruce Willis has taken his foot off the gas a bit in recent years. Who can blame him? Stars fade, and now everyone’s a 24/7 commentator it’s hard to keep working into advanced age, when the scripts landing on the mat require you to acknowledge the limitations of your age and play up to them, and even dip into the straight-to-digital-download market, without some accusing you of trashing your legacy.

People feel this sense of regret more keenly with Robert De Niro, who had further to fall after he stopped trying in 2002, but he at least continues to play the first or second lead, putting his name to the project and living or dying by it. Willis increasingly takes on roles that seem to require little time investment, and mails it in contentedly.

Precious Cargo review: “A brave but uneventful romp…”

Precious Cargo review: Zack Morris and John McClane together at last in this direct-to-dvd film that has snuck into cinemas. Precious Cargo review

Bruce Willis! How do you feel about that name? It’s one that has changed its meaning and sound throughout the years. From sitcom star to unexpected action hero, to taking on challenging prestige roles in the late 90s, Willis hasn’t exactly become stale. Recently however he has given his name to small budget action films, showed up, read his lines, and seen them go straight to DVD or streaming. This isn’t surprising however as the movie star as we know it is pretty much dead. Willis still impresses when he gets into original and challenging material such as Moonrise Kingdom, or Looper, but why not earn a buck on the side?

Precious Cargo isn’t exactly the dream outing anybody was waiting for. Mark-Paul Gosselaar, »

Kevin Smith is turning his “Mallrats” sequel into a television series

13 June 2016 7:34 AM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

Go figure, just a few days after I wrote last week about Kevin Smith’s next film Yoga Hosers, some news pops up about another project of his. This one is his sequel to Mallrats, which he is going forward with, just in a new form. As you’ll see below, he’s opted to take the sequel and make it as a series on television, instead of as a film, due to some previously unforeseen circumstances. This is a lemonade out of lemons situation, as well as perhaps a hint as to where Smith could see his career begin to focus in the years to come. Either way, it’s something new and exciting in his evolution as a storyteller. The behind the scenes story here is that initially Mallrats 2 or Mallbrats was going to be a movie, but when Smith submitted his script to Universal, he found out it wouldn’t be quite so simple, as they wouldn’t just release the property to him. However, considering how popular his episode of The Flash was on CW, as well as the upcoming television series take on Buckaroo Banzai that he’s launching (and recently sold), Smith quickly pivoted. Now, we’re getting Mallrats: The Series, a TV show which could really be something fun. It’s everything we want from Smith going back to the mall, just spread out over a season of TV instead of in one movie. Count me in. Here’s what I wrote last year when the sequel was announced as a film: “The initial reason that Smith decided to make Mallrats 2 into a film was to honor his friend and Mallrats producer Jim Jacks, who passed away back in 2014. As a way of honoring Jacks, a man who had once upon a time championed a potential sequel, Smith then decided to make it a reality. As much as this could be just another one of those interesting announcements that go nowhere, that hasn’t been the case. Over the weeks and months, Smith would go on social media slowly teasing all of the former cast members who are coming back to the mall, as it were. That’s pretty impressive, regardless of the cast. For those who don’t remember, Mallrats starred Jeremy London, Jason Lee, Shannen Doherty, Claire Forlani, Ethan Suplee, Michael Rooker, Renee Humphrey, Joey Lauren Adams, Jason Mewes, Ben Affleck, as well as Stan Lee in a cameo and of course Smith himself [...] »

Bruce Willis Hunts Down Precious Cargo In First Trailer For Heist Drama

25 February 2016 1:47 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

From The Prince to Rock the Kasbah and (almost) everything in between, the past few years haven’t been kind to Bruce Willis’ track record, and today’s debut trailer for by-the-numbers heist drama Precious Cargo isn’t the reverse of fortune we secretly hoped it would be.

Headlining Max Adams’ actioner as Eddie, a merciless crime boss with a chip on his shoulder, Willis switches gears to play the big bad in Precious Cargo, luring Mark-Paul Gosselaar of Saved By the Bell fame into a daring escapade in order to secure a bounty of priceless gems.

Part hostage drama, part heist thriller, and all very familiar, Precious Cargo simply screams straight-to-dvd, and without Bruce Willis’ name on the masthead we find it difficult to imagine Adams’ generic feature would secure a theatrical release.

Nevertheless, it’s on course for mid-April, and the official synopsis is as follows:

He plays a crime boss who hires a thief but then double crosses him and then gets tangled up in a big showdown. The full cast includes Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Claire Forlani, John Brotherton, Lydia Hull, Daniel Bernhardt, Ashley Kirk and Nick Loeb. I hope this is actually as fun as the trailer makes it look.
